The draft started at 3 o' clock in the morning Greece time and obviously I was sleeping. When I woke up, I saw that we took JJ and said, that's great, let's see how much we paid... I came here to watch the draft party and I realised by the title that we took also Dallas Turner. What a pleasant surprise... KAM really cooked this offseason... A huge SKOL from Athens (Greece)

THAT was an EPIC draft. We went in thinking that they were going to trade 3 1sts for Maye or whoever. When Rosell got to SD's pick I got nervous. I was sure the Giants were taking JJM. And then they didn't! Then it's wtf is happening will Denver jump up? And then the rumor about Atlanta taking a QB? And they take Penix ROTFLMAOOL! And JJM falls to us when we move up 1 spot without losing 23! Then we move up from 23 to get Turner! This draft couldn't have gone any better! KOC got his wish as did Flores!
2 Days later and I still have chills watching the announcement of JJ McCarthy pick!

This felt like 2011 all over again. I'm not comparing McCarthy to Ponder, but the situation. An early run on QB's and the Vikings get stuck with what was leftover. McCarthy was probably their 4th QB, but he was the only one left when they picked and they only had Darnold/Mullins, so it was a little bit desperate, just like Spielman in 2011.

I've been telling everybody for over a month we were not going to have to give up 3 FRPs to trade up for McCarthy and I got ridiculed for it. I've been telling everybody that Bo Nix will go 12th in the draft and got ridiculed for it. I deserve an apology. Will I get one? I doubt it.

My guess is they had plan 1A and plan 1B. They liked two QBs but had their preference.
Jefferson may not sign if McCarthy wasn't his first choice
He's basically stuck in Minnesota or retire the next 4 years so he can either play with the QB they put out or call it a career. He has 1 year left on his deal, then the 5th year option then can franchise him the following 2 years

So the first round is essentially a replacement draft. McCarthy replaces Cousins and saves, at least for several years, approximately $30 million, Turner replaces Danielle Hunter, at a lesser savings,but still considerable. KAM has done little to make this a better team. Run defense? Forget about it. Offensive line, forget about it. When does the team get better? The owners are making more money, what do the fans get?

Every team’s draft every year is a replacement draft in a roundabout way. There is nothing new there dude. The trade up to 17 was perfect. McCarthy is in an amazing situation to succeed.
It never made sense to me why JJ was mocked to go in the top 5. No college production and no elite traits. The NFL felt the same way apparently. Could end up being a competent starter, but most likely a career backup.

All things considered, things worked out well for the Vikings, they didn't have to give up 3 firsts for McCarthy like I thought they would, so they got Dallas Turner and kept their 2025 1st ... but this clearly wasn't plan A. Plan A was to trade with NE at #3 and take Maye. Calling the Giants bluff at 6 was super risky knowing Penix went to Atlanta at 8. So it could've been Bo Nix or nothing had the Giants taken McCarthy. I think Kwesi got really lucky, and he gave up a lot for Dallas Turner. And McCarthy still isn't the answer.

The draft was going good until the front office panicked after Atlanta picked Penix. Which is another reason why, when there is free agency tampering (Cousin's/Falcons trainer) that the verdict shouldn't wait a year. We then gave up too much draft capital to move up to trade with the Jets and the Seahawks. Except for pick 108 in round 4 this year, we don't have a second, third, fourth, or fifth round pick for two consecutive years. This screams Kwesi in panic mode trying to get quality picks even if it means getting only two or three a year. We barely got two starters from the 2022 draft in 2022 (Ingram & Chandler) and two more in 2023 (Addison & Blackmon). So, I guess McCarthy and Turner would meet Kwesi's two starters a year average. This organization totally ignores the interior offensive and defensive line weaknesses! And has done so for years and years! Our scouting staff is beyond horrible! Skol Vikes!
