  • The ELCO left me stranded. LOL Quick "how to" replace the alternator in an El Camino. Very easy to do. Comment below if you have any questions. Cheers!

    i'm pretty much cartarded and i bought a '77 elco in 2008. i always wanted to have an old car and fix it up myself. figured it'd be a kewl learning experience. i'm a computer guy but my dad was a master mechanic, but i don't know crap about cars. didn't know i t'd be so simple! thanx for this man!

    Is that a smog pump below the alternator? Im asking because I have a 79 that my state says I need, but I dont have injection tubes on passenger side only driver. Where do I run my lines to connect to smog pump regulator? N my belt situation is not lining up either. My manual dont rewlly explain or show pictures

    What you did moving the back case half is called "Changing the clock timing". When you hold the unit with the mounting flange upright that represents the 12 position. Some stores will let you specify the "clock timing" when you order, some won't know what you're talking about. My 350 sbc van engine is set to 3 O' clock. When you move the back don't pull it back more than you have to, or you will have to reset the brushes, it's easy enough, look it up if you have to reset them . it's simple. Just sayin' Mike

    Just did the same alt. replacement on my 87 M.C. SS. Some of these alt. from Duralast have been assembled wrong fronm the factory. I had to correct the clocking on mine as well. You cannot just turn the alt. upside down because there is no way to mount the spacer that bolts to the back of the alt. There are no female threads on the other side on the back of the alt. Hopefully Duralast has crrected this issue!

    Does anyone know where I can get the bracket for my 85 v8 305 Monte. Its lost I can not find it...I doubt I can install without that bracket?

    Just add enough wire to reach the plug in on the new one. Simple fix.

    hey bro nice vid , by any chance would i do the same process with my 81 monte? seeing how most g bodys are the same. my alternator is dead and need to swap it , thanks !
