This is one of the best watercolor demonstrations I have seen. You not only showed how you painted this specific scene, but more importantly you gave us an awful lot of more general information that we can put to use in our own painting. There was so much packed into this video that I took notes for future reference. I will be watching all of your videos now. The time and effort that you put into this is very much appreciated as I am a beginner and can use all the help I can get. Thank you very much.

It is very generous natured of Andrew Pitt, to go to the trouble of setting up recording equipment and editing and then offering his time and expertise, skill and talent essentially for free. For the love of his subject and the benefit of the rest of us. Thank you Sir. Such actions are the stuff which demonstrates an aspect of human nature which shows that in all of the greed and madness there is still the quiet voice of sharing and sanity.

I suffer from anxiety, and I'm also quite perfectionistic so I tend to be unaccepting of my flaws and shortcomings. Andrew, you explain everything simply and clearly, but best of all you show us your palette and water pot in action. THANK YOU! To see all that water and pigment happily sloshing around and then this glorious painting appear is invaluable, and so often left out of other demonstrations. Watercolour is challenging enough without not being able to grasp the essentials right at the start. I think most beginners would probably not have imagined so much water being used. It’s a very generous thing you’re doing with these videos, sharing your decades of learning here. Your DVD was one of the very first teaching videos I bought on my art learning journey and is still my favourite for how much information you share in it so clearly.

Thanks very much Caroline. Very kind. To make the videos we fix two cameras - one above the painting, one above my palette - and Rachel moves about with a hand-held camera. Our son is the secret, magic ingredient. Simon, edits the films to produce a coherent video. Quite a time consuming task. He quickly decided the most useful approach would be to, as he puts it, “follow the brush”.

I have recently got into watercolour painting (bought my first paints and brushes this week - I am still yet to buy a "large brush," though :) ) and I watched some tutorials, did some painting with rather unsatisfactory results and CZcams suggested me this video. Extremely educational! I learned a great deal about colour mixing from this. Thank you so much, Sir, for your videos! You're an amazing artist and a great teacher :)

I got emotional by this video, thank you Andrew. You are a great artist. My dad used to paint and he made a painting to me when I was young. He left this world when I was 14 and the only thing that I have is a photo of the painting. I love watercolor as media and wanted to try reproduced my dad's painting in watercolor version, but I don't really have much experience using it. So, I went in CZcams to look at some tutorials and came across your video. I wish my dad could be here and teach me some techniques as you did. Thank you Andrew, you won a new subcriber!

Just started using water colours in the art group I go to - looked for a video to help learn about it and out of all of them watched this one first - very glad I did and I've learnt a lot from it - it was good to see the colours being mixed as well as the picture appearing bit by bit - really enjoyed it and was mesmerized from beginning to end :) - thank you very much -

To me it's very difficult to let go the perfectionism of shapes and details, seeing you paint so freely but still not losing sight of where things are, impresses me and truly speaks to me of your artistry and mastery. I will try to 'let go' a bit more, maybe I can start evolving and finding a new voice like that.

Thanks for getting in touch. It’s difficult for me as well. I think the ‘trick’, if that is the right word, is to forget things and paint shapes of tone, with a variety of edges and with credible, attractive colour. Genius. Watercolor artists are to be respected and I hope I can study with you through your courses. Painting with watercolor, one needs to have great skill, because there is no blending, as in oil painting. You, basically, need to get it right the first time. That's how I see it. "Every artist was first an amateur" - Ralph Waldo Emerson

True. One mistake and everything may be gone! You can't cover up any mistake by painting another layer over it. It also requires great planning because you have to start with light colours first and then slowly build up the dark areas. This is where we may make a mistake.
