    My PC used to run this many years ago. Guy who installed it was a friend of one of the creators of this. He said they created this because they wanted to make an ultimate XP disc that would already have the drivers and software for people's pc without having to go trough the trouble of installing them yourself - back then not everybody had internet yet and it was easier for them to have everything already installed without an internet connection

    I still dual boot my computer with Windows 7 and Windows XP. I have a lot of old versions of software that just wont run on anything newer than XP, the software I have does what I need and I don't see any point in paying out for a new version when the old version I already have already does what I want. For instance my copy of Adobe Premiere from 2002 won't run on Windows 7, but runs fine on Windows XP and despite it's age it can do precise and very complex editing, even up to 1080i.

      same, i just don't wanna buy new hardware for every new version of windows. my WinXP X64 edition just works because I once purchased Adobe CS collection, and it doesn't work adequately on Win7 which will force a compatibility mode on my everyday software.
      on XP pro 64 I have access to all of the 8gigs of RAM, which is a must for multitasking.
      it remains the best OS for productivity because it's not an OS that will waste half of your system's resources.

      What have you tried to run Premier in windows 7? Seems like Windows 7 should have support for something that 'new'.
      Maybe its a different version but some seem to have success with Premiere pro 2

      Interesting to hear. Personally I've never found a software that actually won't run on newer versions of Windows, and I've installed a lot of old random stuff before. Windows generally has excellent backwards compatibility.

    Thanks Michael, another excellent unique video done very professionally. There will always be critics and trolls. The trolls usually just have a dishonest and disgusting agenda. Honest critics provide valuable negative feedback which can be very helpful in improving products, services and Productions like this. I am an old guy and don't do it anymore, but I was one of the first to produce videos like this. But I wouldn't have even tried to produce one like this, on the fly testing the software for the first time. But you pull it off well. Your operating system knowledge and video production expertise is definitely top notch.

  • @Henk717
    @Henk717 Před 6 lety +97

    Michael, you are not very good at installing ssWPI applications :P
    You also removed all the components because if you check the box it will remove the component, so a lot of these tools would now be unavailable.
    The CD had redundant applications so with the ALL button you are supposed to uncheck a few as you opted for 4 different sorting packages. Thats why you had a lot of redundant startmenu icons and it turned out a bit of a mess.
    512MB got my heartbumbing because i was afraid it would crash and throw errors anywhere as the CD was designed for systems with more then 1GB of ram.
    If you pay attention to the pckages you will see 2 really interesting ones, one is LastXP Media Center Converter and one is DirectX 10 for WIndows XP. You may recall that you where installing Windows XP Proffesional which does not support Media Center at all but ended up with a working media center. That is because you have chosen the Windows Media Center Converter that is exclusive to LastXP. Its the script you actually clicked skip on the first time around but was installing stuff in the background when you where trying to type in your name. Obviously the installer was never designed to be clicked away but it was left as an option in case it breaks down, so you aborted the installer half way and then continued it from the CD menu.
    In the end result this means that once the script finished and you rebooted your VM it loaded the modified files you now had a VM that believes its a Windows XP Media Center VM while still allowing things like domain joining from the professional edition. The reason you got the error the first time is that you did not reboot yet so the Windows XP Proffesional unmodified files where still in memory.

    This probably wasn't the best in the series so far Michael. Bad structure to the video. In future maybe run through it so you can get a feel what apps are there and how the thing runs generally.
    We don't need a live blind play through dude, rather have lots of info on most/all of the goodies contain within each OS.

    That's pretty dope, but playing Devil's advocate, what really separates all those extra features from bloatware? Yes, the transparent title bars for windows are neat, but does it really add to the functionality of the system? I'd also be slightly concerned about security vulnerabilities that might come with a modded, 3rd party version of windows XP. Really neat, regardless, though. Might be fun to use on a system you don't intend to bring online.

    How does LastXPv22 "RTM" (Released To Manufacturers?) compare to the standard XP SP3?
    I'm interested in running an XP 32-bit program that requires the dot net framework and the visual c runtime libraries.. is there a way to update the live image, install the programs, then save it so that it can be used anytime I boot the usb?
    If not, is there another program that could be used and modified? Hirens MiniXP (WinPE 1.0)? Winbuilder? AOMEI PE Builder?
    (I haven't been able to find BartPE which I understand is also XP based)
    Alternatively, can the XP app be made 'portable' so that it doesn't need to be installed everytime I boot into XP live? Evalazer, thinapp , Cameyo ,Spoon Studio, Turbo Studio , Enigma , P-Apps? Since the application uses the lan port, I'd prefer to not use a VM.

    I personally wouldn’t dare install that old XP version 2002. There is a newer “XP version 2003” that’s based from Windows Server 2003.

    Why are you installing drivers from driver packs on a virtual machine? It(vm) has its own driver disc. On vmware it’s called something like “vmware tools”. On hyper-v it’s called integration disc or something like that.

      I had that one to at the time I sent this to Michael, but they made it less interesting. They made it look more like Vista, the iso is less stable, they did add adobe photoshop and MS Office but the cool theming options are gone and in general it was just less interesting than this more flashed out LastXP 20.

    The thing about it is, will it run on modern hardware fine? I know trying to find XP drivers for some new stuff is impossible. At least Linux gives you an easy way to still use that old hardware that was once very expensive and yet still functioning to this day. I mention that because I have an old scanner which there are no drivers for after XP. It is still a working scanner but I can't use it on Windows 7 or higher (I tried and tried). It is nothing more than planned obsolescence, they stop writing drivers and your only choices are to buy a new one or code a new driver for it if you are able to (much much much easier said than done!!)

    • @K9arcade
      @K9arcade Před rokem

      It would probably run your scanner drivers fine, but then again I've noticed this one of the more fiddly custom installations. I myself use XP black edition(it's 32bit) as it's really light and smooth, or use the regular XP if you want to get a 64 bit version.
