    My hats' off to a very lively performance. The key point I would make is, this is a textbook example of the very highest level of video editing I have ever seen. Compare this performance with any other and pay attention to the visual experience. This is a joy to WATCH as well as to listen. Every instrument is showcased at just the right moment. I love this piece, as well as much of Prokofiev's work, but the attention to PRODUCTION DETAILS, like the camera placement, the microphone placement, and finally, the work of the editors, made this a memorable experience for me. Thank you

    Fantastic performance. Both the conductor, the musicians and the videographer didn't miss a trick. A fabulous combination of all the elements: Audio, video, and acoustics.

    What a performance! This conductor is not only very adept, he is also very likable and he knows how to inspire passion and confidence in the orchestral. I felt the performers were really enjoying it (most of them anyway)! Bravi Tutti and thanks for sharing! This is my favorite rendition to date (and I have heard a great many)! BTW good sound engineering too!

    A terrific performance of one of my favorite works. I join the previous commenters who have praised the video editing, which is especially enjoyable and helpful in a performance of a work by a master of orchestration, as Prokofiev is. The editing helps a listener and watcher understand how Prokofiev did it. In my view it is far better to watch a performance on a video (with good sound) than to listen to a recording. I also have to say that with these videos I gets to feel like I know many orchestra members, even though I am far away, and it is very gratifying to see them recognized, as here, by the conductor after the performance. I also noticed that when Maestro Shokhakimov was offered a solo bow by the orchestra he declined to take it and instead continued to express his thanks to the orchestra until it stood again. Very nice.

    I hear some of the influence of music from Cinderella, especially in the 3rd and 4th movements. In the 3rd movement, that beautiful slow waltz that Prokofiev loves, as well as that wonderful crazy clock at the finale of the 4th mvmt. Great performance! What fun!!

  • @drgustavbakter4735
    @drgustavbakter4735 Před 4 lety +11

    Lovely rendition, very intensively capturing the charactyeristic frisky Prokofiev sound. Despite his youth, Shokhakimov displays very clear ideas and a firm grip of the orchestra, which seems to be in great connection with him.

    What a superb performance, in particular the adagio! The fortissimo section toward the end of that movement was enough to raise the dead. Conducting by Shokhakimov, orchestra, sound quality, video quality - all wonderful. Best performance of the 5th I have had the pleasure of hearing. In some Frankfurt Radio Symphony performances, the percussion can be somewhat intrusive - a technical sound engineering issue, perhaps. But, if so, that's an advantage for the 5th - the shade of Prokofiev would be pleased in this instance, I'm sure.

    Music is great but in addition the video editing is the best I've seen on a CZcams orchestral work. Most frequently the video focuses excessively on the conductor and often fails to be focused on a particular player when it should be. This one is near perfect. Kudos!

    The only greater symphony i think I've heard is Brahms 4. There is so much musical imagination on display here. Lyricism brilliantly coupled with a complex clock, always moving fwd, always surprising and delighting as it goes.
    And some of the very best scoring in any orchestral work.
    I can't put it above Brahms 4.... but my God it comes close.....

      Well I love it too but am tardy about hyperbolic statements about greatest symphony etc.
      Too many in that century. For eg: Prok's 6th is considered his greatest and I would say IMO it captures the pain of that century more so than his 5th, great and all as it is.

    補充:最後的視覺焦點是由天雲際線移到海面上,遙感(向後瞥看)天雲際線日落的光芒!?

    Dieses Werk is so genial, dass ich fast non stop Gänsehaut bekomme. Und muss sagen: dies ist ne ganz tolle Aufführung. Mit wohl einer Ausnahme: die Stelle - ab 32:22 - diese kosmische Stelle, wo sich andere Welten aufschließen. Mensch, die Sechstolen beim Klavier sind doch viel viel zu laut und konkret. Und dabei ist es nur die Begleitung. Die sollten nur so flackern, wie so n Klangteppich. Denn dieses ehrliche "taka taka taka, taka taka taka" macht doch die Magie dieser Stelle total kaputt. The brilliantly gnarly, and also beautiful polytonal part at around 4:00 is...interesting. I have always been unsure what exactly the emotion is supposed to be at this point. Which isn't a bad thing, I wonder if potentially it's just meant to be two different emotions felt almost simultaneously, somehow. Lots of powerful ambiguous, and also at times ambivalent emotions throughout the whole symphony, but it is also elegant and structurally very strong, composed with a great sense of logic throughout.
