Moreover, some Arcane fans insist that Silco is truly the main hero of the show and have lots of reasons to prove that. From this perspective, Vi is the main villain, who dedicated everything to destroy the hero out of selfish reasons, anger, revenge, etc. (Silco's story is all about forgiveness, while Vi's about revenge - who is morally better?).

You are just bias simply if you think Vi is a villain... Vi story from the end is to protect and reunite with her sister however that didn't happen right? I think a lot of people don't really get the psychology of it. She's disassociating hard from the accident as people do (she's most afraid of being left now that she's messed up again, as we've been shown she has attachment issues and self worth issues only supported by what Vi thinks of her). Later in the council archives (not the show) she's writing "all my FAULT" or stuff like that in her diary.
There's also people who take a moralists approach to the show who end up missing some of the nuances for the sake of being on the heroes side. Automatically deferring to Vi as she's the character with the most protagonist treatment who all intensive purposes messes up in the least bombastic ways (Vi makes the most bad choices this first act but is able to punch her way out and get a conclusion in her favor so the fact that it was a bad choice cancels out) and don't fully understand the intention and outcome situation they had going on in the first act.
Along with how the shows framing demonstrates the the focus on physical strength (the ability to cause harm) in the undercity with her. Episode 2 there's the whole alarm systems that she creates in both the Last drop and the arcade hideout. These contraption have her insignias and the clapping monkey so we know they're hers, but the show never focuses on them and how useful they where (especially the one in the last drop). The focus is instead on the fact that she isn't physically capable, not capable to fend off the enforcers on her own, or hold on to that pipe when hiding. The framing and characters all hype up the ability to do harm with the others fighting or with Powder's gun skills. The times the show suggests Powder herself as capable is when her inventions don't defend or warn but do harm. With the explosion in episode 3 her face of achievement and the music as eerie as it is has this undertone of accomplishment like at last "Powder's done damage" finally. I just really love when characters perceptions of the world and of them selves are so ingrained in the community and environment it makes their POV's really interesting and would help in understanding her later... mentality.
The show is purposefully showing what is valued in the undercity and what isn't (its a large part of both her and Mylo's inferiority complex's that would end up feeding on each other) which ends up making Powder afraid because of the importance put on fighting in The Undercity and her current incapability's means that she's of no worth. So she has the need to prove herself but like all children (she's in the range of 9 to 11 years old) she doesn't comprehend the consequences fully nor the truth that she's to young to be ready. She has runt of the litter problems with having the need to compare to her much older siblings.
I feel like it hurts not only the viewing experience but the understanding of the show by playing sides. This is true of any TV show or movie, but especially this one.
edit: Powder saying "she is not my sister anymore" is the same as Vi hitting her and calling her a Jinx. Its her acting out of fear and some anger and in the end it isn't really meant. Its said rashly out of emotion.
Add on about episode 1 with Powder throwing the load I was thinking about the fact that she like 9 or 10. She can't outrun him (she's cornered), she can't fight him she's young and weak, he could quite literally kill her or worse (SA). All she could do was distract him with the valuables and try and disappear (Like the John mulaney money clip joke). A lot of reactors expected a kid to beat up a near adult and get upset when she doesn't and throws the load (they're to use to superhero kids in cartoons). They value the haul over the poor kid. I would be glad if my little sibling choose themselves over some junk.

@@pugisherpug4366 love this analysis, completely agree. I get the complexity of the situation can be confusing, but it’s sad how many ppl don’t rly consider Powders mindset at that moment. She very clearly does blame herself for it later on, she’s just still processing everything at that moment. Vi is easily seen as the more morally convenient of the two, so it’s just easier to pick her side over the “villain” despite the context. Although there are ppl who hate on Vi for the slap, so idk works both ways.
Anyway both characters went through hell, and I blame neither.

    • @pugisherpug4366
      @pugisherpug4366 Před 8 dny +15

@@wqrblersnixx8054 It makes me think of this thing in America where kids end up shooting loved ones. I don't blame a kid who doesn't fully get the weight of the gun or death itself but the parents for leaving the gun out and so accessible that children can get them. I don't even blame her for the warehouse since none of her active choices led them to go there (the most she contributed to them going to that warehouse was clumsiness with the gemstone in episode 1). The only real active choice she makes in the first act is going to the warehouse with the bomb to help which is just sad as it did all but intended.
The whole slap is a situation where she shouldn't have, but it's understandable with how much she was feeling (it's as simple as that). The people who got on her over that I get in the sense that I wouldn't hit a kid over something unintended no matter the mistake, but full on hating her for something done out of an influx of emotion (again the psychology of it) is too far (she was like 16 or 17 when this all happened). It's more concerning to me how many people thought it was JUSTIFIED and GOOD to slap Powder over something she did not intend to happen and is already going to weigh down on her (I've seen a lot of these recently and I worry for those peoples siblings and children with that abusive mentality). Using the whole she told her to "say away" thing as justification to villainize Powder and endorse hitting the kid that just accidentally killed her family. She thought she could help, she thought they were in danger and going to die, who would listen and sit still thinking all that? Especially as a kid (9 to 11 years old again) who doesn't understand how bad things can get, who thinks they know what they're doing (but like all kids doesn't know what they're doing).
At the end of the day, Vander and Silco were out there as grown men purposefully trying to kill each other over opposing opinions. Both when Vander tried to drown Silco years ago and now with Silco tried to kill Vander and his family.

You got a lot of Powder in you. The erratic outbursts, the simplistic caricatures of characters. The immediate willingness to condemn an already deeply irreparable traumatized child that just in her mind lost her entire found family AND her sister abandoned her (she doesn't know Vi went around the corner to process her OWN trauma)
You're so fixated on calling Silco rat man you fail to understand he and Vander were fighting on the same bridge the show opened on. That Silco wants freedom for ALL of the underground. That Silco is definitely NOT a good guy but his goal IS noble. That a person like Sevika (the one who lost the arm) who was already shown to want to fight for freedom in an earlier episode would protect the one person she sees trying to organize something, anything that gets them closer to freedom. That Silco and Vander were a found family just like the 4 kids. That Silco's facial reaction (He literally went from stalking her not just like prey but BAIT, to genuinely trying to comfort her) when Powder vehemently denouncing her sisterhood with Vi it is literally his Trauma around Vander and he being reflected back at him through her words (Pay attention to the Eyes the animators do an inhumanly good job of capturing micro expressions and micro movements related to human behavior).
To be fair I get WHY you are chatty the way you are my wife is a bit like that and she had a bit of some of the similar visceral reactions to the show at this point.

It IS that serious though, we saw the monster kill Grayson and Benzo in seconds. The worst thing that could happen was life or death. Powder is a traumatized kid, who has attachment issues. Because she messes up, she’s always had a fear of being left and self worth issues (which are only supported by what Vi thinks about her). Vi gave Powder her, basically saying she was going to leave and take the fall for them (which is why Powder was very sad walking into the bar to Vander), and when she came back to go fight Silco, Powder immediately hugged her. When crying out, “Why did u leave me?” Powder was talking about Vi & the Enforcers, but Vi made things worse by saying “Because you’re a jinx. Mylo was right,” turning Powder’s self worth upside down and Vi not being her sister, but becoming just like Mylo in her eyes. She needed a new support system, and Silco (trying to manipulate Powder to give Vi up & then kill both of them) was a person right in front of her to attach to, who lost his “brother” in Vander and had an entire support system.

If it makes you feel any better, there was no possible way they were going to escape. Claggor opened a wall up on... the second floor. Moreover, Deckard could have just caught up to them. A wounded Vander and some kids? No shot they'd outrun Silco's goons out of the city.
Silco won when the kids showed up. He even had an alibi for their demise ready to go. While very tragic, Powder's intervention is the only reason she and Vi survived--or else they'd all be dead.

Yeah, A lot of people don't understand shimmer despite already being shown how fast and strong it makes an individual (Deckard was weakened by the blast). Nor do they understand the narrative use of false hope with breaking the wall. Silco knows where they live but he wanted to have that alibi, that plausible deniability in his involvement with their disappearance as to make it easier for him to control The Undercity (less protest than if he killed them in broad daylight). If he simply just wanted them dead or lost his patience with them escaping he can just make an army of shimmer hulks to hunt and kill them and do it all by force.
At that moment shimmer was the most powerful and controllable thing in both Piltover and Zaun (Hextech itself wasn't fully realized enough to combat it yet), they wouldn't have made it with how much of The Undercity was secretly in Silco's favor or control. People really think 3 teens and a beat up adult could climb down 50 ft or so (the first 10 to 15 feet down having no place to grip) and outrun the Hulk let alone multiple.

6:08 The thing is that it IS that bad. It didn’t quite dawn upon me on my first watch, but the way Vi was acting pretty much implied this was a life or death situation. Powder could lose everything again - this time including her sister. For someone already incredibly traumatized and with a deep fear of abandonment, this is the worst thing that could happen to her - especially when she feels so powerless to help in any way (both due to her young age and poor socio-economic circumstances, and incredibly low self-esteem derived from years of being bullied and underestimated). As someone with BPD myself, I related to Powder to a disturbing level.

@@ilikepineappleonpizza4257 Yea, going to have to agree with you both. I was intrigued with the first two episodes because it is nice to see people come around to find Arcane to be worth while. But this show is not a surface level production. Maybe it will click in the editing of the video or on a second viewing, but if she is going to utterly dismiss Jinx and vent the blame enterally on her... that is a bit of a low blow even if it is just a fictional character.
I got the impression from the content creator already that I don't think her personality and mentality is going to line very well with what thus show does. There are now teams. Everyone is their own "bad ass" in some way. And while she is mostly doing okay reading some of the characters, she is taking massive misses on several too. Not just Jinx.
Notably how she spoke about the Police Chief. A tad uncalled for in the comments made but at the time I just dismissed it. Silco even, though I get it because she has not seen his story to its finish yet. The chick who saved Silco. I can not remember her name for the life of me but I do think the political problems of the undercity were a bit of a miss to her too despite saying she understood what she meant when she called Vander out.

I love your reactions. But i still have to say this.
Powder is not delusional, she has mental problems.
And the mental breakdown wasn't "only because she was told to sit this one out", its that she is being left alone with the fear of losing the people she loves (again). People temd to forget that she lost her parents, just like vi did.
I dont want to spoil you so this is where is stop with the details...
And please dont forget that she doesn't know what happened on the inside.
She saw a pretty blue explosion and flew with a plush bunny out the window (or the part before that), and she is just happy that a bomb worked. Its an achievement for her and something she was expecting vi to be proud of.
Thag vi isn't proud because it killed everyone, isn't an info powder has or gets. Vi is just mad at her for (in powders eyes) no logical reason.
So she askes "why did you leave me", thinking vi is reacting that way because she came while being told to stay. The answer "because you're a jinx" sadly feeds in the idea "i was left because im not good enough and mess everything up"
Anyways, i cant wait for you to see the rest of the show ^°^

Yeah, that reaction wasn't great. I understand this is a knee jerk reaction but I'd love some of her thoughts after she's had more time to think about it

@pugisherpug4366 Sadly I have seen people saying she's a terrible sister, toxic etc. But I agree, they're both children forced to grow up too quickly and put in an awful situation, and it's unrealistic for most people to say they'd do any better under either of their circumstances

Finally a team Vi girlie, everybody keeps blaming Vi for having a reaction to her whole family being unalived by Powder, like??😭

girl powder was like 12 and it was an accident and i get vi was mad but abandoning your own sister is crazy but either way there both traumatized and they both made mistakes so lets not pick teams

@@charleeharris4730 did we watch the same show? Vi clearly needed a moment for herself to think after literally watching her whole family die, as soon as she saw powder was in trouble she went back quickly af. She did not just "abandon" her for the sake of it

@@paulaalvarez7844 yeah i understand she didnt mean to but from powders perspective she did and vi should have told her that she needed a minute alone instead of just walking away without saying anything bc obviously powder would think that shes leaving her
