been doing OMAD for 5 months. 2 hr eating window from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. I walk/run every morning for at least an hour and do a short strength routine most days. I've lost 28 lbs. 11 to go. I'll turn 71 in 2 days.

OMAD and exercise is giving extremely quick results, but you need to know that your body and mind can handle it. If you already fasting for a couple of months, recommend to do OMAD first for at least a week and then build up your exercise routine.

Started IF about two months ago. What I love:
    No more seasonal allergies
    Energy and brain function
    Less feeling overwhelmed with life
    Naturally wake up earlier
After adding in Dr Mindy's advice to use along my menstrual cycle:
    Mind blown!
Instead of fighting through the old desire of just pushing through around day 19-20, I started being kind to myself and feeding to help produce progesterone...
    Game. Changer !
Now my body set weight is slowly lowering...rather than super high swings up and down I'm able to listen to my miraculous body and act accordingly. Thank you Dr Mindy!!!💕

Thanks for the well explained principles on fasting and exercise.
In my case, almost at 60 years old, I come from an athletic background, and although not into competition anymore, I want to stay fit for a variety of activities.
These activities are based on endurance training, but have a lot of explosive or high energy segments. Plus, a weekly HIIT workout.
I've been polishing my fasting schedule, from 12 to 24 hours. I've kept the fasting flexible, but constant, depending on what I eat during the week.
On weekends, I go for longer duration exercise, but at the same time, allow myself to enjoy more dinner and wine 😊
My goal through fasting has been to improve my glycogen sparing capacity. And it's worked perfectly, allowing me to go into exercise on a fasted state and manage workouts that, in the past, required breakfast and within workout refueling!
Fasting is a journey, and a very liberating one indeed.
    Regards👋

What if we're mid-fast and not supposed to eat, say 1 PM, but we work out at 8 am? Is it bad to not have protein immediately** following a workout or can we afford to wait till 1:30? I've been fasting while exercising (usually 10k and weightlifting, alternating days) but wait hours before I can eat. Is that bad? I'm also following your hormone cycle

  • @nhuphuong060688
    @nhuphuong060688 Před 3 lety +3

I think many still believe that if we don't eat something before working out, we won't have the energy for it. For 2 years, I've been fasting and (following your instructions) exercising in the fasted state (when I can) with no problem at all. My exercise was mostly running on the beach and when my knees hurt, just kickboxing in a very simple gym. Recently, I moved back to the city and had a personal trainer. He's aware of fasting but was shocked when I told him that I only had 1 meal per day :))) Still, he would tell me to eat something at least 2 hours before coming to the gym. Well, I know he's one of those who don't believe in working out in a fasted state. So I would go about my normal fasting and then to the gym in the fasted state (without telling him anything though) and he would sometimes not be able to understand how someone like me (chubby, haha) can work out with him (kickboxing) for 1,5 hours and still runs easily 3km more on the treadmill afterward. Haha :))

What happens to fat cells? Is it true that they just shrink rather than get excreted or used up by the body? If you start with excess fat, does it mean you will always have it and that you will forever more be susceptible to having those fat cells expand quickly?

Hey Dr Mindy, how long is the maximum amount of time you can wait to eat after a workout? If I'm not hungry after my workout do I still need to eat protein to build muscle or can I keep fasting for longer benefits? Would a workout day classify as a MTOR building day or would I just raise my protein level and still stick to the ketobotic or hormone feasting cycle please.

That is okay if you don't hungry yet as long you break your fast with protein to lean your muscles. 💪🏻🙂

According to Thomas Delawer the longer you you wait after you work out the better for loosing fat. He mentions something like 2 hours. In these 2 hours your body is still burning fat but the body is intelligent and will wait for the meal to recover

Hi Di, it’s quite confusing as Dr Mindy says we are all different. I also listen to Dr Berg and Thomas Delauer they have great suggestions on what to eat after exercise for weight loss.
They also suggest changing it up as the body plateaus if it is doing the same thing all the time.

How should we handle intermittent fasting when we do long single day hikes or backcountry skiing, or on multi-day treks? A lot of my physical activity and exercising happens while doing a sport. I currently IF and on a typical ski tour day, I can start the day of touring around 9 or 10 am and then break my fast at noon (eating window is 12-8pm). Based on this video it sounds like I am fine to IF while I do these long, single day activities. What about multi-day treks or overnight trips? Thoughts on whether I should break my fast on those types of trips given the stressors IF and the exercise would have on my body?

    Hi Dr Mindy
Can you please talk about intermittent fasting (water fast) and pregnancy?
Pregnant women do not need to eat every hour to get their nutrition in but that what we hear these days and it just doesn’t make sense.
Also I know that it is okay to fast while pregnant, i’m Muslim so we have Ramadan which is a month of dry fasting for up to 14 hours and as long as your pregnancy is normal and healthy and without issues, we can fast the entire month, and I did fast Ramadan while I was 7 month pregnant with my first baby.
So i’m just curious about how to do intermittent fasting as a lifestyle and in a healthy sustainable way while pregnant? And is it okay to do it for the whole 9 months of pregnancy?
    Thanks alot

Both of them I do 30 min then I break my fast with broth then wait 30m, probiotics (Sauerkraut, Kimchi and avocado). wait 30m . Then steam vegetable. wait 30m. Last protein. I do it with all my fast. Should I change only in my workout break my fast with protein? And then broth, probiotics, steam vegetables?

I am trying to build muscle and I work out fasted for over 2 months now, but I actually got a lot weaker. I've lost significant amount of muscle and never felt weaker in my entire life. My performance decreased drastically and I'm looking everywhere but have not idea what to do. If you can help me I would highly appreciate it because I really need to get back to moving forward instead of backwards and being this weak really drives me insane.
