Grew up in 60’s era KW’s, Pete’s, and White Freightliner. There is nothing better than old TRUCKS!!!! My dream has always been to restore a ‘54 kenworth conventional. Closest I got was when we bought a ‘71 KW, but we have restored a ‘62 Pete, ‘72 Pete with a ‘76 cab, and a ‘68 Pete. Two butterfly hoods, two wide nose.... My dad passed several years ago, so now I’m starting on a 1974 COE Peterbilt!! This will be a bit bittersweet? I don’t know, but I’m painting it in the old Harris Transportation Co from Victorville, CA, in honor of the men who founded it, as well as all the great men who drove for them, teaching me so much about TRUCKS!!! Thanks for the video!!
Thank you Steve Leischuck (Owner - Stockyards Livestock Hauling Co. - Denver & Henderson, Colorado) - for the many memories I have riding in your bull nose KW tractors with my dad in the 60's hauling livestock for you - God bless you Sir+++
I have owned and driven a 2001 T-600 Studio Sleeper. It had a C-15 6-N-Z Caterpillar and RTO 13 speed and 3:73 Eaton rears. Had 300,000 miles on it when I got it on a loan assumption pay off. And paid the remaining balance off .Owned it from 2003 to 2014. 1,550,000 miles when I sold it for $12,500.
J B Hunt is the company that shipped our engines from the Navistar International engine plant in Melrose Park Il to our truck assemble plant in Springfield Ohio plant in the 90s
@@genejackson4261 I always called them long nose and owned my first one in 68, a single axel Brockway which I later stretched and put a Mack twin screw under it and upped the eng to a 290 cummins .
an amazing story the company town of Kent Washington is named after the founder and is south of Ranton next to it is Worthington Washington which is also named after the founder with the company offices in Bellevue. Kenworth pulls all of the road trains in the Pacific Northwest and hauls the logs. Owned by PACCAR the two companies merged with Pete in 1972 and PACCAR build both Kenworths and Petes in Seattle.
The difference between old cars and old commercial trucks and municipal vehicles is that old commercial trucks and municipality vehicles were consumed to the last mile and then scraped.
Cabover Pete with a reefer on, and a Jimmy; haulin Hogs. We's headed for Bear on the I-1-oh bout a mile out of Shakey-Town, I sez Pig Pen; this here's the Rubber Duck and we're about to put the hammer down.
The all wheel drive Kenworth readymix truck I drive is pretty near indestructable. It's going on fifteen years old and 250000 miles. Getting good parts for it is a problem though. The ones the company I work for get are cheaply made in china. They say a road hauling truck is considered broken in at a quater of a million miles. Concrete trucks are just broken. LOL
No doubt Kenworth makes a good truck, but for a tall guy like me the seating position is not comfortable. I worked for a road construction company hauling equipment, with a Kenworth with a 460 Cummins and 18 speed Fuller trans. My back was always sore and the safety officer sent me to a chiropractor after she saw me walking across the yard looking like I was in pain. The last truck I drove before I retired was a Pete and it was nothing but comfort and style, as tough as a Kenworth but comfortable.
Just a minor correction, it was John Ken and Bill Worth that started the company. Their Johnbill truck line went bankrupt after a couple years since people thought the name was stupid so they consulted a marketing agency and after several months of research came up with something way more catchy "Kenworth" And the rest is history.
Yes. They own both Peterbilt & Kenworth. I don't know what to think of the Paccar engines. White Autocar were some of the toughest vocational & class A trucks I ever drove. Kenworth is just another name on another box now.
When did Kenworth stop being world's number one? Replaced by the much better handling, driving and much better fuel economy of Europe European trucks like Volvo, Scania, Mercedes and M.A.N. Yes I have driving KW, But I have also driven the much better Scania and M.A.N trucks in NZ, around Europe and the U.K.
I am having my first experience with a Kenworth. It's a hunk of junk. It's built in Mexico like Kenworth has been doing for decades. And you can tell. Volvo is the king of the road. And built in Virginia.

In the 1970’s we had the K100 cab over bunk series ..powered with Detroit V12 Engines @ Shell Oil Canada ..... they were a licence to fly !! 😉
Kenworth is the old truck & bus in U. S. A 1917 or 16 on World 🚛🚛 company 👍👏👏
I’ve driven them all and my favorite remains the KW W9. The worst...freight liner aka “ freight shaker”
kenworth simply the best no matter if it's a cabover or a hood
Cab over or a hood?? Kinda dumb shit is that?? You mean cab over or a conventional. Lol. That's like saying camaro is good trunk or hatch 😂😂

Micheal Reynolds really? How many have you owned and had to work on after hours to say this? None
Ken is worth more than Peter is built. So says PACCAR
joe boo good one.

And in Chillicothe Ohio, if I'm not mistaken that's where the bulk of the trucks are built at.

Personaly i'd prefer restoring a retired Mack fire truck instead of a car but i'm lacking in space.
I have driven Pete's KW's Internationals volvo's my favorite is the KW........

My dad had a kw900 tow truck with a v12
no matter what you are in debt for, they'll all get the money per loaded mile.
Worlds best and always will be!!
t880 the worlds best? lol...... it's ok i guess but nothing to brag about. paccar engines the best? hardly
It actually started in Tacoma....... Along Hwy 99 (South Tacoma Way) near Pine St.

The w925 is where it at. But the w379 not so bad of course
Cabovers came in use because of length laws
Cabovers preceded length regulations by years.
K-WHOPPER...😎
W900 to the end I do miss the catterpiller carry on.

What about the t900 and t950 t904 and t908 t909
you mean PACCAR trucks in the modern industry …..
Yes. They own both Peterbilt & Kenworth. I don't know what to think of the Paccar engines. White Autocar were some of the toughest vocational & class A trucks I ever drove. Kenworth is just another name on another box now.
@@Satchmoeddie i own a pete but if it was 1975 i would own a autocar my self
Seth B which years for White Autocar?
@Seth B which years for White Autocar?
BS commercial. Worlds best truck and still you don’t see a single one in Europe. 20 years behind European trucks.
Yeah, see, thing is Europe really doesn't matter.
arghh arghh arggh.......
Kenworth 💪💪 but you dont see kw firetrucks or busses no more. Nore are they built to the exact spec of the buyer no more
Is It no more or any more?
No sound!
Русские есть?
no
Still can’t beat a Scania
Scania, Mercedes. MACK, russian URAL and MAN are my favorites because of their quality and reliability.
Ford Mac Diamond T and I'll West you got your big three if you don't pay too much brouhaha make money for the boss what were the bosses

@Ronnie Southwell Parked under a tree! Nothing beats a M.A.N truck.

And both made with foreign junk. Your point??
Or maybe cause you can't can't shift or drive a real truck cause you use to driving an automatic and holding that steering wheel 😁
@@genejackson4261 My point is I know from my own personal experience that KW is a big step down from Volvo in quality. Are your feelings hurt?

HaHaHa. Nope. Firat on the scene of an accident thats Scania!!
@Mr Sunshines Ok, that's where KW wins?
