@@goldenburger836 ha yes totally fair. But they're also at very different stages in their life cycles. Marvel has lost its footing after a significant period of tighter planning and solid strategies. DC is restarting and don't have the same margin of error that Marvel does when it comes to being a bit sloppy

This is probably the most excited I’ve been for DC in a LONG while. The next few years are going to look quite interesting.
I think the biggest sleeper hit is going to be Swamp Thing. There is so much of the magic and cosmic forces that can be introduced if done right. Then move into a Constantine and a Justice League Dark TV series.

I'm so excited for all of this. The potential for fun, inventive, adventurous story telling is all there. I've been SCREAMING for "Green Lantern Space Cops" for years. James is really showing that he's all about story-first filmmaking with this (partial) announcement, and I'm 100% here for it.

The biggest announcement to me was Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow! I read it last year and it quickly became one of my all-time favourite comics. The way it re-contextualizes Supergirl in relation to her reputation, and dives more deeply into her response to trauma was fascinating, and my favourite expression on those classic superhero themes of hope and mercy. I never would have dreamed they'd actually turn it into a movie!
as a big fan of the the original Wildstorm Image Comics, I am super hyped for a live action The Authority. and for all the other Wildstorm properties too.
Honestly I think that movie is gonna end up being a big hit, I think a bunch of people are sleeping on that, once stuff like casting comes out and then eventually trailers I feel like it’s gonna generate a lot of hype. Characters like midnighter and apollo have a ton of potential to blow up popularity wise Imo

I have nothing but total faith in him and this DC Universe slate.
My most anticipated releases are Superman: Legacy, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Green Lanterns, Swamp Thing, the Authority and the Amanda Waller series.
Swamp Thing and The Authority will also be movies. He said their aiming for two films and two HBO Series per year for the DCU.
Excluding the elseworlds, right? I find it a little too slow if it's only two movies a year. But I suppose it's better to reduce overworking employees

If Gunn can get me interested in guardians then I’m sure he’ll do great with these unknown characters, for me. Right off the bat I’m just like meh there’s only two projects I care about and that’s Superman and Batman, except I’m curious what’s going on with the robins before him.
my takeaway is that gunn and feige need to be protected at all costs over at least the next decade. who says people are tired of comic book content? we have years of material to look forward to. 😄
As long as Warner Brothers stays out of Gunn's way, like Disney did for Feige, then DC will be okay

@@mothermedusa9921 Yeah, I liked it quite a bit, but I know they can do more. I was satisfied with the show, never thought they’d do a film after that was cancelled, but hearing it’s a horror origin story makes me think they can really nail it.
I'm stoked to finally see a live action John Stewart. I really hope they have Phil LaMarr as like John's dad or maybe someone who influenced him in the Marines in like a flashback or some sort of callback to the JL and JLU.

Also, I don’t think this announcement is necessarily designed to make us all care again and I think Gunn is aware of that. The shows and movies have to come out first and prove themselves. I think this is just to set the tone of what’s to come and manage expectations. And if the shows or movies are good, the care and interest will come on their own time, just the same way Marvel did, and the same way Gunn did with Guardians. If nothing else, Gunn is well versed in doing stuff that nobody really cared about and proving it to be a success.

No not any more. He got too busy with Guardians and Superman to write season 2 so Waller tv show will be a bridge between season 1 and 2
After hearing Coy Jandreau GUSH about how amazing Tom King’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow“ 12-issue run is on The Reel Rejects, it jumped up to my most anticipated project of the bunch. That sounds like such a cool, introspective, but still emotional and imaginative concept for Kara Zor-El and looking forward to it immensely. I’m also so happy he highlighted the writers specifically, they often get forgotten but they’re at the forefront here, and I love that!
You should definitely read the comic if you haven’t yet it’s amazing! Or you can just watch the comicpop video on it which is really well done lol
There’s still so much more of the slate left to be announced and James has a 10 year plan with really talented writers at work so the movies that you want to see will probably come to fruition at some point just not at this time

I agree that the Lanterns show has got me intrigued! Hopeful for Blue Beetle to be good. First Shazam movie was really fun so hopefully the next one will be too.
All I REALLY want from a new Green Lantern project is a cameo from Ryan Reynolds where he ends the scene by putting on a red ski mask and saying, "Smell ya later, losers, I'm Audi 5000."

I’m excited about this and with casting announcements- it will increase hype. It’s too early for anyone to be jumping for joy- but it’s nice to see DC with a plan to move forward.
Rome wasn't built in a day neither was the MCU. This slate is great and I'm finally excited for the DC universe.
This has to feel different from the Snyder verse and I love that we’re getting a lot of HBO Max shows. It’ll be similar to peacemaker. I’m excited the future of the DCU is bright 💯💯

The lanterns is about the only thing new i'm looking forward to. the rest of it if its older characters like Aquaman, and so on. I"ll check out, but the rest are characters or stories I"ve never heard of.

The first and only season of Swamp Thing was so good. Shame they shut it down right after it started streaming on DC's service along with Titans.
This lineup is bonkers as hell and I love it!
If you listened, he more or less said Peacemaker will be integrated into Waller. So, it sounds like it's going to essentially be season 2.

Its interesting that the animated stuff is going to be cannon too. I'm a bit sad about The Batman being its own thing tho bc now we are gonna get another different Batman. Can't wait to see how it plays out.

I've always loved Superman, but I've always felt no movie ever got him quite right. He is a man with the power to do anything, and he still can't save everyone. And yet he never stops trying.

Blackest Night is still one of the best runs in comic books personally. I hope the Lanterns show does well and eventually they run that arc. I'm optimistic for James Gunn's vision as a whole. Let's hope the directors, writers, and casting nails it also.
I couldn't care less about the entirety of the DC movies since Dark Knight, but this is Gunn. I think I may trust him.

You guys also have to remember, this is only part of Chapter 1. There is still going to be more to come for Chapter 1 at a later time. James Gunn is going to crush this.

I'm honestly looking forward to seeing everything he talked about, because it all sounds super interesting - but the thing that stood out to me the most was the Lanterns TV show, the Supergirl project and Swamp Thing.
Of all the things he announced looking forward to SwampThing as I used to read the comics and yes I seen the two pervious attempts.

Im glad that, at least it seems, it looks like there's a plan. It was time for a full restart with Superman even though Cavill was great, casual fans were gonna be confused.
My question is that since Gunn said that they're planning to have the same actors as the characters in both the films, TV shows, and even the games, does that mean for Superman Legacy, Tyler Hoechlin is going to be Superman in that film since he's Supes in the TV series?

I just love James Gunn so much. Even if I wasn't excited, which I am, his enthusiasm is infectious and I cannot wait till it gets started. I wish it wasn't still 2.5 years away for Superman and I kind of want a Booster Gold series immediately but this all sounds great to me. I'm glad there's a vision and someone is actually interested in telling a story more than shoving IP onto a screen.
I’m honestly excited for this slate!The way he and Safran describe Superman as a man with "kindness in a world that thinks that kindness as old-fashioned" (THR) is so refreshing to hear, and Supergirl being the darker counterpart to Kal-El sounds fascinating. "Booster Gold" is tailor-made for James Gunn, I think that'll be a fantastic fit! “Lanterns" is so exciting to hear because we've been sorely lacking in GL content, and Paradise Lost seems like something lots of people will get into as well. "Batman: The Brave and the Bold" can lead to SO many fun possibilities because it means that we're finally getting a DCU with THE BAT-FAMILY, something I've always wanted to see in live-action. We've had a few great "Swamp Thing" adaptations but I bet this'll be great too, and possibly lead to JL: Dark with Constantine, Zatanna, Deadman and co. down the line. Creature Commandos and The Authority are teams I know nothing about, but I didn't know anything about the Guardians of the Galaxy either and I think those are some of the best comic books movies ever made (part 2 especially), so I'm open to it. It's the "Waller" show that confuses me the most, because it's the thing that's the most overtly connected to the old "DCEU", making me question it canonicity in the new continuity. Overall though, this is a great slate (assuming they stick to it) and I can't wait to see these characters come to life!
There is a ton of *potential* in this lineup, but that's the thing. Until we get a good feel for what they're actually building, all it is is potential. I am though cautiously optimistic.
I was on the fence about Damian being the first Robin, but if they go the route of having all the other Robins fully established, I will absolutely lose my mind if they do a Nightwing movie that spins out of Brave and the Bold. Because remember that Brave and the Bold isn’t specifically called Batman. It can center around all kinds of Batman-centric characters as well
But then they will have to cut a lot of corners. There are only so many characters that can be already part of the Batfamily. If Dick is already Nightwing, then what about Tim? Or Jason? Or Stephanie? Or Cassandra?

DC and Marvel were responsible for making me a fan of superheroes and comics, but mainly DC for characters like Superman, Batman and others (but mainly Superman). and I'm happy that finally DC can go on a good way.

My love for DC mostly comes from Batman The Animated Series and Justice League. I'm cool with James Gunn getting the reins, but I doubt I'm going to be that into it based on this announcement. Casting is going to be hugely important.
Brave and the Bold could be good. That's one story that hasn't been done to death.

If I'm being honest, I'm excited about maybe 1/3rd of what was announced.
So basically, after The Flash, the Snyderverse will be relegated to Elseworld status.
I think The Authority is going to be The Boys-esque without the parody.

Unfortunately James said that the Green Lantern show will be primarily on earth, which is a shame because I love space stuff and absolutely hate it when fantasy, sci-fi, etc are constrained to one location that just mirrors our own world.
Give me aliens and planets in the DCU, not New York for the millionth time pls.

Amanda Waller show might replace the peace maker show? Since Gunn said they would use some of the same characters. This would give writers a chance to change characters through the seasons depending on story lines.
Looking forward to the lantern and Waller tv shows.
I didn’t think they are going to keep the current aquaman or flash in the new dc universe. I think if they are hits, they might squeeze out 1 more sequel each. Which can be done because they will not have introduced the new flash or aquaman in the new dc universe. We know we are getting a new Batman and Superman; there is no way that we are not getting a new Wonder Woman.
All in all this sounds like a VERY James Gunn slate. With Shazam 2 and Flash kicking it off, I'm kinda shaky but James Gunn tends to do well with misfits and lesser known characters. Cautiously optimistic.
I am actually really hyped for this new reboot as long as WB execs stay the hell out of James Gunn way and let him make the movies and shows we wishes to make then I don't see why this new cinematic DCU wouldn't be absolutely AWESOME!!!!
So guys am I the only one connecting the dots and impressed?!
1.The authority can lead to Superman vs the authority/ superman vs the elite is one of his best stories. Supermans morals vs a whole team of killers and anti hero's. Superman showing the ugly side of why he cannot cut lose or go evil and why he is the light of DC.
2.swamp thing alone can lead into John Constantine, zatanna, dr.fate, and even the vertigo lucifer morningstar Characters. Swamp thing has ties to the great evil beast/great darkness.
3.batman having Damian means the league of assasins, Talia al ghul, ras al ghul, and the entire batfamoly is already established. This can lead into a all out war of the bat family vs the assasins or even court of owls.
This is all very exciting for a DC comics fan, and these projects look great. However, for the general moviegoer, you need to consider whether they will appreciate and understand what "Elseworlds" means and hope they can separate the different films' continuities. Having a Gunn-verse, Reeves-verse (The Batman), and Phillips-verse (The Joker) all sharing a pool of the same characters but not being connected has the potential to confuse and therefore alienate a wide percentage of the movie-going public (there could be 3 versions of Batman/Bruce existing on the big screen at the same time), and the box office will reflect that. Box office is ultimately the only metric that matters in this buisness. The success of this venture will depend hugely on casting, so we'll see....I hope they get this right.
Peacemaker S2 was officially announced by the old regime last year, and James Gunn was meant to work on it after wrapping _Guardians Vol. 3_ post-production. However, with Gunn becoming co-CEO of DC Studios, things have changed. According to him, Peacemaker S2 is still happening, but later down the line, as he's busy writing _Superman Legacy_ and other upcoming projects. Even though it'll be a few years before we get a S2, we'll see Team Peacemaker in the Waller TV series, which will be written by someone else.
Most of the announcements are pretty meh for me, but The Lanterns announcement gave me fucking CHILLS.
