the best X-T30 review!
Your kind words are appreciated, thanks.
You are amazing. This video should be shipped with the camera.
title: 30 mins of all the things what your camera can do :)
Why bother when it's available on CZcams? But, that is a good suggestion for a title.
I agree. The detailed information and clips that Maarten put into these videos really make him standout from other reviewers.
@@MrParadoxia1 Thanks, it's always a pleasure to read the kind words of my viewers. Appreciated.
@@MaartenHeilbron Indeed no need for the video to be shipped just a sentence "subscribe to @Maarten Heilbron channel, and you'll know why :)"
this was the best review of a camera I have seen yet. instant subscribe
Thanks, it was nice to read your kind words - and to welcome you as a subscriber.

you make amazing videos ,anyone can see how much you work on 1 video , you got a big like from me !
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.
Thank you once again for a great review. You covered everything about this camera, (as far as I know!). The decision between T30 and T3 just got harder!!! Thanks again,
Yes, that's a tough decision, at least it's not based on quality and functionality. However, if you're a video shooter - the 10 minute time limit and other factors would push me to the X-T3.
Great review. Thank you for awesome work and sharing your knowledge!
Always a pleasure to read my viewer's kind words - thanks very much.
Thanks for putting in the effort to put contents, Martin.
Comments like your kind words make it worthwhile, thanks.
Once again, the best camera review on the internet. Fuji, Nikon et al could learn from your superb presentations Maarten - thanks!
How kind of you to take the time to comment and post such nice words, thanks very much.
Another great video, keep it up they are appreciated. Congrats on reaching 70k as well.

Wow...not only on the XT30 but a video that does justice to cover all the functionalities! Good stuff...
Thanks, always a pleasure to hear from a viewer who's enjoyed my videos.
What a fantastic review thank you!!! 🥰
This camera has so many features in such a small body.
I got it yesterday and I’m already in love with it.
I’ll be using it mostly for video, hopefully it doesn’t overheat all the time and won’t let me work. Next year I’m planning on getting the xt4 or the xt5 as my main camera, but I think this is a perfect camera to give the first steps into the professional video market.
Thanks again for your knowledge, you really know your game!!
Thank you for the kind words, so glad to hear you enjoyed the video and appreciate your new camera!
You made buy one ... just got mine yesterday.... learning time now. Will update soon .... thank you 🙏 once again Sir.
I'm sorry to learn I have the power to make anyone buy something. I hope you enjoy it.
Awesome review! I feel like Maarten is a combination of Mr. Rogers and Bob Ross, but with a ton of great knowledge about cameras. The videos are just super enjoyable to watch, even if one isn't interested in the camera in question. Clearly a lot of hard work and passion goes into these - great stuff!
Thanks, it was a pleasure to read your kind words, which are gratefully appreciated.

Thank you, I bought one for my son as a Christmas present since he is majoring in Media Arts at UNT.
Very cool! I hope he enjoys it.
WOW just came across your review after trawling thro many others not giving anything like the detail you do. I am thinking of changing from Nikon D5500 to this one, well this has convinced me.Will be getting one when the current health issues subside. Many thanks for this review you have a natural aptitude for reviews.Just searched for my old fuji finepix f30 6.3 mega pixels which was last used 2012 turned it on and whoosh came to life with two thirds battery life (fuji quality).
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for commenting, it's always nice to know my videos are helpful and appreciated.
Excellent review! actually much more than a review! just like a full lecture on this camera needed by an amateur to an expert photographer who's gonna get to the Fujifilm system. It's so very informative that I need to watch it again and again while going through all my settings on the camera. Thanks a lot! :)
It's always a pleasure to read kind words from a photographer who's been helped by my videos. Thanks for commenting.
Excellent review, was contemplating to sell my Fuji X100S and to get the X-T30 and your review helped me to make the decision to make the change.

My head is going to explode with all this info. But I love it and thank you. I'm planning to buy this camera next week and now even more excited.
I hope your insurance plan covers explosions! Thanks for the kind words, appreciated.
Thank you for this video. It makes me want to go play with my X-T30
Great review and I can see the benefits of both cameras
Yes, both! Thanks for the kind words.
I know that I mentioned in the past that I’m very happy with my X-T2, but if Maarten uploads a video, I’m watching it. Great work.
Thanks for watching, and your kind words. There would only be a few specific reasons to upgrade from the X-T2.
Love your review! Taking a closer look at the xt30 to replace my d7100!! Thank you!!
Glad it was helpful! Always nice to read kind words from my viewers.

excellent review as always Maarten - thank you.
It really does make you wonder where Fuji can go next at this price point though. Only good for us users I guess :-)
Thanks for the kind words - yes, things just keep getting better for photographers.
Thank you for this usefull video maarten!
Thank you, it's always nice to know that I've provided useful content.
excellent review, just ordered one
I appreciate your kind words, glad to hear I provided useful information.
My current shortlist is the XT3, XT30, Canon R, Sony A7III etc. Awesome level of detail here. Many thanks!
Good list. Thanks for your kind words, appreciated.
Really in depth thank you!
Thanks, I do my best to be detailed, and thanks for the kind words.
I’m deciding which mirrorless to buy and the XT30 seems to be coming out on top.
I’m watching many reviews of this - and other - cameras but one thing is decided; this is without doubt the best camera review I’ve seen.👍🏻
How kind of you to post such a pleasant comment. Thanks!!!
2:52 oooh super edgy photo! haha. I really appreciate your thorough content. It seems that the internet has been unexpectedly quiet about the X-T30 since its release. As a new owner myself, I was feeling a little lonely! Thanks for your hard work
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words and am glad to hear you enjoyed the video.
First time I’ve seen someone show how to manage face selection. The X-T30 may unseat my X-E3 as my X-T2 backup/grab and go camera. Thank you. Excellent review.
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thank you.
Great review. Thanks.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Your kind words are gratefully appreciated.
As always, a thorough and informative review. You are such a nice guy to respond to all of the comments. Most people don't do that. Is there a recommendation you could make regarding a quality 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter for the microphone port? Thanks so much!

As ever, superb review! Whithout question. Always clearly Professionaly scripted and delivered. Thank you for all your hard work and excellent attention to detain. Hugely appreciated Maarten.
As always, a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks for commenting.
Very very helpful, I’ve always had canon cameras but I am going to buy this little Fuji. Amazing reviews
Glad it was helpful! So nice to hear from my kind viewers.
Great review!
Thank you for your kind words.
Great video mate. I absolutely agree Fujifilm needs to step up their game on recording time (and battery time at the same time). I’m using GH5 mostly because it’s been the only camera that can record continuously for as long as I need. 4K HEVC 10-bit 3 hour shoot? No problem. I hope Fujifilm will do it too.
Yes, maybe not on the X-T30, but I do expect they will follow.
Another outstanding review and guide by Maarten who is the pre-eminent expert in this field, not just on CZcams but the entire internet. Thank you for such a brilliant review. One thing I don't quite understand is the current concern by many about video clip longevity. I don't recall seeing a single YT video, or feature film, past or present, that has a single clip or scene on one camera that is more than a couple of minutes long, and even that is unusual. With such sophisticated editing software nowadays, I cannot see that ten minutes at 4k or any other mode is a problem, and I would rather this prevented heat build up than possibly over-heating the sensor. The average CZcams clip is barely more than a few seconds before cutting to another scene!
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words. I assume you don't shoot much video.
First, it's not always about a single take/clip - although mine do get kind of long - czcams.com/video/kCG0QBRFEpE/video.html
It's about continuous recording, which if you've set up the camera and are doing a bunch of takes, it would be nice not to have to start and stop continuously. it's also about recording performances - juggling a concert recording is complicated, trying to get the right break between sections/songs to record an entire set.
But the real problem is that it's arbitrary and unnecessary.
Great review. Nice to see another street photographer in TO. :)
Thanks for the kind words. Say hello if you see me out shooting.
Thanks. Maarten. I learned a number of things that I didn't know before. Also, I love your auto ISO settings. One other comment, you went so fast that in certain places on the video that it was hard to follow. That said, my experience of using the camera is dramatically improved since watching your video. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the kind words, always nice to know I've provided useful information. Would you mind letting me know which bit went too fast? CZcams does provide both subtitles and a tool to play at a slower speed if that helps.
@@MaartenHeilbron I'll watch again at slower speed and let you know what bit went too fast.
Thank you, while my goal is to not waste the viewer's time, I would like to know if I'm over-doing it.
@@MaartenHeilbron I re-watched the video with sub-titles and the second time was the charm. I'm much more comfortable with the T30 and understand even more. Here are a few of the areas that left me with questions and comments.
1. Can you do a video on how you personally set up your custom settings?
2. Do you think that a future update from Fuji will make the touchpad swipes more reliable? Do you use them?
3. How exactly is DOF Preview used? Couldn't figure it out.
4. Do you recommend RAW compressed or uncompressed? Do the additional pixels in the uncompressed files make a difference and how?
5. I have been using your Auto ISO settings. When using the Auto 1 for sunny shots, the camera seems to shoot at around 300 ISO. Is there benefit to just use 160 on sunny days?
I'm sure I have more but that's enough to bother you with. Thanks so much. I made a quantum leap in tuning this camera to my needs after watching your video twice.
1) That is on my to-do list, but the X-T20 is about the same ... czcams.com/video/WknLF_pCrbI/video.html
2) I'm not sure if it's a hardware or software thing - yes, I do for ISO and film sim. They not 100% but enough to be usable.
3) By default, the aperture is wide open to compose/focus. To see a preview, assign it to a button, then press it to have the aperture closed to the selected setting. This shows the actual depth of field at the aperture.
4) Either is fine, I'm sure you'll find people happy to argue the find details, but I'm not fussed about those issues. On the other hand, my mantra is go big - so I generally use uncompressed.
5) There might be some. I get it to use 160, so not sure ... what's your DR setting?
Hope this helps,
Maarten
Thank you. Another really helpful video. I bought the camera and really like it. I'm slowly teaching my thumb not to hit the Q button on the thumb rest, but I feel strongly that Fuji got this one wrong. Losing four programmable buttons in favour of touchscreen swipes is also troublesome, as I'm no fan of touchscreens, but perhaps I just need to adapt. The rest is fantastic. I'm curious to get your views on how it compares with the Sony A6400 too...
Always nice to read kind words from my viewers, thanks. Yes, that feels like a miss to me too.
The comparison is next week's posts (if I can get them finished).
Great review. I really like this camera, especially its compact size. But I hear that the viewfinder is less than stellar.
There are better viewfinders, but I didn't have any issues. The issue I have is that the refresh rates slows quickly while you're not shooting.
Your work is a gift to all man kind. Well, mostly to photo shoppers. But still, great work.
hehe. Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you great work .
Always nice to read kind words from my viewers - thanks!
Great review as always! Just got this camera and am really happy with it. Just one thing.. I really wish Fujifilm would allow raw capture when using the auto mode!!!
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words. Agreed, it is an unnecessary limitation. On the other hand, man up - what would you lose by shooting in P with AutoISO?
Excellent idea! So I tried it and the camera uses the same settings... thanks Maarten! If you ever do get to Bisbee Arizona let me know and I will let you know my favorite photo spots!
Glad that worked out. And thanks so much for the invite - I don't think we'll get any further south than DC this summer, but I'll keep it in mind.
Best review of X-T30,congratulation.
A pleasure to read your kind words, appreciated.
The best review I´ve ever seen. It forced me to make multiple loud WOWs :-D and now I'm wondering, why I'm still using D750 when its so outdated related to features I just dreamed about
Thanks, it's always nice to know that my videos are useful and appreciated.
Your reviews are FANTASTIC! I love the amount of detail you include. Thank you so much! Any chance you can tell just your closest 70,000 friends which way you'd lean between the a6400 and the X-T30? I have an X-T30 that I'm considering returning (it has to be returned by 4/21) because I'm not 100% satisfied with it. I shoot all jpeg, mostly pictures of my family and pets. Probably 75% of the pics are indoors in less than perfect lighting (i.e. regular indoor lighting). I've found the Fuji's Face Detect can be spotty in indoor lighting, when the subject is wearing glasses or a hat (even outside), and when there is more than one face or obstructions. I'm also frustrated by the Q button. However, the color I'm getting when I have the focus correct is fantastic and the AWB is always spot on (even in tricky lighting conditions). I'm considering the a6400 because of how amazing the AF is on it (based on your review and others and playing around with it in Best Buy), but my previous camera was a Sony NEX 5R, and I was never happy with the White Balance or jpeg colors. I played with an a6000 and also didn't like the jpeg colors/AWB with that. Regarding lenses, I see pluses and minuses with both systems - I think Sony has one of the best all in one travel zooms in their 18-135, but Fuji has better APS-C primes in ranges I'd use (I love the 27mmF2.8; I can't find a good Sony equivalent). Thanks!
Good questions, and it's clearly a decision that lots of photographers are considering. Luckily, I'm just finishing my very detailed comparison (already over 45 minutes of material) that I hope to post early next week. Can you hold on?
Thanks for your video, so helpful.
The focus are exactly the same in terms of velocity and accuracy with the xt3?
Thanks!
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thanks. I don't have the tools to measure precisely, but I felt that they are.
Thank you sir! Good one.
Thanks for your kind words, appreciated.
First off, love your reviews and content, always fantastic!!! :) Second, researching for my first camera, only used my smartphone. I was looking at a Sony a6400 vs Canon m50 vs Fuji xt30. I'm more concerned about stills for now, as video I'll start learning once I know still photography more. I know each brand has advantages over the other, but which would you recommend as a first-time beginners camera just coming from a smartphone, that would allow me to learn how to take photos the best? I would primarily shoot jpegs for now as I don't know how to edit/process images yet, but I'm sure that will come later on.
All three are good choices, as for making a decision between the X-T30 and A6400, you should watch my comparison of the two. czcams.com/video/QUUZHxEPFuw/video.html
Love the detailed review! What software do you use for processing Fuji RAWs?
I use Lightroom Classic, the creative cloud version, as I'm constantly needing to update it with the latest version for support for the latest cameras.
got it and love it!!!
Thanks for sharing!
This is the best review. Wow.
Thank you, your kind words are appreciated.
Should I, or shouldn't I make the decision and purchase this camera? Your excellent video suggests that I should but strangely I am somewhat wedded to my X-T10 and X-T2. My purchases have concentrated on additional glass and only last week I picked up my Fujinon XF 50-140mm lens. After the shock of that expenditure I will pause for a while and then revisit the idea of the X-T30, but thank you for this thoughtful and highly informative video.
Always nice to know I've provided useful information that helps with your decision, thanks for commenting.
Thank sir you're a real gentleman. My xt 30 is on the way to my home. I am a bit overwhelmed by all the features it has... Coming from a rebel xsi 450d 😂 I really like you to do a tips and tricks video for the xt30 both video and stills. When you have time if you feel like doing it I am already subscribed and with the bell on. Thank you! 🎩
It was a pleasure to read your kind words, thank you. I think I covered all the interesting details in the review - what kinds of tips and tricks are you looking for.
When you said filming w acros using X frames per second... For the cinematic effect.. those kinds os gems 😃
@@088Noir Understood, thanks. Although I often do a best video settings post, but didn't have enough time to do it for the X-T30.
I’m really leaning towards upgrading my XT20 to the XT30 just for the eye AF in continuous mode. As I take pictures of my kids mainly I think it will be invaluable.
That's a solid rationale.
Awesome video for an awesome camera...
Thank you very much.
Thank you so much👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😊
Always nice to know my videos are appreciated, thanks.
Thank you so much for this fantastic review! Just one question: Does the recording limit in video mode also affect the use of the X-T30 for streaming oder video conferencing? Or can I record to a external device without time limit? Thank you!
Yes, you can output to an external device without limit, as long as power is available.
Thank you for such a thorough review. The xt30 is an ideal size for me and has all the video specs I desire. I can work well within the ten minute limit, but I’m afraid of becoming frustrated with the overheating factor. If I’m recording a lot of video back to back, I’m thinking the xt3 might be more appropriate. Do you have any thoughts on this?
I agree, the X-T3 would be more appropriate.
There's actually a grip add-on that you can put on the xt30 to make it feel more like the xt3
That's a good solution, but.
it really is a superb review.
that's very kind, thanks
Amazing review. please also review the Ricoh Gr 3
I wish I could, however, Ricoh has been extraordinarily uncooperative in arranging a loan.
@@MaartenHeilbronThanks a lot for your prompt reply. That is really unfortunate, considering the lack of in-depth review available for the gr 3. Hope they realise it soon and offers you one to review. Anyhow..keep up the amazing work
I wish they would. They do intermittently reply to my emails, and occasionally promise to send a review loan agreement, but in spite of my best efforts, it's never proceeded past that point.
Excellent review!! I have a question regarding the evf when using with glasses. I have read few other reviews that its evf is not very good when wearing glasses. What's your view on this?? I hope you reply. 🙂
Thank you for your kind words. To be honest, I usually slide my glasses up, and adjust the diopter to suit my prescription. When shooting with glasses, particularly on a viewfinder that provides a larger image may limit the amount of the screen that you see. This is not specific to this camera, or to Fujifilm EVFs. I recommend that you visit your local dealer to try it out.

Really enjoy your very informative, common sense rich and technically thorough reviews. Am thinking about this one , but an X100F must come first for me. Just subscribed though !
Thanks I appreciate the kind words, and your subscription.
the Q button location is why im sticking to the xt20 ... while testing the XT30, i kept pressing Q accidentally too, joystick feels a tad low for thumb too
Agreed, I just keep activating it accidentally and I can't seem to unlearn this behaviour.
Great video! Would you recommend it over the X-T20 for an enthusiast who shoots mostly stills (street, portraits, travel)? Prices have gone down on the X-T20 and I'm not sure the X-T30 is worth the extra $$ for the same/slightly better image quality...
You probably should not make the decision based on image quality, rather about other features like focus and video.
