I did enjoyed Half Genie for what it is, and I pretty agree it’s the second best recommended in the series. I been eagerly awaiting round 2 of this one ever since this series! Actually before that. All the DLC content maid the game a much more complete satisfying package. And I have to admit it’s still annoying repeating through the same stages, and lack of dungeons. Beach mode brings back very unfond memories of summer when I was sux. I spent some time in a wading pool with no shirt and ended up getting second degree sunburns on most of my back.
Yeah, basically. The level design is really uninspired and it's too easy to cheese the whole game, plus it was way too short. It really felt incomplete. Honestly, even the free DLC doesn't really fix any of this because it's all extra modes.
So I dunno if anyone cares about this comment anymore but I bought the "Day One Edition" of the "Ultimate Edition" of this game for myself as a sort of Christmas gift to myself aaaaaand. ... This games alright. I've played a majority of the modes with Pirate Queen and the Main story being my favourites of them but they still have minor flaws. Generally with the level design and there's a little too much backtracking for my taste. The other modes are enjoyable in their own right but with the exception of "Friends To The End" they're all clearly after thoughts to the other modes. Anyway the Ultimate Edition clearly is the best... Edition of the game but for those who only got the base game and aren't backers are probably best just sticking to the main story, Pirate Queen Quest & Friends To The End. ... I'll still probably use the name Blandtae as a sort of light-hearted trollish nickname for the series though.

So basicly if I want to play it I need to buy the game for 3rd time.
I think I liked 1/2 Genie Hero a bit more than Johnny does, especially now that the ultimate edition is out. I do agree with him on most of the extra modes especially Beach Mode, I HATED that gimmick so much I gave up after the first level. Friends to the End is nice gameplay wise, but the fact you have only THREE hearts and little to no health refills is GARBAGE! They definitely needed to increase the amount of health. But otherwise, a very good game, don't know if I prefer this or Pirates Curse.
That seems to be the thing with all these extra modes in this game, they just seem to all be fluff on top of a lacking regular game. The reason things like Richter Mode and all those other Metroidvania-era alternate character modes were so enticing is because the regular game is lengthy enough and decently challenging enough on its own (at least the first time you play them), but ten thousand new play styles on a lacking base game is just going to make that stick out more by playing as something it's not really suited for. It's also why I never got around to something like the extra characters in Mighty Gunvolt Burst. Having borderline limitless Special Weapon customization from the get-go is way more interesting to me than a paid DLC moveset when they could've added other stages and weapon types to exponentially multiply your options. It SHOULD be exciting to have extra characters in a Not Mega Man game, but Burst's stages are just okay to me that even throwing in a Zero-like character isn't gonna fix.
Friends to the End Mode was easily the best DLC mode. You basically know what to expect with Risky's mode, but not so much when playing as Shantae's friends. I hope they're playable from the beginning in the next game, or at least have their own levels. Also, Beach Mode was definitely harder for me than Hardcore Mode, especially during boss fights. Fighting Hypno Baron and Squid Baron was nerve wracking because only one of them would drop sunscreen. So, if you took one of them out (usually squid baron in my experience), and didn't weaken the other boss enough beforehand, you're stuck fighting the other boss, who would be behaving more aggressively and being more evasive, while constantly worrying about your depleting sunscreen meter.
Ngl, Wilbur kinda freaks me out and genuinely scares me. Why does that damn worm have to be so close to the screen when he's chasing you? I think the main thing that makes him look scary are those teeth of his and how they're so close to the screen. Not to mention he also has teeth inside his mouth.
At this rate Johnny won’t need to make a Round 2 video for Bloodstained Ritual of the Night because he’ll end up doing the review after all the announced free DLCs (modes, multiplayer, etc) are out!
Though I love Shantae I found the additions in Ultimate to be really underwhelming/infuriating. The cop and friends mode were the modes that I liked in this collection, but all of the other modes made me rage, especially trying to climb that tower ...good lord that tower tried my patience.

I was watching SomecallmeJohnny when this got uploaded...............WAIT WHAT!?
Lol same
I bought this game 2 times once around launch for the Wii u and again for the switch
It's awesome that you're looking at this game again, because honestly this game is my favourite! 😄😁👍
I've had this game in my backlog for a while. I'll have to get back to it before Shantae 5 comes out.
Well, I better get to applying for more jobs so I can land something so-
*Sees new Johnny video*
Eh, that can wait.
2016? Holy crap, I thought this game was only released a year or two ago! Time flies...
Next up: Sonic Lost World Round 2. Hopefully.
I unironically think there should be a round 2 of Johnny vs Minecraft seeing how much the game has evolved and how it's seen a recent resurgence.
You got me into the Shantae series, and it's so cool
9:44 oh forget the mermaid factory, how about hypno Barron’s castle. Which takes place, AT NIGHT.
So looking WayForward to 5hantae.
nice to see this game and these developers not just around but still putting out good stuff!
11:15
LOL
Finally, the Round 2 I’ve been waiting for
At this rate Johnny won’t need to make a Round 2 video for Bloodstained Ritual of the Night because he’ll end up doing the review after all the announced free DLCs (modes, multiplayer, etc) are out!
i wish i stopped playing beach mode after the tower climb because the fight against hypno baron in beach mode is actually torturous
Though I love Shantae I found the additions in Ultimate to be really underwhelming/infuriating. The cop and friends mode were the modes that I liked in this collection, but all of the other modes made me rage, especially trying to climb that tower ...good lord that tower tried my patience.
That last clip of Shantae and the gang...that art style looks so familiar...Oh...oh no...I'm getting Musashi: Samurai Legend flashbacks...Blegh.
