Turning Trash Into Treasure: DIY Space Rover Build!

- I love fun DIY projects where you can turn trash into treasure! I had this Tic Tac container that was just trash, so I thought why not make a Space Rover out of it. I used the Tic Tac container, drink lids, Gundam bits, Transformers parts, model kit bit as well as a Final Faction piece to make this cool Space Rover.
This is just a fun DIY video of how I think through making something from scratch.

The best part is if some horrible alien plucks the pilot out of the rover and eats him… he’ll be minty fresh! These are my favorite kinds of your builds. (Though I do say that about ALL your builds.)

I really love your ideas of organically creating stuff from found containers and bits from broken toys. This inspires me to try making something from bigger containers such as a laundry detergent bottle for a 1/6 figure vehicle.

The fact that the tic tac logo fits so perfectly is just awesome and adorable!!! I can so imagine in-world the vehicle having become known as “the tic tac” and over time adopting it, like Jeep!

The model looks great Dave! I know what it is like to have a model challenge you but you did a fantastic job on it. I have to say I like the 6 wheels but even with 4 wheels it is neat looking. The base with the metallic surface was very unique and something I never thought of. Thanks for sharing this.

Eventually we're going to find out that the designer of the big Tic-tac bottle is a die had Moebius and Spanish sci-fi comic fan. and THAT's why that one container is so easy to love.
Also, great model - even if the Tic Tac logo left plain on the back gave me a giggle. One thing you might not have noticed about your build - your dude is either a miner or security working for a mine. That diorama base you built looks for all the world like black sand and hematite. In other words, the landscape is so rich in high quality iron ore that you can make steel be cussing for long enough. Wherever this turns out to be, someone is working hard and making someone else rich.

i love it, i used to do stuff like that at work, then people started throwing it out and demanding i do better. little did they know, it was an earth day art piece, that they threw out. i hate the people i work with, for not realizing how lazy it is, to junk a found art piece and call it trash.

Love it. I'm starting to get into building some mini dioramas and would love more ideas for DIY terrains/bases. You used light weight spackle? GENIUS! What else can I do to build bases without breaking the bank. (I also got that bag of sand from Hobby Lobby for $.69!
Ever think about just make a mini series of vids on making DIY bases? I'd love to see your process and creativity. Keep up the great work Doc!

A good tho to look at to get some inspiration is Warhammer miniature builders, they do some amazing base work!

Love the build as always, you did a great job. What is that silver paint you used for the ground, it really makes it pop.
It was a Vallejo silver like used on Warhammer miniatures.
It came out great! I could definitely see that as a moon rover on space 1999 or ufo both 70’s sci-fi shows, if you didn’t know them.

Yup, that’s it. I don’t think they even make them anymore. Bet he’s a great little figure for small builds.
The dude ruined it by adding the sand. The original red theme worked better than the black. How he thought that bagged sand had any red tones is beyond me, it was clearly brown/black.
Yup you’re 💯 correct. It even said brown on the bag… just part of the journey, you gotta try some stuff, not everyone will like it and that’s ok.
