Carlos Sainz Vázquez de Castro has been racing in Formula 1 since 2015. And everyone seems to think he's "underrated". Well today, I'm going to look a bit deeper into this, and try and ascertain why.

As a Sainz fan, there's so many reasons why the "smooth operator" nickname sticks. He quietly goes about it, gets results, works with every team well to unify people, remove toxicity, provide good feedback, develop the car, etc. He's the anti-Alonso! No ego about him, just quiet belief in his ability to get amongst it with the best in the sport, and getting himself where he needs to be through hard work and determination. Main reason why Carlos Sainz has been underrated for so long has to do with the fact that he is one of the most consistent drivers out there, potentially the most consistent imo. For example if he starts P5, he'll most likely finish around P4-P6. Unfortunately this level of consistency means that usually he doesn't provide much action during a race, so he doesn't get a lot of exposure and watch-time during races. That is exactly the reason why he is so underrated. A F1 viewer who pays more attention and detail to each driver understands just how good he is and honestly every team on the grid would love to have him.

Probably not, I don´t think Ferrari will have a car that will challenge for the titles over the next two years. And I do think Ferrari already have decided that Sainz is just a temporary solution until Mick is ready. I think the problem is that Sainz just never has been considered to have had the talent to be a champion, and in terms of natural talent it´s ignorant to say Sainz is up there with some of drivers of the new generation or even the older one. I think where it all changed for Sainz is his determination and hard work when he joined McLaren which he brought to Ferrari. I mean he has established that he is one of the best midfield drivers out there, it is left to see whether or not he can step it up and challenge for wins which so far in his career hasn´t happened apart from the freak show at Monza last year.
Does Carlos have the talent to challenge for wins consistently: No. But maybe his hard work behind the scenes can make that up.

Carlos impressed me hugely in his first McLaren season, maybe it was because of the whole package: McLaren on the rise, Lando on the rise and Carlos on the rise. But back when it was Carlos and Lando, McLaren was just by far my favourite team because almost everything they did on and off track landed well with me. I was happy for Carlos reaching that Ferrari seat but a bit sad at the same moment that duo got split

I'm a huge Carlos fan and it's nice that some people are starting to see his potential. Everyone is expecting Mick to replace Sainz which I think is absolutely bananas given how well he has performed thus far in his first season in Ferrari. Binotto has allegedly already admitted that he wants Sainz around longer than the two year contract he signed and Carlos mirrors those feelings. I think next year we'll see Sainz outperforming Leclerc in a big way.

Compare him to Leclerc and Verstappen, neither of whom are British and get far more attention than him. And its not like Lando and Russell are wrongly hyped up, they're both extremely talented and have great personalities.

@@areebsiddiqui758 Points wise he did outperform but yeah point is they were atleast equal and people say norris is future world champion but i dont see anyone bringing up in sainz in that way.......Dont forget its sainz's first year at ferrari as well (and i kind of blame leclerc for monaco, its basically risk and reward there, leclerc took too much risk but got pole, again did the same and crashed)

For sure he's underrated for the F1 cameras. Great video!
