" The greatest fight song ever"

I saw that list. I know Michigan's Hail to the Victors because I'm a band fan. :)
I would make the point that the Notre Dame Fight Song is probably the most recognizable and because of that would be my pick for #1.

I consider the Wolverine band a top college marching band and yes there are several other top bands which are as good and some are better. I like Alabama, West Virginia, Ohio State, Tennessee.
The two bands I would put at the top of the heap would be Jacksonville State, MS, and Riverside Community College, CA, both drum corps style bands.
Jacksonville State plays drum corps greatest hits while RCC is more innovative and avant garde as the Blue Devils tend to try new concepts using them as a test bed.
It's hard to judge college bands against one another because they have different styles and goals. Most college bands play to both sides of the stadium, not just the press box side where all the rich alumni tend to sit. There are some bands which do a press box side show like a drum corps.
The best bands IMO are the ones which connect with and get their crowd involved. Tennessee's Rocky Top is a great example where the crowd sings along with the band. Loudly. :)

Few people know The Victors is actually a march. The greatest college fight song; not my words but John Philips Sousa. But what the heck did he know.

Great band of course, but compared to Michigan Marching Band of the 90’s it seems the current band is noticeably not as high stepping. Wonder if anyone else notices. Nevertheless, a fantastic band.

It’s a parade in the street, not a performance in the Big House.

Not sure where this was in the parade, but it also could have been mile 5 of the parade, so they'd be exhausted!

@@TheFlawlessGem haha - just a dumb comment by me, I saw them in the 80's & 90's when I attended the Rose Parade and there is a YT video of the Michigan Marching Band in the 1990 Rose Parade - noticed a difference. But a lower step might be their intended style. All good with me - whatever style they use, they are a fantastic band.

MMB member here, the technique has changed since then. The “high step” you mentioned is what we call lock step, and it’s used for a very short time during pregame. What we’re using here, is called traditional step, in which our leg is meant to be 60° rather than the lock step 90°. This was implemented in the early 2000’s, and it helps a lot to preserve longevity and looks cleaner.
