How to prepare canopy landing pattern

  • Most important is altitude of 200 meters. That's not only accuracy decision when you're watching strength of the wind. When you have proper distance from landing area than you can check traffic and you can easily avoid canopy collision. One of the biggest mistakes is flying downwind and making 180 into the wind. You can see nothing from behind.
If you have time, read this article about not necessary turns: www.skydivemag.com/article/sto...

I hope it's helpful for beginners. Of course it could be better to have 360° camcorder. I have a plan for such movie 360 to let people watch more

How do you judge more accurately what your groundspeed will be on the final leg. When on a large floating student canopy without the use of instruments?

By facing into wind over a spot on the ground and then estimating how far you travel into wind from say 600m to 500m altitude and comparing against known lengths from Google satellite distance measurements of eg runway length, field length you have memorised before jumping then that will be approx where to start your base-leg, how far downwind to go initially beyond your target landing area. Higher wind speeds mean maybe hardly moving into wind.

I compare the distance it travels as I go down in relation to the nearest fixed points and to the other skydivers who are on the approach line.
