I came back to overwatch some times ago after a long break, and honestly it's good if you play ariunf to have fun, only downside is the toxicity of certain person (since crlssplay and all) but its easy to ignore them. Still it is my favorite shooter out there
The lore backstory of these two characters is what adds so much to the cinematic, which they don't go into at all. Hanzo use to be the best swordsman around, but after believing he killed his brother Genji during a big blowout fight after their father's death, he swore to never pickup a sword again. And the dragons thing seems to be a Shimada family trait, though it's never clarified if it is magic or tech, but only they can control it. Extra bonus fact, the Omnic that was assassinated by Widowmaker when she beat Tracer in London was named Mondatta. He was basically the MLK Jr of Omnics. He has a younger brother named Zenyatta that was the one that took in and trained Genji to find his inner peace, which is why he didn't kill his brother in revenge
I would also like to add Genji is a cyborg because overwatch saved him and gave him a new path being a part of the Blackwatch and basically using his assassin skill for “good” and after overwatch and blackwatch get shut down that is when he goes and finds his inner peace in Nepal with the Omnic monks.
Regarding the dragon, can I say that the idea I saw for the first time was a cluster of nano-robots gathered under genetic code lock and voice control?
Don't know if this is correct or lore but 2 things came to mind on 2 Hanzo dragons is him still finding his way or him mastering the sword as well as the bow. Also Genji sending the blue dragons back is hinting his deflect ability which also can deflect Hanzos ultimate
The reason for Genji forgiving Hanzo is rooted in off-screen lore. After being saved and having like 60-70% of his body replaced by cybernetics, he went to Nepal to rediscover who he is and coming to terms with his new personality under the mentorship of an Omnic named Zenyatta
Also Worth mention that Zenyatta is a Omnic monk from the same clan as Mondatta, who was shot by Widowmaker on the "alive" cinematic. (and yes, its Zenyatta Mondatta like in that album form The Police)
The thing that really gets me about this animated short, is that all it takes for him to recognise his brother is to see his eyes. That's all he needs.
The feather that Hanzo places down at the beginning and the one that appears after Genji disappears in smoke is meant to be a sparrow feather. 'Sparrow' is the nickname Genji's father gave him.
The sort-of high-level overview of the backstory of Dragons is that Hanzo and Genji were brothers born into a family of assassins and mob bosses. Hanzo was expected to take over the family, so Genji wasted most of his time on luxury and was generally an embarrassment to the family. When their father, Sojiro, died unexpectedly, the clan elders ordered Hanzo to reign Genji in. The argument eventually turned into a full-blown fight and Hanzo was forced to mortally wound Genji, which Hanzo believed Genji died from. Hanzo was torn over having killed Genji, so he left the Shimada clan, becoming an exile. Genji survived his injuries, and was brought on by Overwatch, who offered to rebuild Genji's body in exchange for his help in dismantling the Shimada criminal empire, which Genji accepted. After Overwatch collapsed, Genji travelled the world, eventually meeting the Omnic monk Zenyatta, who helped Genji come to terms with his cybernetic body. Last we heard of Genji and Hanzo, Genji was helping out a reformed Overwatch, while Hanzo had become an assassin for hire. As for the dragons they seem to be able to summon, it's unclear whether they are magic or if there's simply some technology at work at here. The majority of the community seems to believe they're magic, but I'm not convinced one way or the other. But, given that this is a world where some people can turn themselves into clouds of smoke and then reform their bodies with seemingly no adverse effects, at that point I'd say pretty much anything is possible. After all, as the saying goes, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
The story being told is how the first shimada brothers came about way before genj and Hanzo’s time. They were dragons and became human through their emotions, something along that line. As time passed their story was told throughout all their bloodline like a fairy tale and so that’s why in the beginning the person telling the story is Hanzo and genjis dad, and he told his sons that story before he died if I’m not mistaken.
I definitely think it’s some bleeding edge nanotech and hardlight that would have been illegal to experiment on to get to a point that it worked. We have seen plenty of other hard light in the Overwatch setting and as someone who likes the “it’s all technically science even if every time someone has super powers it seems like a one in a quintillion chance it would have worked out that way” trope that seems like the best in universe explanation.
Will say I am glad both of you understood the metaphor of the dragon story. I've seen a number of people react to Dragons and so many of them suddenly think Hanzo and Genjii are both the ACTUAL dragons from the story. Rather than realizing it's just meant as a storytelling device and in universe a tale their father told them.
The reason Hanzo has two blue dragons is when he "killed" his brother, he took his power, much like _The Dragon of The South Wind_ did to _The Dragon of the North Wind._ Presumably in their years estranged during his quest for meaning in life, Genji regains much of his own lost power.
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitiveGames I think it's less about killing and more about sentimentality. If you were driving a sports car with your brother in the passenger seat and you crashed and he died. You might not want to ever see or use that kind of car again. Not because you have something against convenient travel but because it reminds you too much of what you did.
There's a reason why the Sparrow's feather is such a very important piece of the Cinematic. Genji's nickname was the sparrow and so the feather represents him.
Apart from gameplay reasons the two blue dragons may be a symbol of Hanzo's unwillingness to join a side because in game he is asked by both the heroes and villains if he would join and he denies. So Hanzo is your typical anti-hero trying to fight his demons
Well, itt is technicly game mechani. I think. Because the two dragon moving in circle covers the area of effect which is damage everyone around the dragons path. I remember something like this from how its made videos. And so it become lore too.
hanzo: Ryū ga waga teki wo kurau (let the dragon consume you) and Genji: Ryujin no ken wo kurae! (take my dragonblade). Genji was saved by Mercy. She is a healer in game. and another think very accurate by blizzard is, every champion in game is from different country and you can see the BIO of every one for know where are from each of them :D.
I'll never get over that moment before Hanzo uses the dragons. The "you dare lecture me about honour" is a give or take, almost too expected. But the fact that all we know at this point is that Hanzo killed his brother because of duty, seeing it also as a burden, and yet he says, "You are not worthy of saying his name." It's an immense showing of respect and I love seeing it every time.
I look forward to your reaction to the "Glory" video - the best film of all in my opinion. Out of curiosities about Dragons - Mercy (one of the characters in the game) saved Genji's life. Then he went on a journey with Zenyatta around the world to accept himself. Thank you so much for your reaction! :)
Besides all lore everyone said, there is a fan theory about Japan (or at least the Shimada clan in particular) being something like omnic-phobic. Hanzo kills just the only omnic guard, and when exposed to Genji, he just asks: "What have you... become?" with a certain disgust in his voice.
i think that "what have you become" just comes from the shock that his brother is alive and completely different. only the omnic being killed might be for censorship reasons. note that human kills tend to be somewhat...cleaner and more hidden, while omnic deaths are more graphic
This cinematic brings me to tears every time I watch it. The Story of betrayel an forgiveness but also of redemtion is beyond perfection! But I think what makes this so amazing is the Soundtrack. This Soundtrack is so on point! I love it
So happy to see y'all uploaded both of these videos just in time for my lunch break. Excited to see your reactions! BTW I LOVE Overwatch and the cinematics that Blizzard puts out.
I love how well you guys articulate your opinions about the video and how you can show that you understand the underlying story by being able to explain it in great accuracy and detail. Awesome
This story always brings a year to my eyes because of how I relate to it. Feeling like having commited an unforgivable mistake and attempting to atone for it. Hearing the words of forgiveness from those you feel you have wronged hits too close to home.
Everyone I'd pointing out cool stuff and I might as well put my two cents in because I hadn't seen any point this out yet: When Hanzo enters the room where he struck down Genji (the room he pits the incense down) you can see the bloody slashed tapestry and in the wall there are shuriken left by Genji during that fight years ago. It's even in game too.
Our boi held back his tears....i could see it :D I spent my entire childhood with my brother....we were of same age and we were best pals and bitter rivals at the same time. I have not seen him in a long time due to covid and travel restrictions, so when i saw this trailer it made me miss him more. Thanks for the reaction.
Yes loved the reaction and this always gets me hyped bc it’s just an amazing storyline and the brothers story is just amazing also well said at the end too
I've been waiting for you guys to react to these cinematic shorts, thought to check out your channel, and I swear it was like Christmas to see that you'd reacted to them both! I love how the lovely miss (pardon, don't remember the names), was able to soak up so much depth from an 8 minute video. You guys are amazing and it would be cool to know you in real life! Love your content! Waiting for more overwatch vids!
I love Ken's reaction when Hanzo used his dragons. Had the same reaction when i saw it for the first time. If you like the character Hanzo, i would advise to watch: Dragons of the Nexus from Heroes of the Storm.
YEEEEEEES WE'RE GETTING INTO THE GOOD STUFF! Also fun fact the video is narrated by the voice actor for Shang Tsung from mortal kombat. There's a subtle nod to the moon base that Winston was raised in briefly when it shows the moon, and in game you can see the damage from their fight 😁 There's a lot of symbolism in the video as well, Hanzo put down a feather next to the incense because Genji's nickname was the sparrow. Hanzo is also kneeling in front of Genji's old sword.
Oh yes, I've been waiting for this video and your reactions for a while. The story of the two brothers and really amazing and exciting, continue as his, you have spontaneous reactions that are nice to see. Ps: Hello from France :p
i gotta say watching you guys is a blast very innocent reactions but not dumb and its obvious you guys don't simple make up reactions and actually absorb what you guys are watching and think really about it yet react to different stuff (sometimes) and this is way better with both of you discussin stuff after the reaction keep it up guys i am looking forward to more
You guys picked the perfect time to do these as a double feature! Fun trivia: Originally there was one character planned for the game who was a sort of mix of these two but Blizzard decided to make them separate characters as brothers.
The bit said about Rise and Shine at the end is something that beautifully encapsulates why we all love these Overwatch Cinematics so much. Each one is very character-driven, and each one has characters that, on some level, people relate to. For Mei in Rise and Shine, it's that feeling of isolation and overcoming both internal hopelessness and external circumstance. For Dragons, it's the struggle of family, betrayal, regret, and forgiveness. No matter who you are, there are aspects of every character that you can relate to (some more than others, obviously, depending on your own experiences). And it's why fans of these cinematics get so excited about others seeing them for the first time; we love seeing people new to these characters find the ones they connect with.
One of my favorites for sure , this is great , love when game / stories add some lessons for younger generation to look up to. I have a brother and 2 sisters so this was closer to me since as a kids I always fought my brother :( but not anymore of course barely see him this days so i value him more. People don't realize how much close once mean to you untill you lose it , but once you lose them it's too late! "Think about that BROTHER"
I love this video, I remember the first time I saw this I liked how the first brother is in denial that the cyborg like one could even be his brother until he had the evidence he needed
You know, watching this cinematic for the umpteenth time has granted me some new insight. Throughout the cinematic, there's hints throughout the fight that the masked intruder is indeed Genji. Note how Hanzo's opponent psychoanalyses him throughout the fight, especially how Hanzo felt he had to kill Genji to maintain honor. Yes, if he were an assassin sent by the Shimadas, they'd probably be willing to tell him what happened, and he could have merely used that against Hanzo. But the Shimadas could not have given Genji such a deep understanding of his own brother's mind. Look back on how clearly stressed Hanzo is throughout the fight. You can see the anger on his face as this intruder lambasts him on his past deeds. And the guy knew EXACTLY where to hit Hanzo, too-look especially how surprised Hanzo is when Genji name drops him. That, to me, is Genji's own understanding, for how could anyone but a person so close to Hanzo read his emotions so accurately-and know EXACTLY what to say to get under his skin? Next, we come to Genji's line: "I know you come here, every year, on the same day." Yes, this could be an assassin who's really done his homework, but I doubt the Shimadas would be so lenient on time. Hanzo had been causing the Shimadas no end of strife over the past year, and it'd be an embarrassment to such a traditional family to have their eldest son be trashing their operations. But Genji wouldn't have to worry about time. As far as the Shimadas knew, he was already dead. And to add to that, Shimada Castle was Genji's home, too. Genji may have even went looking for Hanzo whenever he had time. What better place to start than home? Now, granted, Genji actually discovering Hanzo there for the first time(BEFORE the cinematic, I must add-Genji knew Hanzo would show up that night) may have just been pure luck. But even if it had been luck, it wouldn't take Genji much to realize the significance. It's kinda hard to forget the day you almost died. All it'd take is a few additional trips to Shimada Castle at around the same day every year to confirm Hanzo's new nocturnal activities.
You two have such distinct lenses on these videos and pick up so many points the other misses, and bring them together well in the end. I know there's the on camera and off camera, but I'm seeing something about why you work so well together.
Story timeeee~ Well Hanzo and Genji are the dragons... Hanzo fought his brother cause the clan's elders of Shimada clan told him to talk to Genji and made him participate in family bussines (Shimada family was something like Yaluza the Mafia) but Genji wanted to live the life his father let him live before... playing games, being a playboy. But in the end this thang turned into real conflict and Genji lost. Hanzo loves his brother so much that he wasn't able to give him the final blow even Genji suffered so much pain. He let Genji die and left the battlefield (and he didn't confirmed the death)... Genji was saved by the doctor Ziegler which Hanzo didn't know and thought his brother was really dead, that is why he gave him the offerings at the temple "..the den of ur enemies." even when Hanamura was originally their home Hanzo left the clan after the fight cause the burden was too much to handle and the clan became his enemy. Mercy took Genji to Overwatch who gave him the new life in form of new body (cyborg) so he joined them but he could not accept the fact he's half machine so after while he lwft and wandered around the world then met Zennyata the omnic priest? who helped him accept himself. Hanzo declined the offer to be part of the organization lol. Hanzo believe his brother died that day so he didn't know the ASSASIN was actually Genji till he told him. Even if Genji in the end accepted who he is, Hanzo did not and no longer see him as his brother. I mean many people thinks he's the villain of the story but I don't rly think so. He wen theought his own hell then being forced to kill his brother… ://
I don't know if there's specific lore behind the 2 blue dragons vs 1 green, but in game it works exactly like it does in the short. Hanzo fires an arrow that summons the 2 spiraling dragons and Genji's sword summons the 1 green dragon while he uses his sword. The Overwatch team has said before that sometimes there's no explanation or lore behind a character's ability, it's just part of their gameplay :) I guess you could say Hanzo has 2 because he's older and was always more mature/focused than Genji was, that's why Hanzo had to kill him.
I believe it's because of the means of going about it. Hanzo uses it in instantaneously in a long range fashion which is a lot less of a risk. Genji uses it up close for a duration. Generally something farther is safer than closer
I don't even play Overwatch anymore but the quality of these short movies makes them so entertaining to re-watch.
😎🤩😊

I've been waiting for you guys to react to these cinematic shorts, thought to check out your channel, and I swear it was like Christmas to see that you'd reacted to them both!
I love how the lovely miss (pardon, don't remember the names), was able to soak up so much depth from an 8 minute video. You guys are amazing and it would be cool to know you in real life!
Love your content! Waiting for more overwatch vids!
Thanks so much! Glad you’re enjoying the Overwatch reactions. 😊 We see enjoying watching them all 🤩 And names are Bethany and Ken ☺️🥰🤗

I'm not sure what it is but y'all quickly becoming one of my favorite reaction channels. Love the work y'all do!
Thanks so much, Brandon! 😃🥰😊🤗
Loved the reaction and your interpretation is spot on!
Yay! 😃🥂🍾🎉🥳
Can’t wait for you guys to react to honor and glory
Yes! Finally you guys got to this one! It's one of my favorites! Genji and Hanzo are awesome character in the game.
They better be after how cool they are in this cinematic 😃
I have been waiting for this. It's my favorite Overwatch cinematic
😃🥳🥳🥳
Ive watched this for years and i only just realized that the last image of the dragons makes them look like a single dragon.
☺️ love it when you spot new things in something you’ve watched a much of times before 😃
I love Ken's reaction when Hanzo used his dragons. Had the same reaction when i saw it for the first time. If you like the character Hanzo, i would advise to watch: Dragons of the Nexus from Heroes of the Storm.
Sounds like a cool one to check out 😃 We will put it on our Overwatch list 😇
YEEEEEEES WE'RE GETTING INTO THE GOOD STUFF! Also fun fact the video is narrated by the voice actor for Shang Tsung from mortal kombat. There's a subtle nod to the moon base that Winston was raised in briefly when it shows the moon, and in game you can see the damage from their fight 😁
There's a lot of symbolism in the video as well, Hanzo put down a feather next to the incense because Genji's nickname was the sparrow. Hanzo is also kneeling in front of Genji's old sword.
Thanks for sharing some fun facts and extra info on vid 😃
Oh yes, I've been waiting for this video and your reactions for a while. The story of the two brothers and really amazing and exciting, continue as his, you have spontaneous reactions that are nice to see. Ps: Hello from France :p
Bonjour! 🥳🥳🥳🎉🥂🍾 Glad you enjoyed reaction. Dragons lived up to the hype for sure 🤩
Dragons will always be my fav, it’s what got me into overwatch in the first place.
You could actually feel the strength of the arrow fired when he said “ But that does not mean, I do not honor him!” And actually see Hanzo recoil
Another awesome reaction!! Keep up the good work!
Thanks! 😃🥳🥳
i gotta say watching you guys is a blast very innocent reactions but not dumb and its obvious you guys don't simple make up reactions and actually absorb what you guys are watching and think really about it yet react to different stuff (sometimes) and this is way better with both of you discussin stuff after the reaction
keep it up guys i am looking forward to more
Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the reactions.🥳🥳 But as a chaos god we ask that you not possess us 😉😝
Fun fact! The narrator is the voice actor of Shang Tsung from Mortal Kombat 11 and the original Shang Tsung from the First movie ☺
😃😎🤟
Narrator in this short is Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, he gives voice and look to shang tsung in mortal kombat 11 :D
😎🤟😁
You guys picked the perfect time to do these as a double feature! Fun trivia: Originally there was one character planned for the game who was a sort of mix of these two but Blizzard decided to make them separate characters as brothers.
Love learning the fun fact trivia 😃🥳
I just wanted to say that you guys are my favourite reaction channel!
Thanks so much! 🥰😃🤗😊
You guys made my day😁
Awww. We love hearing that 😃🥰🤗😊
The bit said about Rise and Shine at the end is something that beautifully encapsulates why we all love these Overwatch Cinematics so much.
Very well said 😊 👏
"Sry hawkeye, this guy will kick ur ass" 😆😆
🤗
I love your reactions on every video and i love you guys react to popular games 🧐🍷🔥
Thanks so much! 🥰😊🥳🤗
Well said 🥲🤗
I love this video, I remember the first time I saw this I liked how the first brother is in denial that the cyborg like one could even be his brother until he had the evidence he needed
Agreed. Was really well done that moment and characters were really fleshed out for such a short film ☺️🤩
I CANT WAITO TO SEE YOU REACT TO REUNION!
It’s next in our OW list 😃🥳
I love overwatch cinematics. Thanks for your reaction!
Our pleasure 😊🤩
All it'd take is a few additional trips to Shimada Castle at around the same day every year to confirm Hanzo's new nocturnal activities.
i love the story telling of overwatch. I still play to this day.
Animated shorts they make are fantastic 🤩
amazing vid guys!!
Thanks! 😃🥳☺️
6:15 dude has the face of a kid watching his favorite cartoon.
😂🤗
I was waiting this for so long 🤠👍
😊
the best Overwatch short, hands down.
😎🤟
The music was great loved everything
Amazing cinematic 🤩
Thanks for giving us more story and info on these two 😃🥳
Dragons kills me everytime i watch it. Thanks for Sharing your reaction on this cinematic masterpiece.
Our pleasure 😊🥰🤩
Ayyy finally! Much love
😊🥳🤗
Finally I've been waiting for this 🤯🤯🤯🤯
😃🥳🍾🎉🥂🤗😇😁🤩
7:31 That "Genji" always gets me
i audibly said “LETS GOOOOOOOOOO” when i saw these two videos
Haha, that amazing 😊😁🥳🥳🥳🥳🎉🎉
I don't know if there's specific lore behind the 2 blue dragons vs 1 green, but in game it works exactly like it does in the short. Hanzo fires an arrow that summons the 2 spiraling dragons and Genji's sword summons the 1 green dragon while he uses his sword. The Overwatch team has said before that sometimes there's no explanation or lore behind a character's ability, it's just part of their gameplay :) I guess you could say Hanzo has 2 because he's older and was always more mature/focused than Genji was, that's why Hanzo had to kill him.
😎👍😃
I believe it's because of the means of going about it. Hanzo uses it in instantaneously in a long range fashion which is a lot less of a risk. Genji uses it up close for a duration. Generally something farther is safer than closer
my guy was absolutely baffled
long I waited and been finally rewarded....now to OW2 cinematic!)
Now to Honor and Glory! 🥳🥳🥳🍾🥂🎉
