- I do not recommend you spend your money on these 3 whiskies! There are far better whiskies out there for the money.

I also Like the Machrie Moor, but the other two i totally agree on :) Overprised Talisker and a Jura with to little abv...
If you like the machrie moor 46%, you gotta try the cask strength if possible! One of my favourites and you’ll love it for sure if you enjoy the 46% 🙂
Ouch. I have not had the limited Talisker, but tough when expensive releases do not connect!
I really wouldn’t recommend it, expensive too! If you know someone with it in Canada, always worth sampling but I just didn’t get much out of it. I’d even prefer the Skye or storm to it tbh so it’s just overpriced in my opinion, I was very underwhelmed but I have seen two people who really enjoy it so I think that’s also worth mentioning
@@WhiskyWars Tastes always differ, but good to know when bottles just don't hit. Cheers!
Yes agreed! Hmmm I am waffling with the Talisker. I like this actually. The other two are not worth buying again and I won't! Fabulous video! Thanks so much!! 🙂
Thank you Christine! ☺️
@@WhiskyWars YW!!
I like the Machrie Moor 😂; but i’m gonna try the CS you recommended. And i like the Parley 😂, cause im a Talisker boy but it is true the Parley is way too pricy for what it is ☹️
Hey man nothing wrong with that, just my taste! Oh definitely definitely try the cask strength and do let me know in the future if you prefer it! 😁
@@WhiskyWarswill do 🥃😊
I always say: if there is an option get CS in same expression, go for it and forget standard, mostly 46% version. I bought Machrie Moor CS for aprox. £50 and really enjoyed. Jura? Simply ignore 40% OB, waste of time and money. Thats it. After fighting with myseld finally i gave a pass for Parley. I really enjoyed Talisker before 2020 era when their whiskies were solid good. Stashed old good 10 and Sky and now i focused on other expression. Only one Talisker i want try is CS from Bourbon Barrel, some special release but they are bloody expensive. I plan buy one before Christmas when on sale 🤞. Cheers and Slàinte 😁🥂🥂🥂🙋♂️
You can’t go wrong with that mentality! I’m similar. Unfortunately I first got into taliskers in 2021 so I may have missed their golden era but I still really enjoy the distillers edition and the port ruighe. They have some really well priced expressions but others are just obscenely priced. Best time to grab them at that time. I got some really good deals last black friday-Xmas although I always have an eye out for a sale.. 👀 cheers!
How interesting that you love and hate Machrie Moor at the same time! Ah man Jura sucks! The only good Juras are the IBs if you can find them and maybe the 21. I'm surprised you don't enjoy the Parley but of course to each his own. Cheers!
Haha I know! It’s a bit strange but when you think about it, they’re the same price really in my market and the cask strength for me, brings out a much nicer flavour profile that the 46% doesn’t go near. I find the two really quite different which did surprise me.
Ah yeah I’m so disappointed with the parley and I just cannot believe the price they’ve put on this bottle. I wouldn’t say I hate the parley or the machrie but I do think they’re whiskies to avoid because the cask strength I think is the much better option and with the talisker, the distillers edition and port ruighe are both far cheaper and much nicer in my opinion so I just think these two are best to avoid and instead to get other whiskies in their range. Personal opinion though as you say and I know this is fairly controversial but I always have to honest
Thank you for all the whisky content!
I'm trying to figure out just how much sherry I like in my whisky. I know I like peat. Can you think of a roughly 46% abv, about 10 years old, lightly peated (akin to Talisker or Ledaig), but heavily sherried whisky? It seems to me that most whiskies that are predominantly sherry are often aged >10 years or are cask strength. I plan on doing a comparison, but I don't want to have too many variables to deal with.
You’re more than welcome! Thank you for the nice comment. I have the Talisker Distillers Edition and the Port Ruighe, recently posted the DE but will post the port ruighe next week. The latter is a port finish but still a red wine finish so it will get you close to that. They’re both 45.8% and I can honestly say that they’re my best 2 taliskers. I believe the distillers edition is roughly 10 years but likely is a little less, the other is a NAS. If you was thinking islay, the laphroaig 10 year sherry oak is amazing and full of sherry but very different to the island whiskies. For your comparison I’d say shoot for the talisker distillers edition. I have the 2022 and it’s very nice but I believe most of them are. Hope that helps! If you have any further questions just drop them in on any video and I’ll do my best to help out
Ignore the laphroaig recommendation, I didn’t see the “lightly” peated part of your comment. I love it, it’s heavily heavily sherried but also very peaty, strong islay.
What whisky do you want to compare this one to?
@@WhiskyWars I have a hunch that I prefer sherried whiskies, but I'm not sure how much sherry I like. Everyone has recommended Laphroaig Sherry Oak, but the stock in the US is dwindling. If it's like Uigeadail, then I know I'll like it. Have you heard if they're doing another batch?
For my comparison, ideally, I'd like to have a lineup of whiskies with varying Bourbon%/Sherry% influence. First 100/0 in favor of bourbon, then 70/30, then 30/70, then 0/100.
@@jwrocks5129Kilchoman Sanaig is great for the $$. Sure it's NAS, but 46% and definitely get sherry influence.
It’s way more sherried in my opinion than the Uigeadail so I think you may even like the laphroaig a little more.
Oh okay, I get that. Well in that case, kilchoman do the machir bay which is 90/10% bourbon to sherry and they have the loch gorm and sanaig which are a lot more sherried but they give you the percentages which I think you’ll like. Just like @100puremustard5 says
Thank you for the review.
Even though I've only had the Jura of those three. Jura 12 was one of the first I tried, and I didn't really like it. Too spirit driven. I was initially intrested to try that Talisker, but after a few reviews, I decided to give that a pass. It got quite mellow reviews. None of them was particulary blown away. High price for an average whisky.
I've never seen that Arran here, but I'll take your word for it.
If you like talisker, both the distillers edition and port ruighe are cheaper and so much better in my opinion. In fact RRP in the UK they both are around £100 combined whereas the parley is 85 so I really don’t like this release for a few reasons. It’s going to remain fairly full at the back of the shelf I think 🥲
Ballsy video buddy... But from the sounds of it you are not wrong. I very VERY nearly brought that number one pick... Feel like bullet dodged. Cheers!
I would really say so personally! RRP you could get the port ruighe and the 10 for a similar price to the parley and it’s the worst of the 3 so it just doesn’t make much sense to me. Haha I like to make these honest but probably quite controversial videos, honesty always, could never sit on the fence. Excited for your stream tomorrow!
I agree. the Machrie Moor pricing is weird and cask strength is so much better
🙌🏻
I'm just glad you didn't recommend Laga 16. What a sad whisky thats become (haven't had a decent bottle since 2013). Too many Hipsters watching Ron Swanson 😂. Do yourselves a favor and try Kilchoman or stick with Ardbeg and Laphroaig.
😂 yeah especially with the recent price hike it’s had too. Used to be £49 here now it’s nearer the £80 mark, definitely overpriced now
Lagavulin 8 is reportedly a good dram but I haven’t tried it yet so can’t comment. Visiting Islay in Sept so will be much better informed after my 4 day research tour…😉🥃
Surprised about the Talisker as I’d seen positive reports on that. Thanks for the heads-up.
Ah that’s great! Enjoy it! I’m definitely going to start thinking of doing trips next year, let me know how it goes! I’ve actually recorded two of my whisky wars with the laga 8, one being against the 16 and another against another 8 year old islay so keep your eyes peeled for that one, I should be posting them in the next week or two. hopefully that will give you some insight into that bottling but it won’t be as helpful as your… “research” tour 😂
really didn’t get on with the talisker parley, for the money I really recommend giving that one a miss and I prefer some cheaper taliskers over it by quite a margin
@@WhiskyWars 👍😂
I agree about Laga 16, it just feels olddusty and tired, nothing of the fire I used to appreciate about it in the past.
They really should give more information about their whiskies, no NAS but honest age statements, are they so ashamed of what they are putting in it?
That would be nice 👌 it seems so or they’re afraid that stating the age would result in fewer sales
BOWMORE 15!!! The worst whiskey ever. Expensive, horrible spec and 0 quality. Water, caramel, wet barrel, etc. Biggest scam on the whiskey market!
Fair enough! I must admit, that was one of my first bottles and I haven’t touched it for years
@@WhiskyWars ISLAND is not ISLAY I know I know - but I couldn't stand it... I think what you present here are far, far better than the Bowmore basic core range (12,15,etc.). Of course, he can also make good whisky, but at a price that is not ordinary. I wish you many good whiskys.
Same to you, cheers! 🍻 🥃
