CTA 'L' - 7000 Series Cars Testing on the Blue Line + 2600s & 3200s at Racine and Logan Square

- The next generation of CTA 'L' cars are seen here testing on the Blue Line. Every new rail car series has to go through a variety of tests to ensure they are safe for passenger service. This includes making sure the rail cars can handle the stress on being on a heavy and long line, like the Blue Line. It's also the best place to stress test the train because of the worsening track conditions on the Blue Line's Congress branch, which is from UIC-Halsted to Forest Park.
CTA's 7000 Series cars, being built by CRRC Sifang America, will replace CTA's 2600 Series cars which were built between 1981-87 and are currently the oldest in the fleet. The base order for the cars is 400 cars. If all options are picked up for 846 railcars, the 7000 Series will also replace 3200 Series cars, built 1992-94 by Morrison-Knudsen. The cars are expected to run on the Blue, Brown, and Orange Lines.

Nice Catch! She looks good on the Blue Line.
Thank you! I appreciate it. Love your videos 🙏
@@ChicagolandTransit Thanks Bro. I'm due to upload some CTA Vids real soon I'm just backed up on so many old but recent vids.
What camera do you use? I'm always impressed by how far you're able to zoom in your videos
@@ChicagolandTransit I have a question. Isn't the new 7000 series made by the Chinese railway company named CRRC??
@@Azarable yep
I can't wait see them in person
Nice looking traincars, hope they'll be on the redline too.
Red line already got their new cars! Its time for the Blue line to have Its new cars now!
@@RTD8481 The Blue Line has newer cars only during rush periods. If anything the CTA will just give the new cars to the Red Line, and pass the older cars down to the Blue and Orange lines.
Something about the angles and lines on the blue fronts is very reminiscent of the Japanese suburban rolling stock, to me.
I noticed this too. I'm glad they made some updates to make it look more modern.
Love the new trains. Looks very fancy i can’t wait to see and ride one soon i be anxiously awaiting!
Immediately thought of the 2000-Series cars when I saw these!!
5:02
Damn, those tracks need some serious realigning. Look how much the train wobbles. Like the train as well tho.
Hopefully one day around late 2021 or early 2022 I come to Chicago when the borders open in Australia so I can get on the 2600 series before they retire but hopefully the 3200 series stay for the next 10 years or more.
OMG!!! THX FOR SHARING MY DUDE!!!
Excited to ride the new ones, whenever they come out. I cannot even hear myself think on the old 2600s on the blue line.
Literally same can’t wait to be able to think on the blue line 😂
The blue on that 7000 series is amazing . I wonder if they will retire the 2400 series when the 7000 series is put into service
2400 series is retired! The 2600+3200 will be retired
@@MythicalTransit typed the wrong one 😂 I meant 32
@@locoooo8338 lol
@@MythicalTransit 3200's might be retired. Not a for sure yes.
@@HydroDX I believe they are since they came out during the midway grand opening
Nice 7000s with LED lights.
I have a friend who works at the CTA, and he’s helping test the 7000s. He said the cars should be rolling out by spring.
The front looks so cool!
Well! Those 7000s look pretty dang good... Is this specifically for the Blue Line or are they going to other lines.. Orange, Green, that Yellow Skokie ...?
All the trains will have blue fronts, no matter what line they’re running on. But they’ll run on the blue, orange, and brown lines at first, and other lines with the 3200s later if they purchase enough cars.
@@OliversElevators honestly the 3200s should stay longer in my opinion, they aren’t even 30 yet, and the refurbishment would be a waste because it wouldn’t really have been used for a long time.
@@OliversElevators the brown line isn't guaranteed.
i wonder if the 7000-series is gonna be added on the blue line because thats actually my favorite line on the Cta“L”, nice horn by the 7000 series in the start of the video
These new trains look fanatstic! I love the blue and the tapered oval halo light around the headlights/tail lights!
Great sharing, can't wait to see these in action
Oh my god those 7000s I can't wait
I love your videos man hope you get hella amount of subscribers you deserve it
I didn't know the 7000s series L cars were testing right now on the Blue. Well, people in Chicago is going to miss the 2600s series trains dating from circa 1980s.
Awesome video, i love the cta trains & the 7000, I'm a Model Railroder, I'm crossing my 🤞 that the 7000 come in O Scale
Beautiful shot of the train pulling out of Belmont. And I see the flyover is going around the tower. I thought they were removing it.
Les goo another 7000 video
This is nice! I’m hoping to record this!
That's an interesting sounding horn. Sounds like a plain car horn when it out to sound more like a train whistle ideally.
They could've at least outfitted the trains with a horn that sounds like one of those railroad crossing wayside horns.
@@timothyj.harrington8952 yeah, I would’ve liked to see at least a streetcar-style electric horn rather than this horn. Or better yet, a K5LA! (But that’s not realistic)
You know I like the L as much as anybody else but this is some next level shit
The face reminds me of the S Stock of the London Underground
Kinda of does
Nice, the one thing is missing is the more colors for the train front
I'll maybe come catch them after pandemic is over.
While I love the new look of the 7000s I love the 3200s they recently assigned to the Blue.
Nice catch for sure👍👍.!! I know that "someone" said that after the acceptance test were completed, the first batch of 7000s would be assigned to the Midway Orange line. I don't know how true that is. But as far as I'm concerned, the Blue line should get them first only because that line seems to have been neglected for so long with respect to being upgraded with truly "brand new" rolling stock, although the rather recent assignment of 3200 and 5000 series is an improvement. Just sayin' folks.
I've been waiting like forever for the new cars. You get used to the train lowering so you can get on/off easier on the other lines, but you've got to remember to step up or down when it comes to the Blue Line. Kinda annoying.
They are nice and quiet
Nice catch, I also caught some at Skokie maintenance depot while riding the yellow line. They looked so good with their lights on! Do you know if those cameras will always be sticking out on the side like that, or is that just for testing?
The circular ones by the doors are for testing only
@@ChicagolandTransit Oh ok thanks
6:32 ooh! Low pitch!
Lol it sounds depressed
Will they be through-walkable all the way from from to back?
Sounds like the old Chicago subway
YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS
Ouuuuuuu yesss the blue lines!!
COOL!!!!! CTA! BLUE
Chicago transit when will those train in the pink line?
how do the cars get so freaking shiny
I wish we had these trains in New York
The 2600 series will be retired not the 3200’s
Only the base order of 400 cars will replace the 2600s. If CTA picks up all options for 846 rail cars, the 3200s would be retired as well. Yes it does seem early to retire the 3200s talking about it now but the 7000s still have a long way to go before they are put into service and the mass production of base order cars begin.
@@ChicagolandTransit I think the 3200 are here to stay otherwise the rehab wouldn't have happened last year and 2018
Why does Logan Square have such a long platform? It looks like they could fit two 8-car trains in that station!
It is very long! Thats because of station entrances at both ends.
Whoa the 7000s sway a lot, but they look nice.
Trust me it's not the train’s fault. The bad track conditions on the Congress branch of the Blue Line causes all trains to sway and bounce a lot. It's a whole slow zone between Racine and Forest Park.
Yeah they remind me of the 5000 series cars alot
@@ChicagolandTransit Fair enough, no wonder they were doing that work on the Dan Ryan a few years back (which I assume had the same problem).
@@mtattrain2 Yeah the Dan Ryan branch had the same problems
They look like the old ones. Couldn't they have created more modern looking cars at least?
What do you expect? A MAGLEV train? This is the Chicago 'L' where we modernize but keep the traditional 'L' car design going. Why? Because operationally it works.
They got rid of the original whistle? Sadge
Wonder if they have multicolor signs......
And to think that these trains were going to be used in Toronto instead of our Bombardier trains. Also why is this lines platform extra long when the train doesn't end there?
When the Forest Park branch was built there were a lot of plans that fell through. One was for the Chicago Aurora & Elgin interurbans to share the right-of-way as they did on the predecessor Garfield Park branch.
They look cool but they should add open gangways
Question, what testing was done this time?
Just to see if everything is working properly
No 5000 series on Blue Line sadge
Maybe I’m used to taking MTA my whole life but these still look old to me
Yeah, they haven’t changed the design much between years, even on this stock. The 2600, 3200, and 5000 series all look the same to me, and even the 7000 series still look outdated, aside from the front. I think most of the changes happened on the inside, with better seating, lighting, climate control, passenger information systems, etc. But Chicago still has a younger rail fleet than the MTA by quite a lot, and if they pick up all options for the 7000 series contract, they could have enough cars to replace all the 2600s and 3200s. That would make their rail fleet on average only 10 years old, which is incredibly young for a system of this size.
I was hoping it will do simulation stops 😣😣😢
Is that the new train?
Yes, some clips have the new 7000 series
I prefer the old horn, i don't like this new horn
Cutting bus service. ,but you buy new trains..
And where did you get money for that new train? Answer me right now!
Do some research and you'll get your answer, these series of trains were purchased years ago and are just now getting produced and shipped over to be placed into service, also there's a possibility that service cuts may occur nationwide for transit agencies if bailout federal funding doesn't get approved quickly enough to prevent that. So wherever you heard that from isn't true as of yet but service cuts were bound to happen regardless of this .
If it comes down to service cuts regardless of bus, Rail or both , It will be because of the trickle-down effect of layoffs
....Reduction in ridership as a result of the virus outbreak is the formality.
I know for a fact those are cloth seats on that train 😒😒😒😒
Cloth on the top, plastic on the bottom. Just like the cars that are on the Pink, Green, Red, Purple, and Yellow Lines right now.
This country does not make anything at all! The 7000 Series is made by CRRC which is a Chinese company.
