Lyrics:
Gold man bites down on a silver tongue
Takes a deep breath and blows the candle out
He knows the truth but he keeps it to himself
Here it is
You can only save yourself
Only yourself
When we bite the dust
We will hide our cuts from the world
When you’re in the dirt
You don’t show your hurt to the world
Cold man, white knuckles on the wheel
Well it’s all just there to steal
You just gotta take it
Take it like the harridan you are
It’s the time of the almost rain without you
I am in debt to night
And gone to earth for love
And I, a shadow
And what of us? - Hudba
What a day to be alive.
Dios existe !!!!

So TRUE :D
A moment of silence for all the fans who couldn't make it to listen to this.

Porcupine Three
Absolutely gobsmacked. My mind is spinning!
I'm 68.... I've heard OF Porcupine Tree and Steve Wilson but never HEARD them until about 4 weeks ago..... Ever since I have been mainlining them... Live, documentaries.. promo clips everything I can voraciously hoover up.... Where have I been all their life....!!!!!!!!!
I’m right there with you bro. I’m 65 and heard P/T for the first time 6 months ago. Totally addicted. Kick myself for not hearing them earlier. Steven do another album and make a stop in New England. Only band I must see b4 I pass on.
@@TuscaloosaTidalWave I'm with you on the "I need to either see Porcupine Tree or Steven Wilson" b4 I shuffle off this mortal coil.".. I'm even prepared to travel to the UK if I have to.. It’s a deal. I’ll chat your ear off, as I’m sure I’ll be blown away. Cheers my friend
This album has a high dynamic range (DR 12), it introduces no distortion, and listening is not fatiguing. Turn up the volume on your system/device to experience the benefits of dynamic mastering.
This is an album worth spending your money on.
Let's reward the band's, the label's, and the sound engineers' choice of dynamic mastering and buy the record!
Wide dynamic range, both in mixing and song structure, are crucial (to me anyway) to making music enjoyable, and I _very_ much appreciate that about PT
Gavin is a monster, and Barbieri adds that subtle atmosphere that gives me the goosebumps.
Agree
Barbieri's soundscapes are back on the menu boys
That's a big part of the Porcupine Tree 'sound' which is really unique for the broad range of sonic scapes the music inhabits.
LOTR. I see what you did there
Agree.unique
Barbieri’s creativity knows no bounds. Put him together with SW, the result is always explosive.
"sir" Gavin Harrison is a pure architect
And this is the example of pure architecture 🙌❤️

Cualquiera que lea esto, quiero que sepas que tienes un gran gusto musical.

Right back at ya!
"Hmm this doesn't sound very PT"
3:22 OH BOY THERE IT IS LETS GO
Definitely reminds me of HCE but Porcupine Tree's sound is all over this.
Yessss 🤘🤘🤘
Oh how I missed Barbieri's soundscapes. Back with a vengeance.
Barbieri had also done solo stuff.
Eight minutes of glorious, semi-heavy progressive rock. To be followed by eight months of waiting for the full album.
I KNOW. All I am worried I am gonna listen to this way too many times.
Surely there'll be more singles 🙏
Worth it!!! It's PT. Something we though was forever gone. Patience grasshopper
...to be followed by 8 years before another one comes out 😅
@@marcop1587 we waited for TooL 😂
Finally at last, Steven Wilson doing what he does best, in his best band.
Can't believe we had to wait this long for Steven and Gavin to play together again. Chemistry from outer space
Wilson and Barbieri are what come to my mind. Harrison wasn't PT drummer in the beginning, and I have to say Lightbulb Sun was one of their defining albums. I'm a little bummed by the fact that Colin is not with them, but fuck I'll take Porcupine Tree any day.
@@jarihalonen9642 I know only a few, but Lightbulb Sun is fantastic and certainly defining for them. Signify introduced their sound and talents to me back in the 90s. I was blown away by it and practically convinced they were aliens warning humanity what was to come. I was young and high. Anyway, I've always felt that album was the most cohesive lyrically and in the way one song flowed/evolved into the next. Brilliant.
"Steven Wilson doing what he does best, in his best band"
Definitely yes.
I want to argue with that but nah, I can’t. This is it.
Gavin Harrison has to be one of the best drummers around, incredible performance.
Metronomes use Gavin Harrison to keep time...
Saw him with King Crimson and ohhhhh man it was a great day!
He is. He's also getting the awards for it.
For sure, best prog/rock drummer today.
Having gavin on the drums lets you leave not needing a lead guitarist playing a blistering solo in the middle somewhere thats how good he is :-) (barbieri defo helps by adding those fundamental soundscape layers).
I guess ABBA reforming was all Steve needed to see!
I've never heard him called Steve, j/s.
Steven saw it the day before you came funnily enough. 😆
I fucking laughed my ass off!

this is the best Steven's vocals have ever sounded
For sure, he has pushed himself. His vocal growth is obvious here
"It's the time of the almost rain without you"
It's these bits of purest melancholy now and then that make Porcupine Tree for me.
That breakdown teleported me back in time to my first time hearing Anesthetize, what a band
Love your reactions !
I just watched your video last night and I’m so stoked they’re back!

Gavin Harrison. Wow.
How freaking good is this song guys wtf???
Bass, drums, guitar parts, Richard's soundscapes, Steven's vocals, composition, arrangements, production... omg everything is top notch! And most importantly, The Porcupine Tree DNA is HERE.
who is on bass. SW?
@@kurtis4572 I almost sure it's Steven. It sounds somewhat like his bass work on the The Holy Drinker.
@@kurtis4572 I think it's SW. I dislike the tone and if this is anything to go by, Colin's tone and groove will be missed.
It is Steven, the official PT website lists production entirely by the remaining trio. Shame we probably won't see Colin joining them.

Fr so far for me I got The Mars Volta at #1 and PT right after at #2, only two bands that captivate me or some shit lmao
Welcome. I was like this in 06 when I first heard them on WSOU pirate radio NJ. Blown away. Out later that day buying 4 alums I subsequently wore out
Am I dreaming?
These guys have good solo projects and alternative bands, but they work best when they're together.
So glad they reunited for an album
PT , Opeth and Tool are few modern bands that could come up with 8 minutes song but still feels quite short :D
Exactly
Those are my 3 favorite bands…😁
I have to remark the obligatory "new Opeth sucks". Sorry about that.
The holy trinity
Add the Mars Volta to that list
I'm aware that Steven Wilson has gone under rough times and depression. From albums like Fear Of A Blank Planet, it was clear he portrayed many of these feelings. And this video, just, perfectly reflects what derealization and depersonalization is. There's this common saying, that it feels like you're watching your own life being played on a screen. You know you're there but you don't feel there. It hits like a cannon ball but it's indeed a piece of art.
"My family and I are quite «cold», and we do not feel extreme emotions. Those who know me know that I’m always in a stable range, that I never became overly happy or overly depressed. It does not mean that it is not sensitive: I am very emotional, and you can notice it in my lyrics. I did meet people who suffered from depression, who had those thoughts and even killed themselves … but suicide is something I do not fully understand. In my lyrics I always tried to address things that I do not fully understand, being serial killers, depression, religions or terrorism. I try to write songs to discern them. That’s why suicide appears so much in my subjects: because I do not understand that impulse."
Doesn't seem like he's writing from personal experience.
@boudewijnlamper Well, they put depressed people on psychotropic meds, which erases impulse control and... well, ya know. They act impulsively and exit stage left.
@@boudewijnlamper That's very interesting and cool, though it may be somewhat rare for an artist involved in music at worldwide level to never experience an emotional or mental breakdown.
Thanks for sharing.
You are wrong, Steven has never been in depression. You have to read his book, he thinks that he had a pretty good life so far. You have to dissociate the artist from the person itself to understand him
It's criminal that this still doesn't have over a million views
Didn't expect me to have an ugly cry at 10am on All Saints' Day over a resurrection. Yet here we are.

You can recognize this Gavin's drumming from a mile. So fluid and so groovy. One of the best out there, for sure.
The way he makes odd time signatures flow so seamlessly is unparalleled, and the transition between half time, double time, from 5 to 6 etc are so so smooth.
He’s really the quintessential contemporary drummer.
I had totally the same instinct when I heard this new track, when IA came out I was already a PT devoted simp lol, I really loved SD and LBS but let's face it IA was out of the galaxy! That CD was a game changer
Also his snare sound
Gavin is a unique talent. My top-3, maybe even the top drummer of mine
One of the most recognizable drumming ever. No one play like that.
Didn't think I'd ever see Porcupine Tree back together! I had accepted that they weren't reforming! What a song!!! 😍 😍 😍
That drum fill at 6:48 omg
Noticed it too. One of his most intense and well constructed ever! ;)
As a drummer who is learning this song I can say that this fill is actually not extremely difficult as it’s mostly rolls and/or 16th/32nd notes. But furthermore it is difficult because of its timing. On starts on beat 5 and extends to 1 of the measure after. Furthermore it is hard physically because it is fast and goes immediately into the chorus groove which is relatively hard anyway.
These kind of fills when he’s performing live, at first, turn on: surprise me because most of the time he plays it live a tad different than on the album. Tune in: At second it makes me tighten up because it sometimes feels like he’s not going to make it to the bridge in time and makes me think: how in the héll are you going to fix this, Gavin!!! Drop out: And right at the moment where he weaves his patterns and lifts the song to the point where they all get together again, I get the chills because I feel relieved and exited at the same time. Really, this working man makes my senses go nuts during a live show! Brilliant and I 💖 it. Can’t wait to hear this song, but most of all PT, live again.

@@davidgormley7990 I already do. I play this song quite regularly while I practice :)
The mixing on this instrumentally is fantastic. When the heavy hits it’s brutal but pristine clear too, especially the drums. Love Gavin’s sound.
Love how the kick drum and low bass notes are perfectly lined up during the heavy hits, to make it sound so brutal.
In addition to the amazing composer he is you realize he's an even better engineer/producer.
this, my friends, is what has been lost in music industry in general in the last decades because of Loudness War, and is called DYNAMIC RANGE, and this song is one of those rarities in music that keeps a good dynamic range, just as the music used to be before the 2000's

The Greatest Comeback Of All Time.
OK so probably this is what Steven meant by saying "I'm working on two albums... one will be a continuation of Future Bites and the other one will be more guitar-oriented"?!

The way gavin described PT he referenced as more than a band but a movement. Sounds pretty bold to me. Don’t think so, this new album will the reach the charts , maybe even a number 1
I love it when PT goes heavy. This track also has psychedelic elements reminiscent of their earlier work
Discovered and subsequently got addicted to PT during their hiatus years, and I gotta say I really never thought this day would come again. I love SW's solo work but PT is just a combination that simply is unrivaled in the landscape of music and I'm SO EXCITED TO HEAR THIS ALBUM! I am crushed that Colin isn't a part of this new generation but thankful that Richard, Gavin, and Steven remain a solid trio. This new direction sounds like perfect parts of old PT mixed with a modern-prog edge, parts of this remind me of tool but a big part of this sounds like Karnivool, which has me so excited. This is going to be the slowest half year of my life waiting for this damn album but I am just almost brought to tears by its existence. What a good day!

its good you mention that. i think steven wilson should have a blend of porcupine tree with steven wilson band. my openion would be to merge some members from both bandd into a single band,,without placing aside all the great quality from the other past key players. my openion this band should have: Richard Barbieri, gavin harrison, steven wilson, Guthrie Govan and Nick Beggs . that would be the best fusion band possible. a band that would play porcupine tree and steven wilson songs and make news albums with both concepts. i know the bands are different but why not? that way steven wilson would have a rest instead of trying to make everyone happy from one band into another band.hope steven wilson would listen to me and try to do that.imagine listening the best tracks from both bands?

All the shit we've been through.
Some good news at last.
almost forgot to listen to this today
Steven's voice with Gavin's drums! And the whole musical landscape, so recognizable. How long a have been waiting for it!
WHAT ON EARTH DID WE DO TO DESERVE SUCH A CLEAR BLESSING FROM THE HEAVENS?!
We suffered the pandemic, we deserve this reunion!
12 long years, the wait is finally over! My Favourite band of all time has arisen from the mire that is Covid 19. And that is the only good news to come out of the pandemic! If King Crimson was busy touring the greatest hits collection still, Porcupine Tree wouldn't have been able to get together and make music. So thanks Covid for getting in the way of Mr Fripp & Co. WELCOME BACK PORCUPINE TREE... I have MISSED YOU 😢 I hope you Tour Australia 🇦🇺 next year or in 2023... Harridan is a wonderful song by the way! It could have been on the album (DEADWING 2005) Thank you Steven, Gavin and Richard... I will shut up now! 😂👍
When this one came out I sat and listened to it in a loop for 3 hours in a row, eventually falling asleep in the char.
