I'm 70, when I was a teen we had a rather big house, huge walled garden and we always had dogs, mostly german sheperds, well there was this specially intelligent one who hapenned to choose me as his master, stories about him could never end but seeing this video memories came back, he didn't need regular baths, the reason is that every other day he used to jump into the pool, consider this info coming from Guadalajara México where winters are quite mild, and the months between april and june are quite, quite hot, so no official baths for the dogs, they are quite happy getting wet, now we have an english bulldog we adopted being an adult, we do bathe him about once a month trying to keep a balance between his skin oils and his need for freshness.

I adopted a 2 year old Shepherd who had had three owners before me. One had brought her in to be put down as untrainable. The vet refused, thank God. When I got her, she needed to be taught some manners, but was a terrific dog! She was my companion and best friend for 10 years, and helped me to teach another Shepherd cross all the socialization he had missed. He had bitten everyone in the family but the mother and father. He, also, went after strangers. He was a SCARY dog. He let me pet him the first time I met him, but second time, I thought he'd kill me! I was going to house sit their dogs for a year, including him! I moved in and my female let him know that I was off limits, just standing between him and me. That night, my Shepherd climbed into bed with me, and he stood looking at us. After a minute or two, he decided to try climbing on the bed with us. I welcomed him up, and he cuddled in. He learned to love my extended family. He growled at my brother once, and my female did as before, letting him know that wasn't allowed. And I corrected him, too. When the dog sitting was over, they asked if I’d take him. I did. He never tried to bite another person. He became a lovable dog. His former family was shocked, but very happy for him. That first Shepherd started my love of the breed. I had at least two Shepherds for the next 35 years! Wouldn't have missed a minute of my time with them. TERRIFIC dogs! This brought back MANY HAPPY MEMORIES! I'm too old and disabled to have one now, and I really miss them! I downsized to a Cavachon. He's adorable, too. He treated my last Shepherd like she was his mother. And she treated him like her pup until the day she passed!

I grew up with german shepherds. My favorite was Dutchess. She was a black with gray trim, long hair german shepherd. Mama said we were picking up an Australian shepherd, lol. Watching these clips, I'm missing having a german shepherd.

I don't know how many times, when I was feeling low, or out of sorts, and my Sheperd. Out of character, slowly walked over, and laid his head on me....somehow, they just know, and want to comfort you....😊
