Building a Simple Cozy Off Grid Winter Log Cabin (anyone can do this) - ASMR (Start-to-Finish)

  • I build a super simple cabin on a very tight budget of just $7 using reclaimed materials and a few fasteners, bolts, threaded rod and a bit of hard work.
The small cabin is build from an a-frame template. It is very similar to a tent, but with solid back and front walls, with the tarp overlapping the frame. The tarp is also reused from bubble buildings such as soccer pitches and baseball diamonds. I really only spent money on the fasteners. A couple threaded rods, bolts, and some nails. I also use quite a few screws to hold down the floor which was reclaimed from palette wood, or skids.
I do not cut any live trees for this project, and am building in a replanted forest that was improperly managed for decades. My goal is to thin out the canopy of dead trees first, then cut out every other row to allow the forest to flourish and increase the tree diversity. Currently, all the trees in this forest are pines, and they don't allow any sunlight to reach the forest floor making it not very hospitable for forest critters.
Join us as we show you how to build a tiny cabin in the woods for a super low cost. All this can be done with a drill and screws, or a hammer and nails, a handsaw, circular saw, or chainsaw. We will also build a table, chair, and full bed!
The cabin sleeps 1 comfortably, but it's possible to get one more. If no stove is necessary, it's super easy to get one more person inside the tent, but there needs to be enough space behind the stove so the plastic doesn't melt.
If you decide to build this shelter, be sure to keep safety in mind and use a smoke detector.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

I always hear how forrests are maintained by cutting down some of the planted trees. We have saved grounds to be repurposed as landfills 20 years ago. By planting trees row by row. I don’t know yet what kind of trees they are. But I would love your support if we ever come to know and start a campaign to let the youth learn how to build cabins and survival shelters in these ones. Is there a theory behind the madness something that js researched?

@@ModernSelfReliance thanks Kevin - I binge watched ur vids yesterday so I noticed you explaining that in the other vid. I made a primitive double wattle and daub hut using local hay (scythe cut) and willow logs - gable roof (or whatever it's called) - I took some photos. It was designed on an 1800 BCE archaeological dig from Germany. Turns out the insulation value was not matched again till 1990s insulation standards!! Only my walls don't really attach and one's leaning - so... hahahahah. It's 10 x 12 and so no permit. I got composting toilets - my 2nd one is on the way - from "Toilets for People" - an engineer who works in "Developing" countries also on toilets.
I'm fascinated, like yourself, by the housing crisis and permits, etc. for micro-units (I didn't even know that term till a couple days ago!). I used to live in SROs in Twin Cities, Minnesota - they are very hard to find these days. Single Room Occupancy. Technically a "rooming unit" instead of a "dwelling unit" and so a campsite is a "camping unit" as a "dwelling site" instead of a permanent dwelling unit. Of course it is illegal for people to live off their own land now - as native indigenous peoples did, our ancestors, for 225,000 years. hahahahaha.
So... to own a vehicle you need a "permanent address" with "facilities" as per the International Building Code and without a vehicle it's difficult to have a job, etc. Of course vehicles are destroying life on Earth via Co2 emissions being 100 times greater than the background rate of 12 gigatons per 200 years. Hilarious that all these high tech builders are not keen on our situation of imminent "biological annihilation" as googlescholar calls it.
Well thanks for your response. First structure I threw up was a tipi and it's still standing after 7 years - last I checked - we had a tornado nearby recently with flooding so who knows? But I didn't "strip off the bark" - kind of doubt traditional tipis have the bark stripped off. It's willow so if anything I would want it to grow back? hahahah. I call it the "insane clown" tipi named after Drumpf of course. Yeah I have just enough room to stand up and lie down in the hypotenuse of the clay base - I put in clay mud walls with straw bales for insulation - and a French drain tube just outside the runoff to prevent flooding. The squirrels lived there until the Lynx ate the squirrel family - now just one squirrel survives. The pine marten got eaten also. The lynx got scared away from the neighbor to the south being a real carpenter building his property for permanent dwelling unit. hahahaha.
      thanks

I was hoping that you wouldn't go down the same road as Chris doing the asmr videos as that had me not watching anymore as I love your way of interacting with the viewer and humor ect please don't make this a weekly thing but it's your channel I respect that and it would take moor than a few video's that I wasn't keen to watch to stop watching your stuff as it's to good and ingageing thanks
