Yo! I like Bhuda T's take on hip-hop towards the end of this chop... In fact, I'd even argue that all deep creativity, or rather that art in general does not exist in the absence of dysfunction.
Once art passes the stage where it comes solely from our imagination because we're kids trying to make sense of the world or kids just bringing to life what we see with the eyes of our minds, art generally becomes an outlet through which we negotiate with the troubles, traumas, disappointments, isolation, voicelessness and saddening realisations that come with the human experience.
Dysfunction brings us to hip-hop and it brings us to the arts in general. The creative culture is a crutch that keeps us abled in the presence of disablements.
That hip-hop fundamentally affords its creatives a voice is indicative of the dysfunction from which they find themselves existing in, where they must go out and seek fulfilling expression and expression which allows them to have a place in society amongst others searching for an escape from their own forms of dysfunction.
Perhaps, dysfunction is also just a basic part of the human experience because it exists across in one form or another. It is privilege to live in the absence of it.
I could even say that the amapiano movement, for example, is literally being fuelled right now by an ever growing culture of dysfunction within South African families, communities and society at large. And every other movement that preceded it which has offered a space for the youth to express themselves has been shaped by dysfunction and the resulting rebellion.

Had to check this pod out again. I can definitely relate to the dad topic and how Zingah extended his hand in order to "reconcile" with his dad because I literally did the same. It took some years, I resented the dude but one day I just thought about the whole situation and how my feelings towards him don't bring about any growth to me as a man, if anything it was quite detrimental and needless to say, he certainly came to the party and we've had a solid relationship since. There's honestly two sides to the story and it doesn't help having a mother pointing out how much a dog your dad is as if they didn't have a role to play as well and it sucks when both of them don't take any accountability and now as a child you have to swallow your pride as if you had a say when they had to breakup.
