  • There are no magpies in Newfoundland so when the south east Irish settled there they brought over the superstition about seeing a lone magpies and lumped it onto the native black crow. So they have the exact same as us with the blessing etc but it's a crow they hate seeing. Here is Patricia Dohey telling me about it and there's a brilliant story of her friend going to buy a new car but when a lone crow landed on the one she was about to buy - she changed her mind and got a different car instead. Stick it on.
