I work at starbucks and the reason why it is bitter sometimes is when the shots come out of the machine, they have maybe 15 seconds for them to touch milk or syrup before they "die" which is when they start tasting really bitter. sometimes if the barista isnt paying attention, they pour dead shots into the drink instead of pouring them out and pulling new ones and thats what can result in a bitter tasting coffee and thats why sometimes its not always the same. if you always want to ensure that it tastes good, ask for it upside down. thats where they put the shots in first instead of on top and they go straight into the cup. same exact drink but upside down. tastes way better!
