A quality guitar is important, too. Notice how things sound magical on a Tom Sands? There are more affordable choices, but a professional instrument inspires in ways that should not be underestimated.

Loved this video Will! Very helpful. In some ways validating, and in others a valuable look in the mirror showing me where I can improve my practice discipline. Keep em’ coming 🙌🏼👨🏼‍🏫

Thanks Will. Lots of great advice there. Not sure if you mentioned these but playing a melody on its own and thinking about where the phrases start and stop, playing the bass line on its own and clapping out rhythms independently of the notes are all things I find helpful but don’t do enough of.

Motivating video, Will. I love the idea of keeping practice enjoyable. I slip into "playing my guitar" rather than "practicing" if it is not fun. I would love to hear your ideas on these two questions: 1) how do you integrate songwriting and creativity into your practice or do you keep this time totally separate? and 2) while dealing with an elbow problem for over a year, I had to find ways to practice without the guitar in my hands. I did find that I was able to actually improve in some areas while also staying motivated (it was frustrating though).
    Thanks, John

Hello John, what kind of practice you did without the guitar in hand? I’m particularly interested since I have suffered a couple really bad bouts of tendinitis in my elbows which have kept me from being able to play for very prolonged periods sadly.
