@jdsteele44 Muffling to me means placing your finger over a string (or strings) so that it doesn't sound.
Basically you're covering the string with your finger so it's silent.
In the intro at ~1:40 in my video, you're "muffling" the low E and A strings so when you strum, you can strum all the way across all strings, but only the D, G, B, and E strings can be heard.
You will use this "muffling" a lot in this intro b/c you don't want to hear some strings when you strum in this intro.

@GundamEclipzed37 Actually it's on both "Learning to Breathe" and "The Beautiful Letdown." I guess they weren't satisfied w/ the 1st one - there are a coupe key differences btw the versions.

@thealfworld If you're having trouble with hitting strings that should be open with your fingers, I would suggest you shift your left hand position so your left thumb is in the middle of the back of the guitar neck.
Also, if they aren't already, but your nails for your left hand. It might seem weird, but doing this helps your left hand position by using your fingers and not your nails to press the strings down.

@TheMycomedyzone Sorry my bad! I'm glad you called this to my attention - I corrected it with an annotation. Your 2nd finger goes on the 8th fret G string, and your 3rd finger goes on the 9th fret D string.

There’s like three or four tutorials on this song, and nobody plays this song first before they do the tutorial, and it’s like my brain can’t comprehend it otherwise

haha I remember this video. This was one of the first videos I found when I had gotten my first guitar. I remember being so frustrated with the weird chord shapes 🤣 now I'm a progressive metal guitarist... I'm used to the weird chords. lol
