    Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a potent anticholinergic as well as being a 1st gen antihistamine. Specifically it antagonises muscarinic ACh receptors, and that leads to delirium and reduced consciousness (same mechanism as deadly nightshade poisoning). Combining drugs that are anticholinergics makes this even more likely, so you've likely nothing to worry about now they've lowered dosages! Also, I hope your flare-up clears soon and that you feel better ❤️

    Jackie I'm no nurse or medical person but I do have chronic health issues like you & I just wanted to tell you that I did exactly like you several times, not knowing what I was doing, very confused & didn't remember it. We didn't know for a good while what was was going on. I went to a class reunion a few years ago, out of state, and alone because my husband had to stay home with a foster child we had at the time who was still in school. I thought I was doing better & it was going to be okay to go. I drove about five hours to Mississippi from Alabama, checked into my hotel room, went to the reunion that night but didn't feel good at all. In a lot of pain. Left early went to my hotel room around 10:00, spoke to the front desk clerk briefly, she asked had I had a good time at my reunion & I said yes but I wasn't feeling too good so I was going up to my room, second floor overlooking the front desk area, took my normal night meds & went to sleep. That's the last thing remember from that night but the desk clerk said I came out of my room, looked very disoriented, was talking strange & told her someone was in my room under my bed trying to kill me. Then collapsed on the balcony. She dialed 911 & attempted to give me cpr. When the ambulance arrived I was clinically dead, no heart beat, not breathing & nobody knew anything about me, who to call. They assumed I could be drunk since I went to a class reunion. No alcohol in my blood, no drugs other than what was on my night stand. The paramedic finally got a faint heartbeat & very shallow breathing. They took me to a big hospital there, put me in ICU, put me on machines to keep me alive. Did multiple test, no answers. Finally at 3:00 a.m. I woke up in ICU with no clue where I was or why. By 6:00 a.m. they released me because I seemed fine. Had to get a shuttle back to my hospital, in a borrowed hospital thing because they cut my gown off me when they were trying to revive me. I was so embarrassed to go into that hotel in that scrub top, no bottoms. I packed & drove myself home. I didn't call my husband because there was no use by then. I told you this story because those incidences happened again off & on. Once at home, several times in the hospital. Still no answer. When I finally was put into my local nursing home/rehab center because I had to leave the hospital after 8 weeks. I wasn't strong enough to take care of myself yet so I couldn't go home. I was on TPN feeding for six months because of malnutrition. I had a port in my chest for that & antibiotics. Well finally a nurse there checked my ammonia level & mine was double what it should be. Your ammonia level being that high will drive you crazy, literally. I had become paranoid at times, thought my loving husband was trying to kill me, all from something so simple as a very high ammonia level. The answer to what happened to me in the hotel not knowing anything or anybody. I told this story not only for you, take it or leave it, but others who follow your channel that deal with chronic illnesses. I wish someone had thought of testing my ammonia level months before they did. I came home from the nursing home within 12 days after we knew what was causing my mental issues. This story is much, much longer but I felt like I needed to get this out there for others who follow your channel. Especially if your older like me, it's a problem seniors face who haven't got all the medical issues I do. I deal with Gastroparesis, Pancreas not working, malnutrition, Fibromyalgia, Neuropathy in my feet & legs plus a few more issues but today I'm doing very well, can eat now, no port but I have to have constant medical attention & you deal with people who just look at you, think you don't look sick so I must be a hypochondriac. Anybody else deal with that? I pray for you Jackie, you're so young & I'm 70 years old so it's to be expected right?? I had all these problems years though, I'm just a survivor. The days I use my handicap parking, I don't always but when I do I feel like I need a sign on my back listing all my illnesses & what I deal with daily. All handicaps aren't visible. Well, that being said, I feel like I got a load off my shoulders, lol.

    I’m very worried about you moving to your new house. That is going to be a huge stressor; even though you are super excited about it. It happened to me when we bought our first house. I became very ill. Just go slow and be kind to yourself.

  • @Royalsprincess1
    @Royalsprincess1 Před 5 lety +5

    Oh no. That is honestly not good that you had such a bad allergic reaction that you forgot who you were. I guess things could always be worse is the biggest aspect to take. Just keep working towards finding a balance, and take live by stride day by day. I hope that you are alright. Take care of yourself and if you need a break, everyone understands it.

    • @ChronicallyJaquie
      @ChronicallyJaquie  Před 5 lety +2

      It was not the reaction itself, but rather the treatment. They started me on way too high of a dose for CDI, typically I start low and they steadily increase. My system was just overwhelmed for a bit and Benadryl can definitely do that to you!

    Jaquie’s hospital hair is still nicer than my normal hair 💁🏾‍♀️
    Also two questions I’m curious about:
    1. It was IV benedryl there was a shortage last time wasn’t there? Is that still a thing ?
    2. Are they still not using your fistula ?

    • @ChronicallyJaquie
      @ChronicallyJaquie  Před 5 lety +2

      Lol thanks girl! It was pretty dirty though haha. The shortage has no longer effected me and others I know, but I think there are still some problems nationwide. We have been using my fistula but since I need so many meds in the hospital, I want to use my port. I'm not comfortable going into detail about my fistula because I still become very stressed when I need to use it. It does not hurt, it works GREAT, I love not needing my port all the time. But for whatever reason, I don't feel ready to share about it yet.

I'm having reaction after reaction, and it's crazy. I just discovered I am really hypermobile too, and I've had bloodwork done in relation to EDS and Dysautonomia. I wish you much luck Jaquie! Thanks for sharing and helping me feel less alone.

  • @Velvet
    @Velvet Před 5 lety +4

    Aww dearheart! I literally exclaimed out loud in reaction to seeing you in the hospital again. I talk about you so much that my dad understood why I was upset. I’m so sorry to hear that you’re in the hospital after doing so well. Honestly though, why I saw you going to downhill a week before your Xolair shot was due, I had a thought that this would happen.
    In about 2 hours, I’ll be joining you in confused-ville when I go to my ketamine treatment (which is working!). But I completely understand being so sick that everything is a blurry confusion. It can be scary as hell or completely calm about it. I’m so glad that they figured it out and you’re feeling at least a little better.
    I’ll send good thoughts out into the universe for you to recover quickly & escape the hospital. However, worrying about everything you are suppose to do can cause stress & effect your health. If you can, just rest, relax, & recover & let your body & meds work in their own time to put you back on your feet even stronger. If it’s tomorrow, great! If it’s next week, that’s fine too because Judd & your family will make it work & keep you in the loop. Even if you do the walk through on FaceTime or Skype. As long as you’re healthy.
    💜

      Chronically Jaquie No thanks needed hun. We’re all going through this together! The ketamine treatments are actually helping a lot! I’ve finished my first 6 boosters really, and it’s allowed me to walk again (shakily) without assistance for the first time in 4yrs! That’s a bloody miracle if you ask me! However, we’ll see when I need a new infusion & if we can afford it. No insurance has drain my parent’s coffer over the years.
      I’ve watched all the vids after this one. I’m so hoping that there’s not a new vid because you’re recovering from a successful surgery & even possibly (hopefully) out of the prison! I can’t wait to see you, Judd, & Harlow in your new, first, house! I’m so happy for you!
      Thank you for replying, too. It truly made my day. ☺️ I hope you have a wonderful Easter - OUT of the hospital. I hope the weather on the Gulf Coast is just as nice as the weather we’re going to have here, on the East Coast! 🐣 🐰 🥚 🐥

    Jacquie, thank you so much for sharing your journey. I have been a subscriber for a while, but this fall I got really sick, and got diagnosed with MCAS. I am really lucky to live near the Cleveland Clinic and was able to find a good doctor that recognized my seemingly random symptoms, and although I still have no idea what many of my triggers are, I am taking a variety of Antihistamines which have seemingly helped a bit. Even though our reactions are different, and you deal with much more than me, seeing the way you deal with your good and bad days is really inspiring. It makes me feel a little less alone. It is so hard when most of the time my illness is completely invisible to everyone else. If I didn't collapse because of syncope and cardiac symptoms, I would never have been taken seriously. Thank you for all that you do.

    The move to your first house is a huge event for anyone, let alone for a chronic illness warrior. Don't sweat the walk through punch list, it won't be anything major. All the house systems have warranties. It'll mostly be minor paint and drywall scuffs. Maybe some tile and countertop scratches. But it's so exciting and a big achievement for a young couple, so congrats in advance!

I'm a nurse and I see a lot of patients go throught it during in stays, especially after procedures or when in hight pain. It's not well known because people think it's a thing that happen to elder or elderly people but even teens or adult could have delirium while in hospital. I'm happy that changing medication helped, I know how scary it could be, for you and for everyone around you! Hope you feel well soon and that all your plan for next week will be possible! Hakumei Chan - it’s much more likely due to Benadryl.....and whatever other medications she is taking (pain and anti nausea meds)....delirium doesn’t usually happen after such little time in hospital and it is much more common in sicker patients stuck in rooms with no windows, or sleeping all day so they get their circadian rhythms messed up....it’s called “ICU Delirium”....

    Hi Jaquie. I hope you start feeling better soon? I know how hard it can be in the hospital. Hopefully they can figure out what's happening and get it under control. I know how much it must mean to you to get into your new home and I know that must be a lot on your heart and mind. I am praying for you. I wanted to let you know that I joined your Patron and I bought your purple Diversity is Beauty T-Shirt. I hope it comes soon? God Bless you.

    I''m so sorry you are back in the hospital. but it's where you need to be right now. Try to let go of your frustrations. It will only slow down your recovery. Let go and let God. All things are possible through Him. That was one of my mom's favorite things to tell me. And I truly believe it. You will get through this and do the walk through and then get moved into your beautiful new home. These are exciting times for you and Judd and Hippo. I wanted to say hello to your mom. I will keep you in my prayers as always. Sending much love your way!

    I wonder what the plan of care will be when you go home? Will you get the necessary meds should this happen at home. Especially since you no longer have access to pain meds, since you've been let go by pain management... This is what shouldn't be happening to those with chronic painful conditions & injuries. Patients should have access to proper medical treatment. This is not the care your getting, you are being denied proper medical treatment for your multiple conditions that require a balance of care. This really upsets me, some of this might have been avoided if you had access to meds needed when you have a flair. May 22 is the next RALLY for chronic pain patients! Held in every state at the capitol. You can find more information here at dontpunishpainrally.com

    To go forward you will go backwards. But you’ll come out with more information on ways to help your health. Take care of your body and if the hospital is where you need to be it’s where you need to be. If you need a break from the camera take it and don’t worry. We will be here when you get back. You’ve been doing a lot which for chronic illnesses will wear your body out. Your body is telling you to rest.
