  • Let me state the obvious. Tesla is currently the best EV maker out there, however, there's always room for competition! This Polestar 2 may be one of the most compelling competitors yet and with an 'Android' powered infotainment system, it certainly gives a unique experience, even to a Tesla! It gets about 230 miles on a charge, has 408 horsepower, can fast-charge in about 40 minutes, and has tons of storage. The big question is; Is it worth MORE than a Tesla Model 3? Let's find out!

      60+ for slightly better interior and far inferior performance and real world testing? I hope those recalled cars get resolved in less than 6 months while the engineers figure out how to actually build real evs. But if Im gonna risk buying a 60k untested low performance ev without supercharging Im just gonna save and buy a new or even second hand S or X and call it a day. Don't mind me, just a trolling Tesla fanboi.

    As a 6,3 tall Swede that lives just next to the Volvo factory in Torslanda, I see these cars everyday. However, the interior is tight and I feel cramped in it. As the Tesla model 3 and Y is it’s competition, I prefer the Teslas for the space and how they have designed the dash and so on. And I haven’t mentioned the charge situation but that won’t be a problem if you use it around town and not plan to go on really long trips abroad.

    The seats are that high, so you don't end up with your knees up your ears, like in some other evs. The tunnel is part of the shared platform, but also meaning, that you get more leg room, as in most cars without tunnel the floor raises higher, impacting your leg room (knees up your ears).
    Focussing parts of the battery in the tunnel can improve your leg room, as mentioned before, so the tunnel doesn't have to be a negative point, if you consider the better leg room.

    Tesla has voice commands that do everything you did in this video (and much more). The only difference is you press the right scroll wheel to activate it instead is saying “hey Google”. I’m not sure why, but it seems like Tesla’s voice commands are overlooked by pretty much every car reviewer. Anyway, I enjoyed the review. Keep up the great work!

      True, I think I’m just used to google assistant? It’s also neat because I can turn on & of light at my home from the car, set reminders that will transfer to my google home, and fun things like asking what an elephant sounds like lol. Definitely not overlooking the Tesla voice commands but this does feel a tiny bit more natural. That being said, I wish all of this was a bit cheaper because Tesla is still going to be the value EV purchase, especially when it comes to their charging infrastructure. This Polestar 2 and upcoming XC40 Recharge have massive potential though!

      To be more precise, the cheaper version is something they want to release next year. Rumors aplenty that it’ll have single motor and probably no sunroof. We‘ll see how it turns out.
      The Polestar 2 in this video is the launch edition (base price $59,900) with the Thunder color (+ $1,200) and optional performance package (+ $5,000).
      Other options not on this specific Polestar are the ventilated Nappa leather seats (+ $4,000) or towbar hitch (+ $1,200).

    • @nrutasder7266
      @nrutasder7266 Před 3 lety +2

      @@SwannBus I dont think the company is crap, I just think its years behind even being considered a worthy EV competitor. As Elon said everyone will catch up with technology eventually, but by that time they wouldve perfected manufacturing. This means, lower costs, better reliability and performance, best fit and finish and most importantly to them, more vehicles produced for a very long time. This matters. Calling model 3 fit and finish mediocre felt like @lakerfanjr is taking a shot at Tesla. I'll let it slide, but I'll do my fanboi service by pointing out the higher costs and significanlty lower performance you're also inheriting. Tesla has already been through production hell, while Polestar is currently going through theirs. Tesla vehicles are a solid decade ahead of the competition theyre being compared to on various metrics like performance, technology and production and are steadily increasing that lead. Something you indirectly pointed out. You'll only buy one of these polestars to support the manufacturer, to be different or because internal quality is more important than reliability and performance to you. Just like how some ICE vehicle lovers will still buy gas powered vehicles because they sound better and are "fun" to work with... Again, you'll only buy an internal combustion engine today if you dont care about increased performance, versatility, price or the environment, as EVs are as of Tesla battery day, clearly superior.

    The best Tesla competitor? The same Polestar that lost 40 miles of range from their specs after the EPA test results were returned even though they have a bigger battery pack than Tesla?

    • @rikh8796
      @rikh8796 Před 3 lety +3

      EPA test results are just an indication, they’re not real life use. Teslas are optimized for that test, but usually won’t make that in real life. The VW ID.4 or Porsche Taycan on the other hand have a ridiculously low EPA range, but easily surpass that in real life.
      So yes. Depending on region it’s in a similar price range as Model 3 and the Polestar 2 offers something other than Tesla. Not everything is about hard numbers, but sure keep harping on some EPA range.

    • @cyclopsvision6370

      @@rikh8796 The EPA test is a standard test that ALL manufacturers go through that is supposed to use a common set of test conditions, to prevent auto manufacturers from using their own testing methodology. If Polestar or Porsche underperform on that test, that's on them, they were aware of the testing conditions ahead of time, and still underperformed.

      “Tesla experienced a similar issue with the Model 3 early in its life, and the problem stemmed from the 12-volt battery. In Tesla's case, simply replacing the battery would get the car up and running again, but there's no telling if that's going to do the trick here. According to a report from InsideEVs, not all of the 2s are showing 12-volt issues. Further, some owners get warnings from their vehicles before it shut down, while others aren't.” -Roadshow
      Tesla is a marvel, no questioning that.....but pretending that it had smooth sailing at it’s launch (and some would argue today) is not true. Why are all the “T” people coming out against a car being compared to their car. Is Tesla a car company or a religion or political party? All EVs Matter!!!

    • @nrutasder7266
      @nrutasder7266 Před 3 lety

      @@SwannBus this is precisely my point. A lot of people and manufacturers are pitting themselves against Tesla as Tesla killers when they dont even have real world experience and testing. All cars will be EVs eventually, but by that time Tesla will be best at manufacturing, meaning lower cost highest quality. We still need people to buy these type of electric vehicles to test them and give the companies money and support for their R&D, but to pretend theres a comparison between the vehicles companies like Tesla and Lucid is a joke! If Elon wants the nicest interior and materials in his vehicle, trust me he will get it done. For 60k on a model 3 Tesla will give you guys gold plated steering, interior and accessories along the finest performance!!!

      xLift Nrutasder precisely my point, I don’t think Volvo/Polestar markets itself as a direct Model 3 competitor. Journalists are pitting them against the other, when I think we should be happy that someone (anyone) is joining the EV space. To me, it just seems like Tesla is the new Cummins and you better not talk smack about it lol. When in reality, competition makes the consumer win. I’m glad the model 3 exists as a benchmark, plus it’s made in America. I’d like to see a push for all manufacturers to expand into this market. Petrol is on the way out. I don’t think you’d be happy if everyone drove a Tesla, regardless of the cost.

      Saying autonomous “none” while Tesla supposedly has it is cherry-picking and misleading. Tesla autopilot is still Beta software that barely does more than what most adaptive cruise control + lane assist combinations offer. And yes I’ve driven with it.
      Also the Polestar 2 “warranty” in the comparison is completely incorrect: www.polestar.com/us/service-and-assistance/car-warranty/
      Here’s another equally unbiased comparison. Quality control: Polestar 2 EXCELLENT, Tesla NONE.
      A car purchase isn’t based only on the arbitrary metrics presented in this table. Sure you go buy and enjoy your Tesla Model 3 SR+. I’ll be enjoying my Polestar 2 just fine tyvm 👌🏻
