  • Enjoy a beautiful and scenic journey up the Bhor Ghat from Karjat to Lonavala on board the Mumbai - Pune Indrayani Express. This video can be watched by itself, or as a continuation from my previous upload yesterday which is the initial part of the journey from Mumbai CST to Karjat.
We arrived at Karjat at 07:23 am and it took about 5 minutes for the banker locomotive to be attached to help push us up the ghat. The bankers were Kalyan shed WAG-7 locomotives (27410, 27319, 27408). At 07:28 am, we started moving again. It took a while as we slowly crawled from the platform to the mainline. Once on the main, we accelerated quickly while crossing Karjat goods yard and some other bankers waiting for clearance. We sped through the initial flat section till Palasdhari station and then slowed down a bit as we began the actual climb. We went through numerous tunnels and curves, winding our way up the mountain. You can continuously hear the vendors in the train selling breakfast. We crossed a goods train carrying railway sleepers going down the ghat just before Jambrung cabin. After that followed a nice stretch of back to back curved tunnels. Shortly after Thakurwadi cabin, a very enthusiastic samosa vendor entered the coach and was claiming that his samosas have guarantee and warranty! We then crossed the Pune - Mumbai Sinhagad Express. We went past Monkeyhill cabin and shortly after, into the longest tunnel of the ghat. Coming out of the tunnel, we skipped Khandala station where a container goods train was waiting to go down the ghat. Soon we arrived at Lonavala, and slowed down to negotiate the turnouts to the platform. The Pune - Mumbai Deccan Queen Express was waiting at the opposite platform. We came to a halt at 08:05 am.
Overall it was a nice and quick run through the ghats, travelling about 30 km and gaining an altitude of almost 600 meters. Throughout the run we maintained a steady pace of 50-60 kmph. I have always enjoyed the train and track sounds on the ghat section, and the problem with keeping the camera out of the window and recording is that a lot of wind sound is heard. So instead of the camera I decided to take the video on my phone instead, connecting my headphones to it, so that the sound is recorded through the mic of the headphones which was inside the train. This helped reduce the wind sounds drastically. It compromised a bit on the visual quality, but overall was still quite decent. Hope you enjoy the journey!

I tell you what Rishad Bhai, I have seen many rail journeys on Bhor Ghat by many railfans on CZcams so far. But this one comes right on top amongst the rest. It is an almost uncut journey. Well done Rishad Bhai. One of your best compilation too. Hats off to your patience and hard work.

great job Rishad. Did you try the samosa? its warranty runs out this month. Good to see retaining walls in the ghats. Loved the track sound, wish yr vistadome clip did not have music but track sound. 40 mins is good for up hill. Lonavla is turning into a concrete jungle. :(

Hahaha, I wish I could have tried the samosas. Thanks for watching! I will definitely re-upload parts of the vistadome clip in real time without the music. So then you can watch it again. Cant put the entire thing though because of lots of conversation happening in the back area.
