    Best Cinnamon video for newbs like me I've seen. Now I will first need to learn to install youtube on Linux so I can go through these step by step once Linux is on my system. "Linux for Seniors" that's me! Win 10, support end date, Oct 2025 time for this 67 year old to try Linux for the first time... Liked & subscribed!

    Thanks for the Mint 22 info. I guess I'll wait, hoping for an upgrade path from 21.3.

    Great video! I would like to know, you recommend suspended or sleep mode for laptops.

    • @linuxforseniors
      @linuxforseniors  Před 24 dny

      Well it's something that can be kind of touchy, example if one puts unit to sleep or suspend mode and your menu and panel is blank or black , most will shut off and restart computer . I have many times mentioned this fix ... the keyboard trick press (Alt + F2 then enter small r ), to Reset Cinnamon not the computer ... thus avoiding shutting down. These glitches do not happen on all units (computers). I see these glitches more on Nvidia GPU's . Another way to restart cinnamon is keyboard ( Ctrl + Alt + Esc) keys. Enjoy....

    Thanks for all the Linux tips. I may have missed it in your other videos, but what is that time and calendar widget on your desktop? I really like that because I'm always forgetting what day it is. Lol.

    This Mint also runs fine, easy and fast to install although it seems a bit heavier.
    Xonotic do not show up in my Software Manager...

    • @linuxforseniors
      @linuxforseniors  Před 24 dny

      There have been several updates to mint install (software Manager) in past weeks, after the first update, I also did notice Xonotic missing along with other flatpak applications, my fix was to reinstall software manager.... not sure that has been fixed , but if you have issues my suggestion is and for anyone reading this, file a bug report on Linux Mint so the developers can check into that. Regards, t

    if one installs mint with the /home in a separate partition then you can upgrade easily without a clean install we have been doing it since last 3 releases

    I tried Linux Mint 22 with the MATE desktop environment on my old laptop (Dell Inspiron N5110, i5 2nd gen, 4GB RAM), and everything works well, including Bluetooth, which hadn't worked for years on Windows 7 but works now. I am new to Linux. Should I go with the MATE or XFCE version, or should I try another distro?

    • @linuxforseniors
      @linuxforseniors  Před měsícem +1

      Both are great, Xfce is considered lightweight. 😀

      As I pointed out in my Video, the mint team has that info, if Clem and his team release that you will know if on previous version.

    Thanks for the excellent video. I am running version 21 and would like to upgrade to 22 but the the mintupgrade tools still points to an old 21 version. Could you please make a video showing how to upgrade to 22 without having to reinstall Mint?

    In Linux mint 22 in folders does not have a Preference to change the background. Can it be done or is there a software package I need to install?

    Interestingly, my wife Mint 21 stopped getting time updates from the web (NTP stopped working). After faffing about for a couple hours with web searches, I just upgraded to Mint 22. Problem solved!

    On my installation of Mint 21 and 22 Cinnamon, I have to authenticate myself many times just to install a single program. I have not found a solution for this on Linux Mint forum or Google.
    Do you have a solution or suggestion to fix this?

    • @linuxforseniors
      @linuxforseniors  Před měsícem

      I don’t know about how many times you are referring, Terminal on a open session, you should be able to install multiple with only one sudo command, if you close then re authenticate its a security thing, when using synaptic it requires it before you open the interface , and can install multiple apps. Software manager open also requires password to install, you want that , otherwise anyone can just install anything including malware. Regards, t

    Would lmde 6 be upgraded to cinnamon 6.2 also?

    • @linuxforseniors
      @linuxforseniors  Před měsícem

      If you are on LMDE 6 currently. There is an update to Cinnamon 6.2.7 using a 6.10.xx Linux Kernel as of 7-26-24 , and the Software manager or mintinstall has also been updated. Regards, t
