Boy that brought some memories rushing back. My Dad was an old school flathead racer, ran on the dry lakes in SoCal post war. I am now 65, he passed in 1983 at 56. Before he died we built a 40 Sedan over a 7 year period, this was in the mid 1970's and the aftermarket was nil back then., I remember going through dozens of 97's looking for decent cores, and making our own gaskets, etc. The engine he built is engine is a 1/4 stroker, full port and relief job by an old timer and Joe Reath found us a good cam.
Dad got to drive it one summer, then he was gone...I still have the car...the flatty is on a stand, my younger son wants to build a roadster pickup for it with my grandson at some point. I wish you guys were not clear on the other side of the country.
I have a small stash of flathead stuff...none for sale we will use it...engine has a polsihed OG Thickston intake like the one on your RP, 2 97s. OG Edelbrock heads, Dad polished the Thickstun himself, did the final nooks and crannies with a Dremel tool. Have a couple of OG 3x2 Edelbrocks, one Sharps 4 carb...a set of Navarro OG heads, and almost everything to put a Harmon Collins Magneto together...
Been following for your channel few months now, you are motivating me to get back on the 40 after I get a new knee...The coupe...my dream car but I am too tall. My Dad would fit right in in your garage...keep it up...love your stuff...

. Hi, let me praise you, as an ex Rhode Island body man/race car guy (Seekonk) etc. going back to the '50's, I enjoy the size of the shop. Spent many hours in one smaller than yours. Our "paint booth" was a one car garage with a small brook running underneath. The running water actually sucked the dust down sort of like the factory waterfalls. My message to this video is that I remember for a stock of minor warm up we used no more than 2 97's. I tried 4 once but too much so I blocked off the two end ones and it looked kool but ran fine. This was a 59A with a merc crank. However the best over all combo was a 57 Chev 4 barrel. Ran good, acceptable mileage, and started well in the R.I. winters. Wish I had it back. Paid $50.00 for the 1940 Deluxe coupe and drove it home. Thanks again, George.

Great video and thanks for sharing! That coupe is amazing! Chop? Maybe, but it's such a perfect East Coast/New England hot rod (heavy channel/unchopped)! That was a good Father's Day! Go RAC Garage, keep moving forward!

First time in a LONG time I heard someone actually say they don't like '32-'34 tudors. I thought everyone wanted those since they're the only ones not be repopped or made in glass...

You asked the question " are 4 carbs too much for a flathead? " Yes, flatheads don't flow well so if you have four big holes [ carbs ] going into three small holes [ exhaust ] that doesn't work well.Three carbs were a push for a flatty had to be bored and stroked, two carbs seem to work well with any flathead.
Your friends have some beautiful hot rods and so do you, a beautiful roadster pickup!

Believe it or not. Four 81 carbs are less cfm than three 97 carbs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I need to buy carburetors for my flathead and don’t really have experience . Would 3 81’s be a better choice than 97’s . I wasn’t even aware there was an option

Are these 4 carbs really worth the cost, and hassle. Does 4 carbs really add that much to
performance? Do they need constant adjustment? Sometimes more may not be better
Just asking because I do not know that much about flatheads and performance. I know it
looks like real eye candy....but worth it? Got to have deep pockets for these 4 carbs. 😮😮

    • @Lanni_747

It looks cool. Flatheads and performance don’t go in the same sentence 😆

@@Lanni_747 I have much to learn..does not my eye candy statement and your looks cool statement mean the same? It is my understanding that a flathead engine can get performance. I do not really know.
Share with me your knowledge on just what would have to be done for performance. Thanks.
