- Official Simple Little Life video of: Make - bottle opener/screwdriver/pry-bar thingy. How to make an EDC bottle opener/pry-bar/screwdriver/thingy. I always have shop scrap that I can't bring myself to get rid of after cutting out a knife blank. Here's one of the ways I put it to use.

About Simple Little Life:
This channel has sort of turned (inadvertently) into a knife making channel. But the original idea behind what we wanted it to be is this description below:
Videos on our journey to homesteading. With a recent purchase of a little piece of the Alberta prairie, we're looking to sell our nice suburban home in search of a more meaningful life beyond chasing the "American dream" working for some big company and making someone else rich. It's not about the money, it's about getting the most value from the work I do to improving the life of my family.
Some preparedness, DIY, building quality things with your hands, guns, gear, and outdoor exploration.
Very nice! you should make more mini pocket tool things
The little signs and such are a nice touch to the video! Also it's a great idea for people like us that don't want to throw away expensive scraps if they can have purpose!
+Joshua Lafall-Brown thanks!
WOW . . .industrial machines couldnt have don this any better. A-Grade Product!!!
Making stuff like this is fun and it reminds me of my first year of apprenticeship
Thanks, great vid and awesome pry
Nice sir. So good in quality. Better than buying from market
Very cool idea for those otherwise useless bits of scrap steel👍
+Bridges Cutlery thanks. You and I both know about scrap steel left over eh? Cheers buddy!
Very nice Jeremy, I have a growing pile of scrap, that needs a purpose and something like this was what I was thinking.
I am glad you have this video. My current bottle opener is wearing down, so this video is most helpful for me.
What a great idea! Love it. Quality build that will be around for you grandkids one day. Nice work!
+Life in Farmland hey thanks buddy!
Sweet idea, nice execution. Loved the simple annotations on bits of paper!
That came out great, awesome idea!
I like it. Very nice.
this has become top 3 of my favorite youtube channels. thanks for the great video!
Some day, if i can have the tools!! who knows... amazing video, thx for sharing!
That would have been perfect yesterday. I was cutting some strips off of a 2x4 to fix something at my grandmother's house. The wood kept binding around my saw blades. Having that to keep the seam open would have been great! Excellent use of scrap material!
Cool bottle opener
Chrisse Hermansson thanks
awesome job
You had me at Fat Tire! Honestly, lovely piece of work!
Great video
Cool idea to use your cutoffs for something useful!
This is an amazing Idea!!!
Wow I just made an aluminum bottle opener doesn't work perfectly but it was my first shot. Yours came out great! Strange how I tested mine on the a fat tire too
good design and skill !
Awesome! Nice to see your channel grow!
Nice video and nice project.
Channel deserves mor subs
+SameAndK thank you very much. I appreciate that.
NIIICE! Just made one out of some scrap Stainless steel, I don’t got everything to make it shiny like yours. Just a grinder but it didn’t come out to bad. Found this video after making mine now I want to attempt this one. Good video
Nice use of your extra cuttings. Cool tool. How about a double sided screwdriver. Thanks for the video.
+Andrew Goldstein thanks. Double sided screw driver, now that's another great idea!
Perfect. way to end it on a fat tire. something so satisfying about seeing all those sanders and buffers
Well done l hate wasting any time will have to try thank u again
That's neat, you should try and make your own little swiss army/multi tool knife thing with those small pieces.
Oh, I really want one of them. They look really cool. Pity Ireland is so far away.
Cool idea,thanks !!!
Prince Hussein you betcha!
So as a journeyman electrician one idea is a small cable striping knife, the blade is a about 3/4 wide and a inch or inch and a quarter long, Klein makes one called cable splicers knife. It is one I'm working on as my first knife attempt, but seeing as you have flat stock would be perfect to weld a handle on too.
With scrap steel you could melt it down to make a bar for a knife then forge it to make Damascus steel out of it, it would look cool on a knife blade
I would totally buy one if you made a bunch of them
+Aimee Rasero thank you very much! I appreciate that a lot.
awesome!
Cool!
Very cool idea. Great use of what would be waste material. Best part was seeing that it wasn't a bud light or some similar such near beer nonsense. 😜
awesome work :D
Dude your videos are great!!
+Garrison Hunt thank you very much!
Nice!
+bfgivmfith thanks!
nice i want one
fat tire!!!! my favorite beer!!!
great job
genial!!!
One thing you could do on your next one is make the lanyard hole a hex wrench. If it is 1/4", could use it as a bit driver. Also the bottle opener could be another sized hex wrench.
in this video we see that Jeremy was brave enough to try to give a cat a bath... we also see him create an interesting widget.... that looks like it could also be a fishing lure in a pinch..
+JTD19881369 hahaha! Yeah, I'm not quite that brave:) I was adjusting the cattle waterer yesterday and zipped myself on the barbed wire. At least it doesn't look like I cut myself while making a knife or something. 👍
Simple Little Life I've been cut with every knife i own.. I knew that wasn't a knife bite... but very much looked like those nasty cat claws.. the jaggedness and the irritation around the cut in general
these little projects are great. I'm just waiting till you are down to making a single staple with the leftover steel as the last one.
+tdoc2651 hahaha, thanks! A
Looks beautiful. The only real problem I have with it, is actually the lanyard - a tool with that amount of polishing, deserves a more symmetrical knot on the lanyard. Other than that, it looks great. You could easily sell those.
very nice.
+booshwaa2 thank you.
Very nice video, i like the little keychain tool. Also sir you have good taste in beer.
Good job
+Joe G thank you. Much appreciated.
Nice
Muito bom msm
I want it ❤
Nice job, I use all my offcuts for different things. No heat treat on this though?
You se id be doing this all day but I find my untreated O1 get scratched n dented up easily.
I just made something like this yesterday, great minds think alike I guess, mine has a pocket clip though, but still great build.
+Zane Ripley oh sweet. Pocket clip. That's rad. I'd love to see a picture of it.
Simple Little Life yeah that'd be cool how would I send you a photo though
Zane Ripley email me at jeremy@homestradknives.com. Cheers!
Nice job, I too keep my bits of left over steel as well, I keep thinking I will make an altoid tin knife but have not gotten around to it yet, could you add a Phillips to the other end?
+Shelley Raskin thanks bud! Yeah, a Phillips on the other end would be a great idea... I've never tried to grind one of those before though....
Really like the the idea!
*now I'm standing in front of my grinder trying to sort this out* :)
Nice tool, if I wasn't so far from you "I'm Brazilian" I would buy one
+Tony Tornado thanks. Yeah, that's a far distance. I've been to Brazil once (in the rain forest) when I used to live in Venezuela. So awesome to hear from you! Cheers!
Simple Little Life Oh that's cool! maybe you can come back to Brazil some time, pretty good country to visit, awful to live
Tony Tornado sorry to hear that. Sometimes I think the same way about Canada... but, I guess we make up the country even if our "politicians" suck. so it must not be that bad eh? Cheers buddy!
i'd like to get a couple of it..
Where do I go to find a vertical Band saw that will cut steel. I have a tight budget but i have a feeling that a good bandsaw like that will help
nice scratch b careful my friend...
This is an awesome video, man. I wanted to make a similar tool (but all i have for now is a dremel :p ) and i was wondering if a file could be made on one side of it, do you think it'd be too hard?
Great idea! Have you ever experimented with different tools on these??
+JE 123 how do you mean? Using different tools to make them?
Simple Little Life sorry for the wording. What I meant was have you ever made these but instead of a pry bar/flat head screwdriver and bottle opener, have you made them with other functional tools( e.g. Phillips head screwdriver, seat belt cutter)
And used on a good beer too!
Will you sell there as well? Cheers.
Like it. Dyou have a drawing for that?
Can I get one?
Are you selling those?
any for sale?
A dip in some liquid cold metal blue would probably look good on that!
Or even a heat blue finish on a bed of brass chips (check out Clickspring channel).
very cool! how many dollars are they? I like the name too.
👍Desde donde transmites? saludos desde Ecuador
5:25 mini noose lmao
Ever think of making some carpenters knifes out of scraps that size?
+byron mcmahon I haven't but that's a really good idea. Now I think I might have to try one (or a few) out. Thanks for sharing the idea!
Cool design! No heat treat on it? So is the GoPro mounted to your chest or a headband?
+Tom's Dreamshop Worx thanks. Chest mount. I find it better and (slightly) less annoying movement than head mounted. Cheers!
Tom's Dreamshop Worx I believe that heat treats just harden the metal which is primarily to keep a blade, please correct me if I am wrong tho!
Tom's Dreamshop Worx no, I didn't heat treat this. I figured since it never really has to "perform" and it's quality steel, it'll probably do what it's intended to do without concern for years to come.
(That and the fact that I'm lazy:)
Cheers!
Was that a leather stroping belt you used? if so, how do you like it?
+reelindoormats1 no, it was a felt belt. I would like to get a leather belt but for now the felt is doing alright. Cheers!
Maybe put a glass breaker on the end of that as well???
+Michael K yeah that would be cool. My mind is limited to only a couple of ideas at a time. Although maybe if you whirl it from the cord it might smash some glass? Cheers!
Hey I've got one very similar on my keychain a mini pry bar whick comes in handy. I like your's also... you could make it a subscriber prize but you need a special name for it. How about...A Simple Life Pry?
hi buddy whats the size of this its hard to tell
thanks
No heat treat needed?
can you create a template for it
Can you try to make something out of titanium? Sheets of it are expensive, but if you search "titanium stock" or "titanium scrap" into eBay and go through a few pages, you can find nice chunks that aren't that expensive ($10-$30 range).
+- A13X - I never knew you could search titanium scraps on eBay. That's an awesome tip! Especially the part where you have to sift through a couple of pages. I'm gonna check into it for sure. Thanks a lot for the tip!
Simple Little Life They have a lot to choose from and the price is right. There's this one seller that takes pictures of the titanium against a red background. His stuff is usually the most reasonably priced. My only problem is that I don't have a proper metal band saw so I can't do much with the bigger pieces.
im 15 and im trying to get more stuff for edc what would u recommend
hey thats pretty good a knife (any type) and a flashlight. Those are my go tos. Cheers!
Simple Little Life I cant get a knife in my edc because I go to highschool and they wont allow me
hey thats pretty good leather man does make a TSA friendly multi-tool you should be good with that inside a school and streamlight brand flashlight I'd recommend the micro stream or stylus to not take up so much space in your pockets a watch is a must for me and it will depend if you want to go the urban edc route or survival edc route as to the next items you want to get
That's super, but your rapid paper flipping early on made my head hurt.
+Mr. Dmitri Ravenoff sorry about that. When I'm trying to sort out an idea, it's painful for everyone. (and unfortunately even for the viewers). Cheers!
Do you sell this?
did you heat treat?
+Ken Carse no I didn't. Maybe I should have, but I figured since there's no edge to hold and the rest of the parts are fairly think I didn't need to. Might try it on the next one though. Cheers!
With nary an edge in sight, how am I going to strike my ferro rod?
adhair screw driver tip is a hard 90 degrees. :)
I suppose in a pinch... :)
I've learned a ton from you, and I think a widgy will be my first construction. Unfortunately, I think I'll need a proper milling machine to get the bit driver in there.
how did u get that big scratch
hey thats pretty good barbed wire:(
Simple Little Life oohh that sucks I hope u get better
no heat treat ?
angus kangus its tool steel no need to for those caps
What is that scar on your hand
how a bout something you can take to a standard school
Love the idea. Great video, got to me subscribe.
Do you have a email I can email some knife designs I have I'd like to make
