I live in Dallas, Tx so I got to see the full eclipse. It was so beautiful I immediately started praying the Our Father prayer. It was such an honor to be able to see even a sliver of God's Majesty.
My favorite single Bible verse mentions the sun. Proverbs 4:18 in the NIV (because that's what I grew up with). "The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter until the full light of day"

I cant say that the eclipse really hit my area of Texas, namely Lubbock, but I must admit that The Lord our God is an amazing architecht. Who else could build such a cosmos?

I too live in Lubbock and even though the eclipse was not total, it reminded me of Psalm 19:1. "The heavens declare the glory of God, the firmament shows the creation of His hands".
I live in Lubbock, but thankfully had the opportunity to go to the path of totality. It was beautiful. A great example of God’s creativity.

I am still amazed to have been able to see the eclipse in Brady, Texas (right in the true Heart of Texas). We had some clouds that parted just seconds before totality. I've heard the same thing happened in community after community in Texas.

I'm a protestant interested in Orthodoxy, but a preterist when it comes to eschatology. Eschatology is a non-essential issue, so we can debate vigorously but don't have to divide over this topic. The essentials of the historic Christian faith is the mystery of salvation and achieving holiness for the preparation of our souls in this life for the next life.

The essentials are Trinitarian theology and Christology.
I’m also a Protestant who is very close to joining the Orthodox Church.
Good luck to you on your journey. I highly recommend C S Lewis if you aren't already reading him. He is an incredible bridge between the modern mentality and Orthodoxy, even if he wasn't Orthodox himself.

I think the one who suggested C.S. Lewis makes a good point. I read many of his books, and loved them, and it is quite possible that they did help ease me towards Orthodoxy. I had never considered that possibility.
But i also suggest reading about the saints and the books out which explain much about the Orthodox Church, as well as works like The Prologue of Ohrid, by St. Nicholai Velimerovich.
The Prologue is a daily reading about some selected saints and then a reflection, scriptures to read, etc. He is called the second Chrysostom because of the beauty of his words. The volumes are not inexpensive, but they were and still are a deeply valuable guide and help to me. I have often thanked the friend who told me about them. BLESSINGS on your journey. ❤ One of the Orthodox channels yesterday, but i don't remember which one, probably roots of Orthodoxy, which is doing such excellent interviews with so many remarkable priests, posted a notice that they had just recorded an interview with Fr. JOSIAH which would be uploaded [probably in tantalizing segments, as is usually their way at first], whenever they could get it ready..
I think it may be released first to their supporters (bless their hearts for helping us see such work), and then for the rest of us.

The Sun is Christ. The Moon is the Church. For some the Sun will turn into darkness. But within His Church His Glory will be full. It is the Church that obstructed His Glory. No one else. The Lord warns us year after year - beware my Grace will be taken away, beware my Grace will be taken away. I’ll take away the lamp stand. Or perhaps he is taking it as we speak.

Feel remorse for what you do. Apologize to God. And go to church and find a good priest to confess to. Idk your exact situation, however.

Frather I was under the impression of The Sun "darnkeni g" it's self was NOT an Eclipse, but the Sun it's self just went dark as a testimony against The Crusifiction of Xriçtos (Christ) I think this is also what The Church Fathers stated.

Thankyou Father Josiah would you tell me what is the difference from the Orthodox church and the Catholic church I am a Catholic I love being a Catholic I understand that there are so many issues but just a brief explanation. Do you have all the sacraments that we do?
The Orthodox Church is the church founded by Jesus Christ. Yours is founded by the Papacy. Come home.
Apologies for the other guy's rude comment, he's not a good example of Orthodoxy. The Catholic Church recognizes that the Orthodox church has valid apostolic succession and all 7 sacraments are valid as well. Orthodoxy doesn't submit to the doctrine of the Papacy (Vatican I), reject the Filioque, reject the Immaculate Conception, reject Purgatory, and have a different concept of original sin and Hell

Im a new Catholic. I greatly admire the orthodox tradition. If there was an orthodox church on the island I live on I might of chosen to attend. But there isn't and as I admire the monastic traditions of the Catholic church there was only one way to go. And I now live in an old Dominican Priory, my room used to be a nuns cell.
The podcasts "Lord of spirits" and "whole counsel of God" helped me. Also orthodoxy and hetrodoxy by fr AS Dammick.
I was pentecostal /methodist.... Hadn't a clue and full of pride I realise now. No repentance.... Itching ears. I got baptised thank God 6 months ago.
To be honest tho, the first orthodox parish I visited was sadly very worldly, cold and lukewarm...... So use decernment and fast, pray, study and be patient.

Question not on eclipse topic . My entire life been in a denomination that came from the holiness movement. Been in deep research on the orthodox church for a year now and convinced its the real church. I don't have an orthodox church within 200 miles of me, but I am willing to start the conversion process. But not sure how I start this process any help would be appreciated.
Contact one of the priests or the bishop in your area and ask him how to proceed. What you're describing is not unheard of. Perhaps you can travel a few times a year, or maybe he can come to you. I'm sure something can be worked out.

Fun fact: the eclipse in August 2017 , 7 years ago, went through 7 towns named Salem. Recent eclipse went through 7 towns named Nineveh. The two paths of the two eclipses make a cross on the United States. At the center of the Cross is a town named rapture 😮

There is no word for coincidence in Hebrew.I believe the solar eclipse is God telling us to repent as Nineveh is associated with judgement and repentance.We should be praying as we approach Holy Pascha.May God continue to strengthen our faith

God created the universe in such a way that we get these amazing shows every so often - on a predictable basis. God is not a god of chaos but a god of order.
In addition, have you thought about the fact that the moon, with a mean diameter of 2,159.2 miles, and the sun, with a mean diameter of 864,938 miles, appear almost the same size in our sky.
The reason they appear nearly the same size (and result in total eclipses) is their distance from the earth, which is almost perfect for that result.
But the amazing thing is that those distances are important for life here on earth. The sun, any closer or further away would result in temperatures too hot or too cold for human life. The moon, any closer or further away would not stay in position. In addition, the moon is partially responsible for our tides which help support ocean life.
None of this occurred by happenstance. It all points to the Creator.
