  • In the early 1950s, offshore drilling was largely limited to fixed platforms and there were few mobile platforms operating.
    Against all odds, Mr R G LeTourneau overcame the challenges in the oil and gas industry to build the world’s first jackup rig, Scorpion, in 1955.
    The mobile, self-elevating offshore drilling platform was delivered to Zapata Offshore Company of Houston, which was headed by future United States President, George H W Bush.

    It's amazing what you can accomplish if you believe in yourself and work hard. RG LeTourneau had an amazing journey going from a building contractor to an innovative manufacturer of heavy equipment.
