I learned this song for my great grandpa Dodds.
I have fond memories of singing old songs like this with my grandpa.
I was so excited to send my cover of this song to see his reaction. But unfortunately he passed away a few days before I uploaded it to CZcams.
And now as I listen to the lyrics of this song it brings so much sadness as this song is saying goodbye to someone you loved and wishing they could stay with you a little longer.
I hope he can hear my version of this song in heaven and I hope I make him proud.
Grandpa, I didn’t get a chance to tell you goodbye, so this song will be my goodbye to you, I will always strive to be more like you every day as I grow. I love you.

I remember that song as child. Because the Red River runs through Manitoba we have always considered it a Canadian song. ☺

Wow...this is an oldie... “Red River Valley” was first recorded as “Cowboy Love Song” in 1925 by Carl T. Sprague, one of the first cowboy singers from Texas.
