    I'm a Malaysian Indian. Each and everytime I travel to South India, TN specifically it is my ritual to visit Mylapore. Kapaleeshwarar temple, surrounding bookstores and messes, and the cultural shops are simply my favourite. Now I really miss Mylapore since the last visit was in Sept 2019.

      My father used to take me to Rayar's cafe in the year 1950, then it was situated near Mylapore police station ( Kutcheri Road) and there were no tables then and we will all sit upon the lengthy mat (பாய் )on the floor after a profuse welcome by the elderly Rayar ( " Banri swami! Kooth kolree!) வாங்கோ சாமி! உட்காருங்கோ,!) No ordering business! Rayar himself will serve hot iddlies and medhu vadas with very liberal serving of thengai chutney. Pure heavenly taste! No billing also. Everybody will pay the correct amount faithfully! And the elderly Rayar doubled up as cashier also in all smiles. Never seen such homely service ever since. The legacy continues. May God bless them.

      Please don't go by what is played in political arena. Uptil recently, even pessimistically put, till 2000 atleast, udipi hotels were of vogue - - no frills, hygienic, taste, budget. Madras could be said that it gave run for its money to its neighbour Bangalore in kannadiga/konkani/tulu veg hotels. Such was the patronage.
      The advent of so called new-age, especially indulgence of politicians in this business has muddied and ruined the ecosystem, especially in Chennai. In this aspect, good old madras lost its finasse to direction less chennai.

    • @cmouli
      @cmouli Před rokem

      One thing I want to add is the first ever hotel business across Tamilnadu was started by Kannadigas only. Now mostly the name Udupi prevails but no Kannadigas there , it is owned by someone else.

    Thanks for creating and sharing this video on Rayars Cafe...when I was studying at Vivekananda college in the late 1980s, I was a regular visitor especially when my father used to come down from New Delhi and take me there for breakfast...for about ₹5 we'd have polished off awesome idlis, pongal and wonderful accompaniments that went with them, not to forget washing it down with some excellent filter coffee...the owner then was the thatha...he would put so much love into his cooking...a very iconic place and a must visit place for all Madras visitors especially in Mylapore and if you enjoy lovely homemade style tiffin! ❤️

    Now a days even wife is getting bored to cook for her husband and children after some years. ( it is happening in my house) Really hats off to this man. What a affection to his brother. This gentleman says that he is working for his brother. Innocent and kind hearted man. I pray god for blessing him

    There many ICONIC restaurants in Chennai who serve food with passion, love and for well being. Radars is one of them. Raghunandan should bring all such restaurants to the forefront of common people

      @@RakeshRaghunathan - Also while we are on this page, It will be also great if one documents the core principles and practices put forth in Vedha agama purnas in an effective way from the texts or directly from brahmin gurus who practice them, will greatly benifit everyone as to how to restructure the way we think and living life according to those principles will enhance human life experience. Sorry I always wanted to do this at some stage, if I come to India and when I have the right ppl connection and time. But I felt good to share my thoughts with you so it may resonate..
