- "Way Down" is a song recorded by Elvis Presley. Recorded in October 1976, it was the last single released before his death on August 16, 1977. The song was written by Layng Martine, Jr. and was later covered by Status Quo and Cliffhanger. Released as a single (with "Pledging My Love" on the B-side) on June 6, 1977, it was his current single when he died. It was racing up the top 40 when news of his death broke. Shortly after his death, it became the 33rd Number 1 of his career. It reached #1 on both the American Country and British Pop charts just days after his death, and almost six years after his previous Number 1 single. It was reissued in April 2005 and reached #2 on the UK singles chart.

Elvis loved showing off his friend , J.D. Sumner , His Bass singer and life long friend . NO ONE knew Elvis Presley then a hand full of singers called '' The Blackwood Brothers Quartet ''. Gladys Love Presley took Elvis to great concerts at the Ellis Auditorium , Just a few blocks from their home .That's were he met J.D. Sumner , James Blackwood , Jake Hess , Hovie Lister , Jim '' Big Chief '' Wetherington and others in Gospel Music . '' Thats were it all started ''
and then years later, JD Sumner, along with The Stamps, became his backup singers 🎶, after the Jordanaires ... you are so right, Elvis and JD were life long friends ... 💜⚡💜
His last song love it....................
Posthumous UK No.1 as well. I loved this song. Just a shame he would never sing it 'Live' again. R.I.P. Elvis. One of a kind you were.
People didn't appreciate this in '77... They didn't deserve it...
We did appreciate...it charted !!!
JD Sumner and that awesome booming voice of his is what really gets way on down.
Me being only 12 my mum love him and has his album he is know my favourite singer he may not be with us now but he is in our hearts
RIP THE KING OF ROCK AND ROLL

What a soul.....gone too soon
This was released around the time of his death which was just prior to my daughter Leslie's birth. It was played over & over on radio when I was in hospital
It was such a comfort to me!❤💖❤
Heard this song for the 1st time today on Radio station ‘Gold’ …….wow this song is amazing. Can’t stop playing it.
BEAUTIFUL ELVIS 💋 🎶 🎲 🎰

His last ever hit on this earth, the best ever since my way
Too bad Elvis never got to sing this song live it would have sounded awesome live
Pure rhythm and blues is what defines true rock n roll and this song has got it with aces! The Tupelo kid still showing everybody how its done now then and forever. Rock on Elvis.
Agreed 👍😊
ELVIS wahr und ist es heute noch der beste Sànger der Welt,es ist ein wahnsin wie er sich in die Songs hineinsteigert.
Even in his 40s, Elvis had the best voice ever.
His voice was getting stronger the opera like voice he had live in 1977 was incredible
He was 43 I believe when he passed away.

Absolutely true the greatest singer still.👍
@@robertcarter8600 It's a shame Elvis was a pill popper. Taking every sort of pill 💊 under the sun certainly helped shorten his life. 😢😢😢😢😢😢
Love this song. So wished elvis had not died and carried on today with loads of fab songs. I listen to this whist ironing. Gets me dancing everytime xx😅
From his final album...Moody Blue..😥😥😥🌹✨❤️❤️❤️🙏✝️💌. Elvis Presley forever in my heart 💘💘💘. ....
BEAUTIFULL ELVIS AARON
The last 45rpm released while alive - I was in Army at Ft Campbell - saw Dick Clark play it as a tribute on American Bandstand -appropriate his last song was a rocker !,
This is a cool song.
God sent this angel down to earth to keep man happy..but man took the life out of him. God bless Elvis.
All I can say about this song, is That's All Right. Young Elvis was so much better.
My absolute most favourite Elvis song!.. just has to be played LOUDLY!!!!..
Me 2
That look was his best look as well! js
Listen to the remix,, brilliant 👍
It sure is a belter... It highlights his rich voice.
@@lordtwo-a-penny3364 Yes it does! & It shows off J.D.s mega low bass!, 👍✌️
The first single I bought as a kid.
King with this great voice even at the end
he was a fantastic singer sad thing was this song way down was sadly his last.i love this song and own it.
Elvis was ready for the eighties already in 76 you hear the sound of the eighties through this song but God took him away
Elvis Presley grande
Got to admit .. he was the best...
Geez I forgot all about this song, my old radio days in the seventies. One day I remember the DJ saying Elvis showed up at some beach heavily armoured with body guards and only one fan turned up. Made me sad to the bone.
he ended the way he started......with a good ol' rock 'n roll tune!
The King lives on!
the best singer all time
Zelimir Panic yep
The late great J.D. Sumner singing bass, double low C at the end, & that's not his lowest, lowest is an E0! Just unreal!👍✌
Sure wish Elvis was here with us . I mean physically. True his music will be around. I bet Elvis would be still cranking out music even in his 80s . I guess will never know. Long live King Elvis.
Only one King and even now Elvis is the King
The king 🤴 last ever song long live the king
I remember this song languishing at the bottom end of the charts both in the UK and US on 14th August 1977 and shot to No 1 on 17th August 1977 after the news broke out. Even before he died I thought it should have been in the top 10
Great song elvis beautiful man love 💕
One of his most underrated songs
Marjorie37 O. Cool!
.....and his last
Absolutely! This is a masterpiece. Also enjoyed a lot the profound bass: J.D. Sumner.
Not with me,.....love way down like a tidal wave

It's a shame Elvis wouldn't live to see "Way Down" hit #1, as it did so four days after his death. It should've charted higher than #18 on the pop chart. It reached #18 for 2 weeks on September 24th, 1977, five weeks after Elvis's death.
R.I.P. to the King of Rock & Roll.
ChihuahuaboyDH
He had health problems, diabetes, glaucoma, uppers to stay up all night and sleeping pills to sleep all day. He had the Memphis Mafia all around watching the chaos, yet nobody was able to love him enough to bring him back to his best self. =/
Awesome amazing beautiful people amazing beautiful places
I still remember my mum opening my curtains in the morning to get me up for school and telling me that Elvis had died. 'Who's Elvis?' I asked...
Older & a little wiser now, he was & still is the King of rock 'n' roll. RIP.
I had this on a 45 and wore it out on my little record player and this was after his death. His voice sounded different but still great. The world will never be the same without him.
Never lost his amazing gift 😎😎
How have you been doing the last 8 yrs.
His voice got better and better
Brilliant song ❤️❤️😍😍😍love it, love Elvis 😍😍
The legendary JD Sumner providing the bass vocals. Nobody could top him when it came to hitting the low notes.
I was only a kid, but I will NEVER forget this song, I also will never forget that last note...........still gives me goosepimples.....................x

SUPER video - ELVIS je a zůstane LEGENDA !!!
I only heard this song yesterday for the first time ever. I’m lovin it 💖
Awesome song. The Kings last single. It was #1 the day he died 8-16-1977.
He NEVER left the building, he simply retired! :) TCB
That C1 from J. D. Sumner will never not get me
Probably Elvis’ best song.
Big call.
There's just something in this voice that moooves your soul. If this song never made #1, I'll never know why-it's beyond me. I don't think it did. How In The World Did This Not Ever Make a #1 hit for him? Can anyone answer that? He should have had 25-30 more #1 hits. RIAA found away to change their own rules over the years & even ripped away 12 of his original #1's, go figure?
40 years ago Elvis passed away. "Way Down" was climbing the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It was the last hit single for Elvis while still alive. After that were two posthumous hits, "My Way" (late '77) and the remix of "Guitar Man" ('81). He will always be remembered as the King of Rock and Roll. And I will always devote an entire day to viewing videos of Elvis 45s on both January 8 (his date of birth) and August 16 (the day he passed away).
What a powerhouse of a voice this man had, even in his last days this man was the ultimate entertainer.
God Bless his immortal soul!
One of my favourites ❤

What Can 1 Say Perfection
I remember buying this single not long before we lost the king. … will always have a special place in my heart, and I just can't understand why this record doesn't get its due? … it's a great song sung brilliantly!
I was nine years old when i heard on the news in Holland that the King died, stil remember like it was yesterday.

Sinto Presley
I was 12. Cried for months and months....
Music icon.
Heard this song on the television last night only l listening to elvis wouldn't have known it elvis was singing it he 😃❤💋❤
A fantastic final single from the King. It had all the great touches of an epic song of the 50's with the great backing vocals and epic rock and roll feel. Recorded at Graceland with the failing health of Elvis, it was the greatest song from those precious tapes of those epic performances.
I remember when this wast releaased, in the disco 70,s going way down on our dance moves couldn’t do that now for sure, what an amazing choir you must have lord, the stars ✨ all around , one day I ,will, I hope hear it for myself, beautiful, man, soul, son, friend ,human so caring I love you , always and forever Elvis xx
We miss you Elvis! You left too soon!
All up it is probably the best Bass Line I've ever heard. It introduces the song. It gives the feel for the song,it gives a groove & a catch line. Elvis would of just of had to read the lyrics. GOD BLESS ELVIS
Elvis's music will never die.
SURE WONT
Lo

The King rocked till the end ! ... IMO one of the best songs he sang ! ...
Love this song and Elvis looks Great 💖
The king forever
Even though this man had ailments he still put a lot of effort into his songs. This smashing song Way Down was one of his last hits from the
Legendary Mr Elvis Presley. He surely left this life too early.
Thank you for music Elvis and Utmost.
Jane from the UK
There was something about Elvis Presley that made him phenomenal, til this day, I still can't put my finger or anyone else's finger on it.
If you ask me Elvis left us way to soon, & we missed him dearly.
It was his last hit, went to #1 just after he died, & J.D. Sumner hit the amazing double low C at the end!👍✌
It was his last hit in his lifetime number one in Great Britain
ELVIS was blessed by GOD with endless
talent's. He was a Angel, sent from heaven,
January 8 1935. He stayed for 42 years,
