Okay, for so long now I have heard Naomi talk about how German and American pickles are different! As an American I’ve been soooo curious what a German pickle is like, and wanting to try one since Naomi thinks they’re so good! Today is my day!! I found German pickles at my grocery store!! I’m so excited!!!

@@poppetangelGerman pickles are less sour and a little sweet, but not as sweet as american sweet pickles or bread and butter pickles. They also usually have more complex flavor from having more things in the brine, like black peppercorns, red pepper slices, and garlic cloves.
That's been my experience with the german pickles from Aldi
The ones I got almost tasted like if a dill and a sweet gherkin had a baby! Really yummy!
Best Before is actually not expired. That just means they will taste their best before that date. I had always wondered why they wouldn’t put expires by on everything and then I found out that some things have a longer shelf life, but they lose their flavor or taste after that date. Expired usually applies to things that have an element that will rot. They may need refrigeration and have dairy in them or no preservatives to sustain their shelf life. That’s why people don’t generally get sick from old cereals or preserved foods.
I should add that the best before applies to unopened foods. Such as bagged cereals, closed chip bags, etc. As long as they’re closed it shouldn’t bother your stomach or make you ill. Just check the ingredients.

In the Philippines you absolutely mix sweet with cheese lol. One popular bread is ensaymada. You put butter on top right out of the oven so it melts and then roll the buttered top in sugar. You top with shredded cheese (usually a mild cheddar or white Kraft cheese). It's very good!
