Manila - London MNL-LHR Philippine Airlines PAL720, B777

  • Video taken on 10 April 2014 during take off from Manila MNL and landing in London LHR. Flight number PAL720, PR720, B-777-300ER, RP-C7773. Almost 16 hours of the nonstop flight - the longest to LHR and 12500 km in the air - which makes MNL the most distant airport from LHR.
The Internet was working OK except for India where the government bans foreign aircraft from using the Internet over its airspace.
Once we crossed the border (visible from the air) into Pakistan - Internet returned.
India is like North Korea, ha ha.
Currently the flightpath is shorter and the flight last 14 hours over China and Russia.

Elizabeth Reign Castillo Well said. 👍👍👍 sadly, the Philippines is always lagging behind the rest of Asia. Regarding the population, it is going to increase to 150 - 160 million. Sigh. The pinoys will be living on top of each other and more will seek work overseas to be abused and exploited. When will we get our act together? Maybe never.

You'll always curse the chaos that living in Manila and its suburbs gives you on a day to day basis. But at around 1:29 onwards, when you see the cars nicely passing through that street, as the plane's about to depart to some distant place, you'll still feel peaceful but get a bit sad. Dama pa rin ang pagbiyahe kahit di naman ako yung bumibiyahe. Kudos to the pilot for that nice landing in Heathrow though. Haha.

What’s the comfort like for people taller than 1.80?
How is the noise level inside?
And I wonder why they took the long way around. But it’s good they are going the shorter route now (essentially following all other flights passing HK to Europe).
How much space have you got to take your meal when the one in front reclined to have a nap?
And what was the cost for this flight (or the value for money)?

i have just come back to the Philippines from London heathrow and i did not enjoy the flight at all, and i do this journey quite often as i live in the Philippines and England, i think they are using different planes now from when they first started this London to Manila, the plane i was in had no leg room, we had no TV monitor of our own, instead we were given an ipad with a flat battery, and nowhere to put it, and the food was rubbish.. I think the plane was totally unsuitable for a flight this long, and many people were moaning the last time i done this journey which was 3 weeks ago.. I enjoyed your video very much, but i think Philippine airlines need to stop cutting corners as these flights are not cheap. Thanks for the share... Carl...

***** Really?!?! Swapping a brand spankin’ new B777-300 for a decrepit, old and fuel guzzling A340? What was Philippine Airlines thinking? I’m really sorry to hear about this, and I’m sorry that you had put up with an experience typically Filipino - brand new, topnotch quality to start, followed by a precipitous plunge to indifferent or deplorable. It seems that we’ve always had difficulty delivering what we promise consistently, over time.

I mean how could you endure a 16 hr flight without any entertainment???? Im so disappointed now i tried calling them and asking why would they downgrade this flight if it is the longest in their flight plans, hayhay.

    • @fact7ho
      @fact7ho Před 9 lety +5

Talaga? Cheers for letting me know Billy Roan.
Sadly though it's the same old story with the Philippines, glamorous on the outside but inside reveals a different story because instead of starting small and playing it safe, they aim too high, beyond their needs. Before I go any further I'd just like to say that I am half Filipino (and proud to be Pinoy) and I go back there every year. When PAL introduced their 6 new B777-300ER I was delighted, but as soon as I heard they would all be direct flights I immediately became pessimistic. In the past both PAL and BA terminated this service because they simply couldn't compete with the other airlines. The Philippines is isolated from the rest of mainland Far-East Asia and this is the problem. As stress free and convenient it would be to fly non-stop and directly from Europe to Manila, it wiould only work on an occasional, non-frequent basis. I can understand what PAL were trying to do but to go all out from scratch doesn't make any business sense especially in the airline industry, There's just simply no logic to it. What they thought was, by flying all the way direct they would use that as their USP (unique selling point) and they would save time and money and avoid having to pay airport taxes and fees. But those costs are pittance compared to what they could earn by stopping in places like Amsterdam, Stockholm, Frankfurt, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, Jeddah, Hong Kong and Singapore. Think of the revenue PAL are missing out on from all the Balikbayans, returning expats, tourists and all the cargo. They could enter the competitive market and offer cheaper fares, this would work because the aircraft is destined for the Philippines anyway. This could also open up opportunities for MNL being a transit hub to other parts of Asia, Australia and USA.
Anyway, this is just my opinion, I want PAL to be a leading airline but as I mentioned in the first sentence, play it safe and progress instead of aiming too high beyond their needs. All the hotels in Manila are another example, nice and brand new to start but then they just deteriorate - Just like the B777-300ER service being replaced by the A340-300.
