FYI, Golden Earring wrote and played a song called Vince Taylor, Look for it, you'll like the group and the song. I became a fan of Golden Earring in the early '70s. BELIEVE ME! the only problem with G.E. is that they probably didn't have a good manager, whereby he could have promoted the group in the USA! THEY could have knocked the socks off of many Brits, G.e. was a Dutch band. I own all of their cuts.

This guy was the inspiration for David Bowies Ziggy Stardust album.
The song Rock and Roll Suicide is 100 percent about this guy.
He took so much LSD that he lost his bloody mind, and couldn't be trusted to perform when booked, because he lost all concept of time.
He wandered the streets mumbling to himself as he grew old.

To me, the guitarist really tried amping up the guitar licks to what would become heavy metal. They were playing as heavy as the amps would allow. Imagine if they had ozzy's broken orange amp from black sabbath. Which did lead to distortion heavy metal.

At the time, "what I say" was a popular cover tune that most club bands in Europe would perform. It was a real rave up tune. The Beatles also had it in their sets sometimes stretching it out for 20 minutes. The main reason Pete best lost out to ringo was he couldn't play the song's beat correctly and ringo could nail it. They used the same beat later on "I feel fine."
