  • The U.S. Men’s National Team scored an emphatic 5-1 win against Panama in its final home game of this qualifying cycle. Led by a hat trick from attacker Christian Pulisic in front of a sell-out crowd of 25,022 at Exploria Stadium, the USA has put itself in position to punch its ticket to Qatar with a win, draw or loss by less than six goals in its final World Cup qualifying match at Costa Rica on the final matchday.

I never understood that, even the commentators were wrong saying that, I watch him play with Fulham for a few years now, he's just had a young team around him the US Men's team who are finally growing up. Making a mistake or two in critical situations shouldn't be a forever sin. The biggest problem in CONCACAFF is they allow to much BS to go on and refuse to call the games correctly, way to many fouls that would get Red cards in Europe are not even given Yellow cards. So the goon teams never learn to get better. No way Panama should have been in the World Cup in 2018.

@@MrRondonmon Great point. The "dark arts" of football are the norm for most of the teams in our region. What kills me is how easily fooled these refs are when calling most of these games. I notice that every time Mexico loses the ball , they literally fall down. As soon as they feel pressure, they fall down. Its almost comical. If it wasn't so frustrating. But our players need to be literally punched in the face to get a call.
Now this is my opinion, but I feel its also cultural conditioning. In the States , we play sports that reward players that stay on their feet. Football (NFL) , basketball, lacrosse , skateboarding, etc... So I feel that its an art that is lost on American players. Slowly we are learning how to take a foul. But there is a huge difference between taking a foul and straight up flopping. Having a majority of our players playing in top leagues is exposing our players to this "art" , but its still an innate response for most American players. As VAR evolves and some of these poorer countries install cameras, we will see that divide diminish. But I love the fact that we are starting see American players who feel like they truly belong on the same field as a France, Germany or even a Mexico.

I mean, he's fine when Musah and McKennie are out, and with Reyna and Aaronson not 100% from injuries. For me, Pulisic's hat trick in that game reminds me of Messi for Argentina in 2018, because there were some similar circumstances. In that final matchday, Ecuador scored in the first sixty seconds, but then Messi woke up, carried them on his back, and scored a hat trick to get them into the Cup. With Pulisic, the situation wasn't exactly the same, but it was still a crucial match and his hat trick effectively sealed qualification.

I think it would be pretty cool if the USA performed well in Qatar and showed the world the capabilities of US football, but just by watching these highlights I see some significant weaknesses that need to be fixed first before this team can be really great, especially defensively. I think the US needs to develop football more and also send players overseas to play at the top level in Spain, Germany, UK and Italy. If football culture as a whole keeps growing in the US I don't see why they can't eventually become World Cup contenders.

as a neutral fan this game has been objectively great for the USA, but i am seeing issues within the team even just from watching the highlights, that may come to be a problem when facing really quality national teams if they qualify for the WC. i’m talking france, germany, portugal etc. in this match i noticed steffen has not been playing well.. he needs to step up and be able to catch the ball in the air and make sure to handle the ball otherwise, higher quality teams are really going to make them pay, because they can just score the rebound easily with the likes of world class players. looking at this tho, USA could really have a chance if they utilised their best 11, as team quality may overshadow individual talent that other teams may have.

@@AlchZdot There has been a debate about whether he or Turner should be the #1 (Steffen plays for Man City but doesn't start while Turner was playing in MLS but doing fantastic). Now Turner is making the move to Arsenal so we might have two goalies playing fewer minutes at Premier League clubs. Steffen has much better feet so he can help the team build out of the back. Turner's feet are not great, but he is an incredible shot-stopper. Both are generally very good (though Steffen looked pretty rough against Panama on Sunday). Gregg appears to trust Steffen a bit more, but he has shown a willingness to replace players over time. Personally, I have no idea who will be the starter once we get to Qatar.

McKennie is easily our best scoring midfielders and our best player in qualifying. LDLT for Musah maybe, but not McKennie

@@yetekt8025 McKinney and Adams are a lock for the team and probably starting! If they play four or five in the middle, who the others are is tough to say. I think Luca Della Torre should somehow be in a mix but I don't know how well everyone complements each other!
Musa is very good but given his youth, he is not consistent enough. This last game was not very good for him. Maybe when he's paired up with Weston mckennie he plays better?
The US does not have a true number 9 and no consistent scorer. Ferrara has great movement and makes some great passes but needs to finish more consistently.

What a bad referee, to be honest, the victory of the USA does not bother me, it only makes me angry that the referee does not call the plays correctly, that is wrong and that is why the world is the way it is

Hmm England normally chokes at the World Cup why they never beat the United state. We have a very strong line compared to past years. No Tim Howard at goal put Matt tuner is sill good. We got the best play maker that usa has ever seen. I grew up watching Donavan, but Christian is better. Only thing is having a number 9 that’s consistent. If Pepsi, or Jesus become more consistent we set to go far. I haven’t watched Moore as much but Gio seems to be more affective as a winger. So does Christian. Christian not built to be a number 9 or false 9. Gio can but better as a winger. Iran by the way is worse than United States. They have never had a good soccer team
