My site got taken over a couple days ago because of this vulnerability. I found out when my hosting provider notified me that they had detected a file associated with malware on my site, which was still operating basically normally. When I tried to log into wp-admin I was locked out. Fortunately, they hadn't changed my email address so I was able to recover access, restore the site from backup, and update all the plugins.

      Hi Dan,
Restoring from back does not necessarily ensure that the site is free from malware.
Restores usually only replace files with those from the backup and do not delete any new malicious file added by the hacker.
So, always use a scanner to ensure that your site is free from any Malware.

@@ankitkhandelwal3071 Thanks. I'll check it out. I know the file in question was already removed by the hosting company, but they might have left other presents.
