Agree Sam, it’s important for beginners to have a low action, so many cheap accoustic guitars come with very high action making it impossible for small fingers to manipulate and almost instantly putting off learning

Well... it's all about preferences really. I would have preferred a lower action on my lousy Satellite 65T back in 1979... but I struggled on anyway with a mile high action. My customers have at least one thing in common: they want a lower action (but without buzzes, chokes or slaps etc).

Hello Sam! If people would just question LIFE a little, why am I doing this or what would it be like if I were somewhere else at this moment, then I think a lot of things would change in no time!! It's wonderful to listen to you, it also gives me a lot to think about now!! I'm turning 55 in a week... (OHMYGOD)...🤔
    Thanks for these words, Sam..

Came for the setup. Stayed for the existential affirmation and taking on board the power of now

Thanks Scott - Power of Now was good... I think his 'Stillness Speaks' was even more useful for me (I had it on audio book). What I like about Tolle's speaking / writing is that it affirmed a way of understanding things that I had arrived at - plus it gave me some great new concepts that I can use to make my life more rewarding / happier / simpler / richer on a day-to-day basis. I sometimes call it Buddhism without the exotic foreign cultural references.

As always playability is paramount, a guitar can have a great big “M” on the headstock but if I can’t bang out cowboy chords for 2-3 hours without fatigue then it’s just a piece of wall art. Meanwhile I’m off to Exeter to buy another Bristol by saga acoustic. If the first fret action isn’t around point 2-3 mm then it’s going straight on the work bench. Set of 10-47 elixirs and ready to rock.

Im doing a setup on my new Epi 339 this week. Too bad it needs a new pup switch first. Way too common on Epis.

I totally agree with you low action is definately a preferance and I completely understand it. I personally dont like very low action i like it pretty much "factory height" which is somewhere in the middle because I play mainly blues and being able to mute strings while playing one or 2 notes is a big part of that style and doing that with really low action is very difficult, not to mention blues quite often is played cleanly so you need a lot more dynamics aka you need to pick hard and softly and doing so with really low action is going to cause some buzzing when you pick hard which can be really annoying at least for me, some people tolerate it which is absolutely valid. lot For beginners a fairly low action is really important since their fingers are still soft and doing anything on guitar even holding or sitting with it properly is difficult so why make it harder for no reason?

Some people like to fight their instruments. Sane people want them to play comfortably.

I like what one of the greatest guitarist said about string action, why make it harder? More hard to play!!! 😊😊

True. All my life I was subtly under the influence of a 'real men play 13s' mentality... like I felt ashamed to prefer 9s? Ridiculous. Sometimes I even fit 8s these days.

The sunburst pattern on the back next to the neck is very poor, just a vertical line up the back of the guitar.....dissappointing.

You made me go back through and have a look - and you're right. A straight line. Yuk. I've not seen that before on a 339 to be honest but yes, it's a pretty stark, unsubtle straight line with a bit of a fuzzy edge.
