  • This old cabover camper has been sitting on my property since I bought it. I decided to scrap it and see how much money I would get. It was disgusting and filthy but I got it done!

    I'm a new subscriber and I've been catching up on your older videos. I wish I knew about your channel when you were tearing this trailer down. As someone who has restored a couple of vintage trailers, I can tell you that there were a bunch of fixtures on it that you could have sold also. There are lots of folks out there that are really into restoring those old trailers and they're always looking for original vintage parts such as light lenses, windows, vents, sinks, wheels, interior fixtures etc. You can make decent money off of those random little parts. Unfortunately I'm a day late and a dollar short and not much help to you now. In any case... I'm glad I found your channel. I'm really enjoying seeing how you've worked up to where you are so far. You have a beautiful family and your drive to get things done and create a life for all of you is very nice to see. I'm looking forward to catching up to where you are now with things. - All the best~ Theresa

    There may have been some labor in getting rid of the camper, but it had to go. Taking out all of the trees and brush takes time as well, and there is little gained from that, except to clean up the property so that you can move forward with having a nice homestead.

    Thank you for your honesty and work put in to taking apart trailer...I enjoyed the video.....we have a 31 foot camper that is a leaky dump. ..and I have to dismantle it cause I'm not gonna give it away. Our Junkyards and places won't take them...I figured it will be fun to demolish and sell the stuff that's good and we will have an awesome utility trailer one day!

    I'm watching all of your videos again. You will probably never see this but here goes. Right at the end there, you got me laughing and it felt real good. I needed that. Like I said, again. Thanks for a bunch of great videos. Worth watching again.

    How was it not cost effective
    to break the camper down
    when you said the junkyard
    would not have taken it
    in any other fashion?

    You could have sold the trailer for $100.00 on craigslist.. People around here use them for goats or pigs by putting a 4X8 piece of plywood and a cage on it. Trim the frame of anything that is sticking out past the floor and add a TSC set of fenders.. If you will come every time, the scrapper will keep anything farm related.. They get wood stoves from time to time, too.

      The previous owner tried to sell it before the roof caved in and could not sell it. I wanted it off the property. it was too far gone

    Unfortunately, there's not much scrap value in any metals today. Copper, aluminum and brass are your best bets for scrapping. Forget ferrous metals. Not worth the time.

    I have the exact same problem right now
    My cousin lived in one of those
    and its still on the property
    $1500 to remove...
    So,
    It has aluminum shell/trim/window cases/door
    etc
    Johnny Cash style
    One piece at a time.

    I can't believe you junked that camper, it's ten times better than the one I am living in !!! The one I live in use to belong to Bill and Hillary Clinton. They lived in it while Bill was governor of Arkansas. Bill told me they would still be living in it, but Hillary keeps bumping her head on the ceiling when she does her pole dancing. That Hillary is a mess, she is always banging her head on something.

    The copper would bring more cleaned aka no plastic coating as well as window frames no glass no metal screws holding it together but all in all not bad $25 and you got that thing off your land

    • @liveitlikeitloveall2746
      @liveitlikeitloveall2746 Před 5 lety

      Yep, he could of spent a couple more hours stripping the wire and cleaning the aluminum frames in the hot Arizona sun to make roughly 3 more dollars, tops. I mean considering this video was from 3 plus years ago, during 2015/16 the prices/market was better than then they are today, especially aluminum.
      Scraping isn’t worth the time, literally. The only two common scrap metals worth while is copper and brass. (Not counting CC) To be honest, idk if those are even worth the time. I mean I guess if you are a electrician or plumber, well then it’s a different story.
      I use to do a little scraping to make extra money. But the new tariffs, regarding Trump and China have sent prices to crash..

  • @BelindaTN
    @BelindaTN Před 8 lety +1

    But if you had not tore it apart, what else could you do with it? the scrap yard was not going to take it. Maybe blow it up or set it on fire?

    Hope the mice don't move into the new RV. Yikes!

    • @patbootie9552
      @patbootie9552 Před 8 lety

      That happened to a you tuber that had no dogs or cats outside. They were in the new camper as the old one was being destroyed. He literally took out the whole inside and mouse proofed everywhere with you would think overkill measures, but them buggers still found a couple plaxes he had to keep at to keep them out. Another pest was the ants, even harder to keep out. At least Red Poppy hasn't any feed for livestock arounf or piles of wood they aren't removing in timely fashion that the mice ,ight grow in. One youtuber had 2 families of them mov into their raised beds garswn to deliver but moved out quick after.

  • @jazminqua77

    I so want to buy two acres and homestead. Where can one have a trailer on property like this?

    • @patbootie9552
      @patbootie9552 Před 8 lety

      We have 3 acres and can put a trailer (not a camper for yr round living tho) in upstate NY. Theres much cheaper places to buy land that is in the warmer states and allows it. put your ? into the youtube search and see if they have any videos up covering this and google the question. There are even some states that will just give you the land right now -- just got to live there, and that would be internet work or retired.

    • @jazminqua77
      @jazminqua77 Před 8 lety

      +Pat Bootie Thank you for your response. Do you mean like a single wide trailer or similar?

    • @patbootie9552

    • @RedPoppyRanch
      @RedPoppyRanch  Před 7 lety

      not enough. It was a waste of time except for the fact that I wanted to get it off my property. I don't remember the price per pound but it was not enough.

  • @dalesworld1308
    @dalesworld1308 Před 5 lety

    You can't weigh this sort of thing as how much it would pay you back per hour. You had an eyesore that had to go and that's pretty much the end of it. You handled it the only way that made sense. I would have kept the trailer portion and sold that though. Someone is always fixing those up.

  • @diversifiedacreshomestead102
