  • There are many ways up to hike up to the iconic Hollywood Sign in Los Angeles California, but which is the easiest and how do you get there? Come with us as we show you where we have found to be the best way to do so - from Lake Hollywood Park via the Innsdale Trail. As non-locals to the area, we had always found it somewhat confusing when trying to navigate our way, not only to hike to the sign, but find a legitimate place to park and even see it. The hike itself will take you into and through Griffith Park and you will see great views of the surrounding LA area, hopefully the downtown skyline if the day is clear enough and not too hazy, and a transmission tower. If you want you can even hike to other parts of Griffith Park as well, there is a whole lot of other things to do there - not just the sign. Check out our Los Angeles trip playlist below too.

I've done it a million times, sometimes it's clear; sometimes it's hazy but it's a LOT less hazy than it was during the 70's. I remember my first plane ride into LAX too, looking out over the city (around 1979), it looked like a dirty ashtray back then.
Have you ever been up to the Wisdom Tree? I think I might go there on my next hike. That's one of the few places in Griffith Park I haven't been to yet.

@@liquidbraino From trailhead (Lake Hollywood Dr & Wonder View Dr) to Wisdom Tree is a lot tougher starting from ave ~10% to 20+% grade upon reaching Wisdom Tree 0.80 miles later. Trailhead to Hollywood Sign is 1.5 miles. Much of path from WT to HS is narrow goat trail with some treacherous terrain requiring sure footing and handholds lest you fall from tricky ascents/descents.

I don’t know your pace, but around an hour or hour and a half maybe, plus any time at the sign. Are you just going to be sticking to LA while visiting? We have done a bunch of trails in the area and nearby Malibu / Santa Monica mountains. In my opinion, the one must-see is Sandstone Peak. Not hard, not easy, about 3 miles, top of the Santa Monica Mountains. Did it last year, although just came out with the video haha. Ray Miller trail is cool as is Mugu Peak. The Backbone trail is like 70-80 miles and has amazing sections. All of these are in the same Santa Monica mountain area. I have heard Runyon Canyon - near LA itself - is popular but can be really busy. Hope this helps. There’s so much you could do

There's a great book called "Walking In LA" that's FULL of great hiking spots. I think there's something like thirteen waterfalls you can hike to out here. Bridge To Nowhere is a good one; so is the Dawn Mine if you like a bit of a challenge. Bridge To Nowhere you have to cross a stream several times.
BTW, the first sentence in that book is "Nobody Walks In LA".

Wrong about Bee rock. Bee rock is nowhere in that area, it's closer to the Glendale side. What you were pointing to is closer to the Disney studios, Bee rock is way over on the other side, way past Forest lawn, travel town, the golf course and the Old LA Zoo. It's not visible from where you were standing but if you go to the old LA Zoo up close to where the cages are you can see it and that's also the faster way to get to bee rock. You can hike right up to the bottom of it or take the trails on the far West side of where the Los Angeles Haunted Hay Ride is performed every year and just follow the trail.
I perform in that show and like to camp out near the old LA Zoo during performance season and get up around 4-5 am to go for a night hike up to Bee rock, arriving just before sunset. It's a nice little hike which gets a bit creepy if you go a certain way but once you're at the top there's GREAT views of the old LA Zoo, the golf course, Glendale etc.
Other than that, great video with easy to follow directions but it's actually not necessarily the easiest way. This is about a three hour hike but you can get to the same spot in about 20 to 30 minutes by going to the end of Beachwood and hiking from the Sunset stables.
That's if you want a quick and easy hike, I like a good challenge though and have hiked all the way from Fryes electronics in Burbank to the Tommy's on Sunset Blvd hitting the Hollywood sign about halfway; going clear over the mountain from Burbank into Hollywood. Last hike I did I went up Western, parked at the Park and Ride at around 5AM and hiked the rest of the way. That's about an hour long hike but totally worth it if you're going after dark, the views are amazing.
About the toughest hike I ever did to the Hollywood sign from from the area you pointed to with the red arrow but closer to Forrest lawn. I went straight up the side of the mountain from the Burbank side and definitely don't recommend it unless you're absolutely F'ing insane. Had to climb UNDER lots of bushes, got all scratched up and dirty, got lost a few times and the further you go the steeper it gets. I almost fell a few hundred feet; grabbed onto a vine sticking out of the ground like some Raiders of The Lost Ark shit and if I'd have fell from that location they MIGHT have found my dead body several years later. Nobody hikes in that area & for good reason, there's a million better ways to get there but that was around 1985-86 and I didn't know any better.

Haha thank you. Figured out Bee Rock was not where I pointed out based on doing it later that day. When we first came to Griffith, our friend took us through a curlicue of trails from the carousel to the sign. We had no idea what we were doing. Was looking for simpler this time haha! And man, sounds like you nearly bushwhacked that! I used to go off the beaten path, but had a few scares early on too to make me not do that anymore. It’s a really beautiful park. I always look forward to exploring different parts of ig

@@MagellanandGreyhound Oh yeah, the carousel is a nice area. I worked on some commercial up there once for a Vegan burger thing. That's actually kind of a funny story because after I got booked I sent a message to my best friend joking that "now I can afford my hookers and drugs" - accidentally sent it to the casting director. I think that's the most embarrassed I've ever been in my entire life! I apologized and said it was meant for my best friend; joking etc. I was certain I'd get fired but she thought it was funny and we were both holding back laughter when I arrived on set the next morning.
