Thanks. No, I don' think I ever put this up (partly because I never gave a lecture on him) - sorry. But you will find an article if you go to my website - google Alan Macfarlane - under publications. Cheers, Alan
First of all thank you, for uploading these lectures, I have enjoyed them all and found them very informative. And please, take a look at the waqf (trust) system and the history of its rise and fall in Islamic societies. "Understanding the waqf in the world of the trust" by Stibbard, Russell and Bromley in Trust &Trustees, Vol. 18, No. 8, September 2012, pp. 785-810, available on line.
I wish this trust topic is picked up by other researchers and delve into off-shore companies, tax avoidance, and other shenanigans to defraud the tax-paying people for the sole benefit of the top 1%. Maybe the time's come to retrench the legal underpinnings.
Hi Mr McFarlene, I was wondering if you had any more lectures for second years that you could put up? Anything on kinship, gender and ritual would be great. Or is there any where else I could get a hold of this? Thanks
Hi Alan, at the very beginning of this video you refer to a second lecture whereby you discussed Sir Henry Maine - is this lecture also on CZcams? If it is, unfortunately I am having some difficulty locating it. Cheers, Hugh.
Misleading; both use that phrase but in different contexts. Maitland uses it to promote the corporation whereas von Gierke for criticizing individualism of Americans.
Such valuable lectures. Thank you so much for making these available in the public commons.
Fascinating informative and compelling. Thank you so much for making these lectures widely available online!
This is the content I need.
Excellent, thanks for making these public
Very interesting - a thinker I'd not encountered before.

the "individualistic dust" quote was wrongly attributed to Maitland as it was made by von Gierke.

What placards?
Thanks
Lots on my website (google Alan Macfarlane and see under 'Lectures'), Alan
