This is the story that I was looking for. I heard it a slightly different way. I am suprised that nobody else has posted about this in 9 whole years.
My mother was Portuguese and the Moors were there for 400 years. She would tell us this story when we were little, but it was about the Jesuits. Portugal kicked them out after the great earthquake and tsunami of 1755 that destroyed Lisbon and killed many thousands. After this (the story goes) the Jesuits were going round tormenting the already broken populace that this had been their punishment from God. The Portuguese leader, Count Pombal, had had enough and expelled them all. But he had one last surprise for them: the sinking of their ships once out at sea. So now that you are offering this version of the story, I wonder what was really going on?! I believe the slave trade was actually a cover for the removal of the Moors from Europe and that is why they then had a 'reset' which they called the Renaissance (rebirth) to make Europe white!

There have been so many resets under the guise of natural calamities, pandemics, ravaging fires, new technologies, medical breakthroughs, etc., etc. Check out Michelle Gibson on CZcams & Auto-Didactic, Robert Sepehr, Atlantean Garden, as well. They do tremendous work uncovering incredible amounts of hidden information especially the 'Moors'. I don't know if you are aware that the British Royal Family is related to the Prophet Mohammed! Not only that, they have African ancestors too (I believe they were Moors). I don't know if in a previous comment I said that I believe that the Renaissance was a way to 'whitewash' Europe from everything Moorish (by going so far as to make African/Arab kings & princes of Europe white!!!

And what's more: the Spanish nowadays seem to be completely oblivious to this. They don't even celebrate April 1st, they celebrate the Dia de los Santos Inocentes on December 28. They refer to it as a French or Italian custom, definitelyforeign of origin. If they knew. .... Well, at least they don't celebrate it!

What about the pagan roots of april fools day? As well as the crimes the Arabian empire committed on Europeans hundreds of years before the 15th century. Muslims and Christians always fought and treated each other horribly. Though there were times they were wonderful to one another. Times muslims and Christians lived with one another peacefully. Though I hope I don't provoke any violence against anyone. Its hard for me to believe in any religion because there is no protection by god given to anyone of any faith from evil it seems.
