@Birry the russians were famous for launching the first spacecraft putting the first satelite into orbit and sending the first man into space. they are also very well known for being rocket scientists so it only makes sense that a reward in a russian game for an 8-bit system is a "cool" 8-bit rocket launch

Our shattles were such bullshit....reusable reentry glider NEVER a true "shuttle" USSR was wise to save what little money they had to spend and cancel their nearly identical effort to do the same thing. The smart thing would have been to collaborate ...ALL space venture of any real scope ought to be international collaboration and done RIGHT...We would no doubt have lunar bases and have had men on mars by now, dont you think? I mean if the whole world got involved? Both spreading the tremendous cost and tapping the best minds from all the billions of people rather just ones among a quarter billion or so

There were some versions with 4-digit point system (with max score 9999) but usually they use 6-digits (and the last two digits are always 00 so the max score is 999900). In Tetris, you get 100 points for 1 line at a time, 300 for 2, 700 for 3 and 1500 for 4. And when you overflow 999900, the points become 000000 but 999900 is still stored as your hi-score until you remove the batteries or use the reset button available in some Brick Game models.
Great record! I have a question though, what is that sound that plays when the last brick falls, before the game over tune plays? Sounds like a sheep bleating in front of a really sensitive microphone and converted to midi format.

I never understood what that launching rocket ever has to do with tetris, if nintendo just had make a cut scene where a wall breaks down and then seeing people escaping and run away, that would,ve be a waaay better ending,

The limit of the numbers on that original scoreboard is either $99,999 or $999,999 for game shows back then. In modern game shows, aren't we glad that it is now centered? Centered Scoreboards make numbers go on almost forever.
The reward screen is wrong. The shuttle launch is from winning B-type. When you get the victory launch in A-type you get a different style rocket.
I would absolutely LOVE a copy of the minuet version of Tetris I don’t know why it started off using the regular version and then switched to the minuet version

The space shuttle is not supposed to launch at the end. It launches in the B- type game.
The reason with level 9 is, that the highest level, you can choss before the game starts, is level 9.
This is also the reason why always the numbers of 1 to 9 are showen in the level-box.
Seems Nintendo had enough place in the score to add another number to attempt 9999999 points and 99999 lines.

Actually, it's not fake -- there's two different versions of GB Tetris, and each has different "A-Type" music. The theme playing from 0:58 onward is from Version 1.0 (which is kind of hard to come by). Version 1.1 has the theme we're all familiar with.

When does the big space shuttle appear in A mode (which score or which number of lines) ? I think I went up to 210-220 lines / 350000 points, but always got the medium one. Now I'm trying to top that with an emulator - but I'm really impressed by the skills displayed here : I can barely moves those damn pieces at level 20 (my joypad isn't very accurate, though, it might improve things a bit with a better one).

The gameboy version of Tetris was the best version
Apparently, the game doesn't seem to give a damn about how many lines are destroyed when increasing the dropping speed. Once it got into 999999 points, it didn't get any faster.

Yes, Artem this game is not supposed to "finish" execpt there is one ending where spaceship is going to space
Spaceships are launched each time when you have 100000 points or more. For 100000 to 149999 points a small space ship is launched, for 150000 to 199999 points a medium-size spaceship is launched and for 200000 to 999999 points a big spaceship is launched. But you can still play forever before this happens, so this is not "ending".
However if you play a "B-TYPE" game, the game ends after a certain amount of lines.
@MJongo You're right, I realized it by now. Sorry about that. But the rocket is still the wrong one. I found ouzt that after 250 k points the rocket doesn't change anymore (which is very, very sad, by the way, I was looking forward to seeing my 300 k rocket). But otherwise, yeah, you're right, so sorry about that. ;-)

@MJongo at least one single person that thinks like I do! First of all, the level shouldn't stay at 20 after 200 lines, it should go on rising...and everybody who ever played until lv 20 knows, that it should pretty soon become impossible. The rocket is, as MJongo said, from game B. So, no, I'm not convinced, either.
You don't actually need a Gameboy to play Tetris. There is a specially designed handheld console for it that doesn't require cartriges and cat last for months on two AA batteries. ;)
It's called Brick Game (actually this, not DS, is world's most sold handheld console, but it's just impossible to count its sales). See my next post about hi-score overflowing in this console.

Because it’s the 1.0 version of Tetris for the game boy which is very rare almost every copy sold was version 1.1
Version 1.0 it was only ever in Japan and there is about 25,000 copies of it

@@reidasher8804 A trick I found is to use side wells at first but once it starts speeding up at higher levels set up a center well so if you get a straight piece you can just drop it straight down and not have to worry about having a misdrop on the sides

Takes me back a WHOLE LOT OF YEARS but my sons had game boys and the only thing I liked was tetris which we played killing time traveling back and forth to weekend cabin. I dont recall my high scores but I would reach a point where there was a rocket ship and then another thing was like an Egyptian pyramid...never understood the significance other than I kicked all my kids game playing butts in that one/my only game

@@homuraakemi103 There's a ton of people that could do this legitimately, this is borderline baby's first tetris. 9999 lines doesn't show any "upper limit" to the game either, since the speed maxes out way way way before then.

Not just what you said but a space shuttle appears the end which you will only get for finishing level 9 high 5 on game b. Regardless I reckon it would take about 10 hours to get that many lines!!!

How is it 'fake'? By what standards, especially when the author said he used savestates (or, snapshots as they put it). It's a TAS made for the purpose of finding out what happens at each milestone - many older games break because designers never imagined players would reach such absurd scores, and so scores/level and such weren't typically coded with caps.
Its pretty obvious that he simply started a new recording for the later scores from a run started at level 9 - pretty simple.

@idiosyncrazy1980 It's about score... 100k = small rocket, 150k medium rocket and 200k+ = buran. This video is fake, because when he started game, he was in first level (for 4 lines he had about 1500 points) and when he finish the game and wrote his name, he is in level 9
