    She's also made many documentaries, including her latest one for the ABC, Miriam Margolyes Almost Australian.

    I was surprised at all of the questions about Miriam Margolyes sexuality and wondered if that was meant to be the focus of the interview until Miriam asked "why all the questions?" I appreciate how the interviewer did not get offended by the question but switched topics and I also appreciate the fact that Miriam Margolyes does not want to be defined by her sexuality because she's right, she's just a person. However, I can also understand the reason for all the questions because Miriam is so outspoken and she came out at a time when it was not as acceptable to be gay as it is today so of course it would be interesting to get her take on things. Great interview.

      ....personally I wish more women were talking about Menopause, because I'm 46, and think it might be starting - and realize now I really know NOTHING about it, other than hot flashes.
      2 weeks ago I could barely walk because everything was spinning, I was dizzy and nauseous (combination of car sick and hung-over) Come to find out that's a totally normal symptom of Menopause.

      @aartadventure Před 3 lety +4

      @@adorable3817 Historically doctors were men and cared little about health issues that were unique to women. Plus, the historic societal attitude to menopause was to silently endure, with the occasional joke about hot flushes or emotional outbursts. Things are starting to change but you need to actively search out books from your local library, find a good doctor (I'd probably suggest an older female doctor if possible), and maybe also check out some online blogs. It could also be helpful to check out social media groups like facebook pages on menopause, but please don't take any health or medical advice from those places as gospel. In summary, we live in a golden age of information - educate yourself about menopause!

For this reason, although Miriam herself may not be aware of it, she is an international treasure, the gift she brings is the talent of scuppering people's small self-consepts, by sharing her own comparitvely immense self determination.

      Really? I thought she was terrible. She was like paparazzi digging inappropriately into an award winning actress' sexual life. It wasn't done in conversation or with a build up to it. It might just be the dropping standards of journalism or societal standards of what is polite. And I think I'm right because she goes on and basically asks her if she's upfront because she's old! I mean wtf...Jesus Christ, then she asks her if she wants to live with jer partner because she might die. This young lady really needs to work on her social skills, boundaries and people skills.

    "....lesbians are all different; you can't lump an entire group of people. That's like saying all people with brown hair like tomatoes."
    Honestly, I'm so desperately glad she said that. I am so flipping tired of LGBT issues in the media continuing to "other" us and then act like their doing something good because this type of "othering" puts is up on a damned pedestal. What on earth is so wrong with the notion that we are just people? Other than people who have extremely grandiose personalities, who would want to be treated differently or seen differently from any other human being for any reason. No matter how much of a "positive" light someone presents these feelings towards a person or persons doesn't change how immensely dehumanizing it is to define a person or persons by such a superfluous detail about them.
    To be clear, I am not upset with people asking questions about being LGBT (or other misunderstood groups - I encounter similar attitudes in regards to me being disabled). I am just so desperately glad when it is highlighted that we are literally just people. All most LGBT people want is to just be seen for what we are: people.

    I am from USA and I have been binge watching 'Call The Midwife' Miriam's character was by far my favorite throughout the series. The acting was pure and real. Like she felt her character in her very bones. ahhhh Something in her eyes was absolutely beautiful to me, that I just had to look her up. I came across this interview and wow, she is just so freakin' awesome and beautiful and her retorts are spot on. I've just discovered her and I adore her. My favorite part of this interview was when she asked "Are you a lesbian?" That was so great. Like enough with her sexuality weirdo.
    Miriam, if you read this...Im a brand new fan and you are one hell of a woman to make all women proud.
