Watch carefully and take advantage of the stupid manoeuvres of your attacker. Don't waste your time and energy. The ideal fight is the shortest one.

Thing is that human brains cant react to the fastest punch that is possible to throw. Like Bruce lees " world fastest punch" it cant be avoided or blocked. The punch has allready reached the other person before he sees it coming. This is even more true if you have mastered non telegraphig punching technique. Then you dont even have to be so fast.

In the world of martial arts,aikido is one of the most deadliest defensive and opensive.
And a good boxer would knock their teeth out in 2 seconds, All this hoo haa martial arts crap uses outdated ancient tactics and it is portrayed as a deadly defence in close combat. A boxer used modern tactics and are twice as fast with their reflexes and responses to the opponents movements. I know an immense amount of people believe in martial arts and practice it as a sport, and good luck to them . But a boxer will sit them on their butt quick smart.
Seagal is slower that Van Damme. Seagal is a defensive fighter where Van Damme is an aggressive fighter and has many more moves than Seagal. I am more impressed with Van Damme.
Who knows, but Sensei Segal has some really violent moves. Still Movies are by nature

But from my studies, Aikido has a philosophy of of using absolute minimal force. That would mean, if Steven is legit, his aim would be non-violence through superior expertise. As most of the martial arts world and public does not understand the unusual moves, the Aikido practitioner may have a certain amount of an unexpected advantage over others. As a non Japanese, studying in Japan 🇯🇵 I can only imagine Steven was not coddled by his teacher.
Still I understand that in a demonstration, it is not a good idea to criticize the teacher or try to make him look bad. Questions are good but students have their place. This means any demonstration is less impressive when using his students.
I’m sure Van dam could most certainly destroy me as a martial arts practitioner in a violent encounter. But his game is not my game. We have nothing to prove to each other, through the search for truth, we probably would just have a good conversation. I’d rather listen to the two of these guys sit down and speak in conversation, using the Socratic method than watch them take each other on in the
At Sixty, as a female I well know my own limitations. However I’m not quite all helpless. As a slight of hand magician, I have combined Martial Arts with that thing called distraction. Redirecting the opponents attention so they never even see me move. If I can induce eye contact, peripheral vision is lost. The fight is already over.
Like as with our most respected hand combat fighters throughout history. A physical encounter should only last a few moments in time. The opponent should be made to have no idea the opponent has any ability at all.
But again if I remember correctly, Aikido is not about winning trophies. It is strictly about only using minimal force as is necessary. We are comparing what cannot be compared. Therefore the two fighters we discuss should not be trying to accomplish the same outcome. Reading the biography of Aikido’s founder, I must come to the conclusion that Steven turned down a ring match because that is not his goal or his Motivation.
I would like to point out also there is no such thing as a true World Champion. There will always be someone better because all methods overlap each other in their effectiveness. And there we enter into the world of
No style, meaning, what ever works, works whether pretty or not…….
In My opinion I believe it's best to know serval different types of martial arts it don't matter what degree You are in takawando if You can't box a 7 or 8 degree black belt can be in trouble. If I was training someone to fight in a cage match I would have them get several degrees in each style of martial arts jujitsu I would have them degree out, takawando I would have them degree out kiddo have them degree out. And train them to boxe fluently if I was training a cage mma fighter so they can handle business in either world. That's just My opinion. I believe you should no mix martial arts for self defense.
